New Hosted Game! "Comrade or Czar" by Albnoob

Aw man! No Steam? Why does the shorter stories always have to take a backseat?

I think it has something to do with the costs this creates for the company?

They can’t put all their stories on Steam because of limitations Steam puts on them, and also Steam readers apparently rip apart the short ones in reviews

That’s not just steam. Happens on all platforms, but yes it apparently has to do with only being able to put up a certain number on steam so of course they’re going to prioritise the ones they think will sell better.

And if I download from website can I only read it on computer or can I somehow download it to mobile?

I imagine it ultimately comes down to which stories the team believes will appeal and sell best on Steam.

I thought android users can download apps from different sources, they are not as preservative as f***ing apple. I couldn’t find a link for you because all links directs me to AppStore (thanks apple) but here you can play the game

I finally got to play this game and it is totally abomination. Seriously we have a Divided We Fall that is exactly the same thing. This incompetent writer couldn´t even pick that one up for inspiration. Not to mention that you have this amazing concept where you can bring both czarist and communist perspective but he couldn´t even be bothered to learn anything about the history and causes of October Revolution. It is laughably pathetic and if I could give it anything worse than 0/10 then I would do it. Now I´ll have to go play Hearts of Iron just to calm myself down.

We’ll mark that as a “Somewhat Satisfied” on the survey, then.

I’m with @anime_lover on this one. The Russian Civil War’s a great setting for a game, but the execution here really didn’t do it justice.

You’ll spend most of your time fighting battles, which are easy and repetitive, consisting of spamming the same options over and over. They also get very silly very quickly, as you’ll find yourself using nuclear weapons (which didn’t even exist at the time) and leading armies of mutants. (This really isn’t as interesting as it might sound, as the consequences aren’t explored in any way beyond inflicting damage on the enemy army.)

The few scenes outside combat are massively underdeveloped and don’t make much sense. For example, you’ll go from winning battles to being told that one enemy after another has somehow managed to infiltrate your capital with a massive army during your victory celebrations. (You aren’t given any way to avoid being infiltrated… as improbable as it might sound.) They’re also generally written with one correct way to play, with any “wrong” choice resulting in instant death and a game over… which really doesn’t give you the opportunity to develop a personality for your MC.

You don’t have the chance to develop meaningful interactions or relationships with any other characters.

The game could also have done with some serious proof-reading. At present, some of the choices are so badly worded that it was impossible to work out what they meant before clicking on them.

To be honest, I’m a bit surprised that Choice of Games agreed to publish this in its current form. If it had been my first experience with their brand then I probably wouldn’t have bothered buying any of their other games.

The first russian ruler to adopt “tsar” title was Ivan IV (Rurik dynasty) in 1547, not Mikhail Romanov in 1613… I couldn’t even get through demo, the quality and amount of research put into the game is just abysmal.

It’s a HostedGame. those aren’t counterchecked by CoG (unless they are breaking laws and/or genuinely endangering people). HG has a number of stinkers in its roster, but also some of the best games

That’s interesting. Some of my favourite releases have been Hosted Games, but I agree that they’ve always been more a bit more varied in quality than CoGs.

Still, it seems a bit strange that Choice of Games don’t take quality into consideration when deciding whether to publish a Hosted Game. After all, Hosted Games are advertised to the same customer base as their official “Choice of…” releases. You’d think they’d want to protect their brand. After all, we all know that the same compny’s selling both gamelines, and putting out bad products is very quickly going to erode customer goodwill.

The thing is, a quality check costs money IIRC, dunno how much per game and I might be wrong.

So , with HGs it’s always up to the author to do quality control etc. Did this one even have a WiP thread?
EDIT: checked, it did… but…

This is what happens when a HG WiP gets not much feedback…

Someone said this already but…
I found it “easy” to rise. And unlike some games, this game does not introduce war tools like what does tank do, machine gunners do etc. I didn’t have fun while playing. Sorry mate.

Yeah, you worded it very well. I was just so pissed about this game especially becuase I just love Divided We Fall. This is abysmal. I had a such a huge hopes from it and it failed miserably.

When you find out why this was delayed on Android, I’d be interested in hearing why, too.

You can try it on the page unless you are on mobile.

Whoa, mate. I agree that the game was extremely flawed, but there’s no need to make it personal.
