It was? I’ll look at that. I toned down a lot of the “required to select” stats in the edit. It’s moving towards options being unselectable only if they’re impossible (Eg, not enough magic reserves to pull it off) or things that are really opposed to their basic character (demons and goblins, for example, sometimes have a sadistic/gentle option that is barred to the other.)
The wendigo or the vampire, I guess? They used to be human. Otherwise, not really. Humans and monsters are different species, either monsters have monster children or humans transform fully into monsters. That may be changed after the game is released, when I’m working on the sixth monster. A couple of my ideas are human-ish, like the witch.
Yep, @faewkless got it right. Their heart doesn’t beat, but their magic emulates life. If they’ve fed recently they’re warm to the touch. They are not corpsified and gross though - when they became a vampire their body ceased to be human, so the normal scavengers and microbes that would decompose them aren’t interested.
I should’ve known that, haven’t replayed as a vampire in a while so I blame me. I also knew that vampires don’t appear corpsified and gross, I was being an asshat. That does make me wonder though…what other undead are out there? (Not that I actually expect you to flat out answer that.)
All of them. Except maybe Slenderman (is he undead?)
I was thinking about some American folklore, as in post-colonization, as in really recent legends. There are some fascinating monsters running around - I’m considering making Springheel Jack or the Apple Tree Man professors in the sequel.
I’m pretty sure Slenderman is Slenderman, he defies classification.
That would be really interesting.
I’m not sure if it’d be too much work, or if you’d even be interested in it, but some sort of codex like stat screen where you can read a brief mythological origin of the various monsters you encounter would be fascinating to me at least. Never even heard of Apple Tree Man and the only Springheel Jack I know of is the guy whose boots I used in Oblivion.
None of the monsters in this game can have children with humans or any of the others, with the possible exception of demons (there is some mystery surrounding where little demons come from.)
On a related note, @spacelesbian raised a good point: is there pressure to breed to keep up the population of your species? The answer is no. Werewolves have multiple births, goblin science assures high fertility and low death rates (except of old age), and the rest are effectively immortal (and have different ways of coming into being.) As I mentioned in my reply to her, monster populations are doing so well that not only is there no pressure to pair off and reproduce unless you want to, New Haven will probably have to start exporting werewolves soon.
On an unrelated note, I just found this:
The Wendigo, the Wendigo
I saw it just a friend ago
Last night it lurked in Canada
Tonight on your veranada!
— Ogden Nash
In regards to the whole, why are so many monsters located in one area, thing. I have a few very simple answers.
Possibility 1: Cause magic.
Possibility 2: If you look on your left you’ll see a gate directly to hell and all the monsters are foreign exchange students.
Possibility 3: This is where all the monsters from Max Gladstones C.o.G, Deathless, go to study. I mean how else are they all going to get into demon law school if they don’t even get to High school?
Does the vampire, wendigo, and demon need to breath (the whole point of breathing is for blood circulation the wendigo is an immortal flesh eater that eats cause curse, and the demon technically isn’t even a truly physical being)
Also I suspect that a majority of the monsters moved there because of
A monster hunter and monster treaty which explains the lack of stakes to the heart my vampire have been offered and there are probably multiple monster havens across the world.
well if your not happy with that there’s always the punishing alternative i could summon sparkle time vampire and werewolves who take there shirt off every 10 minutes for no reason other than to make your heart race… stop staring at me
i hate sparkle and bad acting
That has happened every time I’ve played it, and I’ve done at least 3 playthroughs each character.
I don’t know if it’s /supposed/ to happen, but that seems to be the norm
There was a beta, for past day 1, that you could of signed up for, it’s over now, and they only added day 1 to the public beta. The private beta is in a pm so you can’t access it if you don’t have the pm
That’s exactly it. It’s a bug where it doesn’t finish properly, so it crashes after the dream. Since that’s the end of the public demo, I’ve had bigger priorities.
@Sashira my fav so far is Demon, followed by Vampire~ Tied with Werewolf/Wendigo~ Goblin last, i just cant relate to character though ill still try bc im sure it offers new view of game
