Lux: City of Secrets - Book 3 of The Evertree Saga by Thom Baylay

IIRC, all you need to do is buy (and use) the antivenom, the marbles, and the climbing gear, and not go to the tavern.

I always go to the tavern and use the marbles to play with the kids. But where I never go in Dree is the temple.
You can also cause a lot of shit to go wrong in the camp at the end.

For your first three suggestions, you only need to choose one of them, based on which of the three paths you choose to take, right?

I thought you always had to go to the temple at the beginning, though?

I take all three, then investigate the screams and give the antivenom to the wounded soldier, give the marbles to the brownie for the game, and climb the cliff. Dunno if you need to do all three. According to Winter, you don’t.

I DO go to the temple.

No, I never go to the temple in Dree. Winter hates the temple, and our first stop is always the tavern and I’m able to get all relevant info there. I use the marbles to play with the kids outside, when you do that, they tell you about Himo Naiilo and even mention his name. Then I investigate the damage in the tavern and ask what happened and another question I forgot. Then we move on, ignore the screams (that person who needs antivenom and wastes our time).

At Hiimo’s hut, I investigate everything, but don’t use magic to see what happend.

When the road forks, I take the route through the swamp, but I always buy the insect repellent, totally ignore the swamp creature, and I buy that flora and fauna book. From there with the climbing gear to the camp, kill the gnome on the watch tower first with the knife (oh yeah I buy that too…) so there won’t be alarm, investigate the rest of the camp, confront Lady Anya and Himo, call Himo by his name, let Winter kill Himo, Winter teleports us back.

PS: I always buy the food rations for us and the ponies too, I have a hunch that makes us faster.

I’ve done some of the things that you’ve suggested @JBento and @Hayden_Winter in my playthroughs, but I’ve never ignored any of the buildings, so to speak, on my way to Imperion’s daughter. And I have to admit, when I’ve gotten to the camp, I’ve just gone with what seemed to give my character the clues needed to find out where Imperion’s duaghter is. Have you had the same approach as @Hayden_Winter when you’re in the camp, @JBento, or have you been less concerned with finding the best possible path there?

IIRC, in the camp I just sneak into the tent, get the clues, and bugger off. The only building I visit in the town is the temple, and then I investigate the screams.

Yeah, the only relevant thing in the camp seems to be the drawing that lets you know where Lady Anya is if you’ve gathered the other info elsewhere before. I’m not sure how much time it takes up to investigate the rest, but I do know not taking care of the gnome severely messed up our plans. It was nice, because Winter’s clothes got all messed up and exposed their chest, but not exactly helpful for the mission.

If you arrive in Dree with O, is the temple the default first place to go to vs. the tavern with Winter?

Yes, AFAICR, my characters have always started out, so to speak, in the temple when arriving there with O and it has seemed to me that my characters then had no choice but to try to “charm” the priest there before being allowed to do anything else.

Ah, ok! Yeah, that makes sense! I’ve sometimes ended up at the temple when I deliberately tried out other approaches and things didn’t work out well at the tavern, but, well, Winter stays outside and never sets foot in the temple, and the priest there hates me and only takes pity on me after going through all the options there, so by this point, that particular run seems to be basically lost, time-wise.

Or you can buy the Second Wind potion and do everything without trouble.

Bill. I name my steeds after famous exemplars, and Bill is the famousest and best of ponies, as any Samwise Gamgee will tell you.

I always name mine Gerald after an inside with a good freind of mine.

This comment made my day, and I agree that Bill is the best pony. So few people in my area actually know about LOTR, so whenever I see a reference now I get really happy.

But where’s the fun in that!

The scholar quests were my favorite too, but then I’m always drawn to magic-y stuff. I also liked the priest quest line. Besides those I’ve got a duelist, minstrel, druid/shaman, and investigator, but I think I’ll be changing that last one, as I agree with @Hayden_Winter that it was disappointing.

Oh yes, I forgot he was a brownie. For that I tend to make my mc a brownie too.

When my mc is with hayden, they become a thief after sordwin, starts worshipping kin. I tend to start my mc as a kind person who grows and shapes into a cold and cynical person. They are always in a constant state of confusion as they want to see the world like they did in evertree, but the appearence of winter doesnt make it easy for them and their feelings for them led my mc into a denial love-hate relation with winter. Winter is terribly interesting and I would love to see more of them. I want to know whether they can be genuine at love or is it just domination for them.

Kin’s the obvious choice.

So do I, but I’m scared love would turn them… boring. As tempting as the thought of being loved by them is, if it resulted in them holding back and / or becoming predictable or, worst case, another “normal” RO, it would destroy everything I enjoy about them.

If Hayden ever genuinely fell in love with me, I’d want them to become even more cruel towards me as a result (sprinkled with some unexpected sweetness every once in a blue moon to let the dichotomy drive you even madder than you already were).

Know what I’d totally love to do? Get drunk with them! I wonder if they can even get real drunk. I’d love to find out how they’d act if they were truly under the influence (which they’ve never been so far). The one major issue is, Hayden would probably drink anyone under the table, and by the time they were inebriated, my MC would be dead if he tried to keep up.
Winter’s been awfully sober so far in Lux. I mean, I can see why, with the circumstances being so different, but still… It would be so amazing to just hang out with them and drink. Poor pirate’s already forced to be on land the entire time. Their ass must’ve hurt so bad after that Dree mission. They’re not used to riding.

Has anyone actually ever played this series as a trans person (ingame)? Is it just a flavor choice at the very beginning when entering your gender and then never brought up again, or does it actually make a difference at some point?

I would not want that. I want winter to slowly realize they are becoming attached to mc but their sweet moments would be rare. Like I dont want them to be redeemed nor turned soft because of love. That would make me instantly regret his path.

I would want this. Hot and cold kind of path… their rare display of affection will be enough of a reward for my mc. I dont want them going all clingy and lovable. That would not be Hayden.

I felt as if Winter wanted the mc with them during the dree case. But maybe that was imperion testing us? I wish the old god case woukd have featured winter instead of O for people who were pursuing winter path. I would have loved more of their interactions with mc… i exhausted every options while on their path… (the gazillion number of times I replayed their path to get every dialogue)…
