Ah daaang, it would’ve been such a cool idea!!!
But I suppose that’s why the achievement is called “Sins of the Father”

I’ll have to remember to talk to the bartender if I do a replay - bartenders are always good sources of info - but there’s just so much to do in this game and so little time, I feel like I’m always rushing to try and fit in the next thing before the day’s over.
K does seem very, very well-informed. I assumed that they were doing side work as some kind of espionage agent - or maybe their escort work was cover for their espionage work - or that they’re actually a high-ranking member of one of the various underworld organizations. But mind reading works too (via a spell? an innate ability? some artifact they got hold of?). Is the next game supposed to be the last in the series? There won’t be much opportunity to really get to know the real K in that case.
You have to meet certain conditions, he doesn’t always say that. But don’t ask me which, I’m no Kyran expert.
Yeah, absolutely! Right now it’s very easy for me, because my priorities are 1. Hayden 2. Nothing. But the first playthrough was extremely overwhelming. Thom stated he wants you to feel this way, so I’d say mission more than accomplished.
I still discover new things all the time (for example the extra dialog option with Hayden in the torture chamber that references you having been tied to a table before) and I only really make microscopic changes each times. I could read the code, but where’s the fun in that.
Thom said the series isn’t done with Lux, so there’ll be hopefully more!
Like you won’t need luck with O!
Good! More time to finagle O, K and Gunther into something like actual relationships. Maybe. Probably. Good luck with Winter, though…
I can’t keep up with all this Winter talk. It’s making me have to reread the stories. Laundry can wait I suppose. Then there are my two kids… At one point I had a notebook of MCs and their choices.
Don’t neglect your two kids for Winter! One is enough!
This… has style! I love this.
To have a visual representation of them or to play with them, too? Because if it’s only the former, you could try artbreeder.com Many use it here to give an idea what their characters look like. It takes a bit to really get the hang of it, if you want to create images that don’t look generic, but it’s fun and surprisingly addictive.
Hmm, a notebook. I keep a folder with various saved games on my computer, and I can check basic facts in those save files, but another doc with additional notes isn’t a bad idea…
I have Baldur’s Gate 3 and was going to make my MCs on there but kids. I have so many ideas and they fly away when mom mode turns on. But it’ll happen one day.
To see them and play as an alternate universe. I keep wanting to try artbreeder though.
@Cheezabelle (and others) How old do you think Hayden is?
It’s impossible to tell, because they can look as young as they want, but for some reason they feel old to me. I’m not sure what it is (working on figuring it out); I thought maybe the callousness, but under the “right” circumstances even a very young person can become callous and cynical. If they were a vampire I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they were 300+.
In the book on races it’s stated changelings “rarely live to be older than one hundred”, so taking that into account I’ll just assume until we have more info that they’ve already the biggest part of their natural lifespan behind them. Which sucks, but feels correct to me.
And also - I know this sounds bizarre, because it’s something my mind totally made up on its own and is never even hinted at, let alone mentioned, in the game itself - their skin while in clay form looks old-ish in my imagination. A bit like actual, old clay that has started to dry out, with small creases and cracks. I “saw” them like that during the betrayal showdown in Sordwin and it’s stuck with me ever since.
Unrelated fun fact: If you meet them for the first time in Sordwin, they ask you to call them Hayden. If you meet them for the first time in Lux, they ask you to call them Captain.
Never make sense, you beautiful bastard.
TBH I’m stuck with the dilemma of playing the long game in my relationship to Daisy. But at the same time i want to see other people like Winter and that new girl Kyra.
Could we possibly romance Kyra while being in a relationship? I mean it’s not the first time we are given the option of being unfilial to our chosen RO, i know it’s a dick move but oh well.
I don’t know about Dandy / Daisy, but in my Lamuel playthrough I remember not being able to flirt with Kyran. In one of my seven billion Winter playthroughs I was able to flirt with them and see where things would go, but IIRC even then I was asked at one point if I was “tired of waiting for Hayden” (LOL), meaning I had to make a decision and commit.
Yes, I think Thom Bayley is really good at writing multidimensional characters with many layers and I really like that about the Evertree Saga. All the important characters, even L seem to have layers and/or secrets that may surprise you and they also have different “sides” in a way that make them feel more real too.
I knoooow!!! I actually made a post about the possible circumstances of their conception / relationship with their parents if you’re interested. Topic was if it was possible for them to have a “tragic backstory”: I'm Sorry, But I Think We Should See Other People - ROs You Hate - #201 by Hayden_Winter
Lux adds a bit more to the lore, things I hadn’t seen at that time, for example that Hayden is an unusual changeling and changelings aren’t as rare as the book on races and monstrology had me believe, but it’s still all so fascinating!!! I have so many questions about their abilities!
They get bored easily and they like a certain level of comfort. It’s said they’re greedy, and while it seems to be true, they must be already very rich at this point. Maybe they just want to see how far they can go and how high they can climb. But I don’t know. I have no idea what truly motivates them.
What’s interesting is… Usually, a character like this is described as not fearing death. It’s the typical cliché. But Hayden is very much all about saving their own ass and not playing hero or looking cool.
Btw, “Impy” is great, don’t let him hear that.
That would be awesome, but my biggest fear at this point has become Imperion trying to hurt Hayden to pressure MC or get back at MC for something. Right now, Winter is more important and valuable to Imperion than the MC, but I have a feeling this could change, seeing how we’re carrying a special gift obviously, and are the MC after all. There is no way Imperion doesn’t know what’s going on between us, maybe he’s even working together with Winter, by using Winter as a carrot on a stick to steer the MC. It’s all really a keg of dynamite.
Imperion is one of two possible threats for Hayden on the horizon.
The other one is Ruby, who is still out there and who must be even more pissed and out for revenge now. She really needs to die, before she comes up with another plan.
No one hurts my changeling.
I’m so happy you enjoyed it!!!
I put a lot of thought into!
The Gunther ‘route’ is definitely one you don’t see too often in games - there are plenty of LIs out there with past trauma, plenty with dead spouses/lovers/what-have-you, but this long, uncertain, strangers-to-friends-to-lovers (maybe? someday?) path is rare. Three games in and I don’t think Gunther has even shown any definite romantic interest in the PC. Ignoring all other options in order to keep after the oblivious half-orc takes remarkable patience and persistence. Hopefully there will be a reward at the end (my little brownie is keeping her fingers crossed! And wondering if she’s lost her mind! ).
I’m curious if individual changelings have any unique physical characteristics. What I mean is: Let’s say there was another changeling (Enra gave me that idea) who was perfectly familiar with Winter and their mannerisms and pretended to be them in their androgynous standard form, and I wasn’t allowed to talk to them, would there be any way for me to tell them apart at all, like by slightly different coolness of skin? Smell? … …Taste? (I like that one. )
I hope this will never happen. That’s pretty much my worst nightmare, aside from Winter getting hurt.
I reckon that you wouldn’t need to fret over Winter’s safety. Few, if any, things seems to harm them, lol.
My thought process behind this, is:
As the MC, I have obviously the strongest plot armor and this isn’t one of those stories with perma-death. Any physical harm done to me is a mere inconvenience, a status change that can ultimately be slept off. Unlike psychological threats and pain, physical ingame violence can’t get to me, so psychological pain is more powerful. It can hurt in real life and make you, for example, cry while reading. Of course, the psychological pain could be inflicted by Hayden themself again, but we already had that multiple times and it starts to become hard to top. It’s also what I start to expect as a reader.
Targeting Winter would be a safe way to evoke a strong emotional reaction, and something we haven’t had yet. Who else is there to use as a means of getting back at the MC or threatening them? In my case, a father whom I’ve never bonded with as a player, and as an MC have “conflicted feelings” about canonically. And a pony, I guess.
Winter would be the most obvious target.
And there’s two dangerous people out there who know exactly how much they mean to me: Imperion and Ruby. Winter sometimes being a bit too confident and nonchalant for their own good doesn’t help either.
I obviously don’t know Thom’s intentions, but I can’t help thinking about this in a “What would I do if I this was my story”-way. And I’d definitely go after Hayden at some point to get under MC’s skin (if Winter’s their RO).
