Lordirish presents 2nd Annual CScomp

ah, luckily for me it fitted into the idea i had planned.

Hey, @PORT3R, how do you do a word count that excludes the code tags and comments

Character names : check. Locations: check. Attributes: check. Cover illustration: check.

Text: er, not much yet.

@cottage14 I have no idea

@cottage14 @P0RT3R
Shameless plug: the upcoming desktop version of the IDE can do it :slight_smile:

Now game wise do I go for something really abstract, or really safe/tried and true?

@CJW Usually the abstract stuff stands out more. If it works that is. Not everyone understands or appreciates the abstract

I have the sudden urge to write! Aaaaand its gone…

So far about 1k words written. Draft I have pretty much finished in my head and some bullet points on paper. All in all I think it’ll be a nice little ditty by the time comes to turn it in. Really short, but hopefully I can manage to still keep it solid and true to my style of writing.

Is it just me or is writing like fuel. After an hour or two you just start writing terribly and your style goes to hell?

I am basicly like, hmm let me game first and then I will write, hmm I think I will write in tge evening and continue to game, hmm I think I will write tomorrow morning and that is the loop I am stuck in since the 1st of May

@Prototype

Same, although I’m lucky if I reach an hour of writing, let alone two. After a certain point I start nitpicking every little detail, second-guessing myself, googling words and phrases, and all my creative energy just drains away.

Still, if I can work up momentum then I’ll reliably produce some half-decent writing for thirty, forty minutes before I lose steam.

Glad to hear you already have 5000 words.

What I learned from last years game, most of the serious writing happens in the last week. It is inspiring to see so much underway already. This comp is going to be very hard to judge. :slight_smile:

First sequence done and all branches and stats working properly. Now the real fun begins.

is it against the rules to ask other forum members through PM to test the game and get their opinions?

@Sandstorm
You may have a small group of beta testers. They are not to talk about your game with anybody until the contest is over.

ah thank you!

Since everyone’s been reporting what they’ve done so far, I think I’ll do the same :slight_smile:
I’ve basically planned out what I want, and I’ve written 3k words so far… (I’m only working on my phone so my progress is pretty slow…)

Moving forward well. Can someone do my day job for the next two weeks so I can concentrate on this game?

Well I’m getting to the point where I have allot to do but not much time left to do it xD Might consider ripping part of it away for now and coming back if I have the time.

I have a plan for a game that would fit the theme here perfectly. The problem is, with Kepler and Blackraven, I don’t have time to write it yet. Also, I don’t think I could do it justice in just one month.

It also has a very long and controversial title: The Assassination of Mary, Mother of Jesus.

So, yesterday I decided to completely revamp the story so far and the draft along with it. The original idea was to have a single event cycling through different time periods with certain differences and experiments in storytelling and whatnot… But I realized yesterday while testing it that it didn’t work. At all. As an interactive fiction at least.

So, I went back to the drawing board, started over with some elements staying, but concentrating on a few events in a brief amount of time. Hopefully it will end up doing justice to the theme of the competition.

@andymwhy: now that’s a game concept I’d find irresistible (if as you say controversial). Hit pause on Kepler and Blackraven and use the contest to get it started–you can always perfect it later!
