Life of a Wizard

Ah! How much is this?

I’m curious: is there a magic you can use to rig your child’s sex, or is that line just thrown in there?

Also, I wonder if homosexual or out-species (dwarf/half-elf, for example) reproduction, including Royal Blood, should be possible with the right magic? It would be interesting to see that patched in…

On the subject, I have to wonder why it’s Evil for you to cheat on your own lover, but not to have sex with one of the royals (who are married)?

@Kitty: $1.99

@Wyrmspawn: Also, the dog helps you cheat in the summoning test, and gives a better bonus than Nature does.

I got royal blood and family business with a male character, if I’m understanding your question correctly Umrahel. So the king’s royal wizard was his sister.

It requires that your girlfriend isn’t part of your adventuring party. It’s a matter of what she doesn’t know won’t hurt you.

I just bought this and played through it. I finished my first playthrough a few minutes ago.

I have to say, this game pretty much epitomizes the “sweeping epic” school of storytelling, and frankly, it does its job really well. Playing through the whole game in one sitting is one helluva roller coaster ride, one which I never really wanted to end.

If there is one complaint, it’s that despite the story’s impressive length, it still seems too short. This probably has to do with the fact that the whole thing is broken up into so many short vignettes. It doesn’t help that the characters are also more like props than anything else. My personal opinion is that while Life of a Wizard is a fantastic ChoiceScript game, it would have been even better as the first in a series of three or four.

so, how do you get mutch necromancy early in the game, so that i can do the halflings tomb?

It’s not particularly difficult. If you select necromancy as your preferred school and make the sacrifice, and take at least one chance to use necro afterwards, you’ll be able to necro the tomb.

Be evil. Then, someone will approach you and offer you a place in the secret necromancy association. Then, they shall require a sacrifice from you. I would advise you to have an expendable friend around. Choose your parents or your fried, and you’d get a HUGE bonus for evil (+50) and a large bonus for necromancy, around 20-25.

You can get 20 nercomancery if your parents didn’t want you and if your parents reveled you where from a long line of nercomancers

If you don’t have anyone (parents killed in the attack on your village, and been otherwise a loner), then they’ll just pick some random student for you to ‘sacrifice’. It’s pretty funny :stuck_out_tongue:

To get perfect party, you have to have a golem warrior, a bully thief (race doesn’t matter) and an academy friend cleric (race doesn’t matter). That’s it- nothing else matters

Yes, redgrave, but halfling thief and dwarf cleric start off better though.

Also, if you want to have necromancy, go to the cematary as a kid, you have the option to exercise some necromancy as well.

Oh it’s funny, you can get offered necromancy tutelage even if you focus on another art, I guess if you’re evil enough, in which case they never ask for a sacrifice. Apparently sacrifices are only for specialist necromancers, people who just want to supplement their knowledge with necromancy aren’t required to make a sacrifice.

@stsword are dwarves better as clerics? I know halflings are better as thieves and dwarves/half-orcs are better as warriors, but I was just saying what you need to do for the achievement. The bully can also make a good warrior, though.

@stsword: To the best of my knowledge, practicing necromancy doesn’t relate to evil, it relates to whether or not you either were told about necromancy or got the amulet before going off to the university.

@Redgrave Nobody’s better or worse at being a cleric. Halflings make better thieves but worse fighters, dwarves and half-orcs are the reverse, and I think gnomes are just bad fighters.

Funny, because when I chose a dwarf friend from the magic academy his effective cleric level was 3, if you choose an elf girlfriend from academy instead she’s only a two. Unless the friend is just a better cleric than the academy girlfriend?

Necromancy has nothing to do with getting the amulet itself, you get a boost in necromancy if you get it only if your parents didn’t want you, otherwise you just get the amulet.

And if your evil score doesn’t determine whether the necromantic secret society approaches you what does? Because it’s not choosing to be a necromancer, I’ve been approached while specializing in something else.

I checked, it doesn’t seem to be important what race your magical academy friend is, he’s always better than the magical academy girlfriend, odd.

Perhaps it’s a rudimentary skill with necromancy that gets you put in the circle of necromancers.

@stsword several factors trigger it- getting the boost from your evil parents, telling the doorkeeper you want to learn necromancy, and several other things…

The magical academy girlfriend doesn’t seem to be an actual mage, oddly enough.

@stsword: As I said, there are three ways to get into the secret society.

#1: You show interest in necromancy at school.
#2: You are told by your parents that you have a family legacy of necromancy.
#3: You bring your parents’ amulet to school.

You know, it’s funny, I recently downloaded the pdf for Radiance d20, so I can’t help but picture if this game was modeled more on that game than DnD.

Taking up shadow magic, or fighting in power armor, or blending the shapeshifting arts of lycanthropy with your wizardry.

Oh well, maybe in a sequel.

Thanks for all of your wonderful comments. It gives me great incentive to make more games.

If any of you got a copy through iOS, it would be wonderful if you rated it. At five ratings, it gets an average that shows on its page.

Thanks, I got my five and now it displays the average rating instead of “no ratings”. Thanks to Winnie too, if you’re out there.

I really appreciate all the great reviews on all the platforms, since they bring in new CoG fans, which in turn brings in more games for all.

So, thanks again!
