Choice of Magics — Your magic can change the world, but at what cost?

We’re proud to announce that Choice of Magics, the latest in our popular “Choice of Games” line of multiple-choice interactive-fiction games, is now available for Steam, Android, and on iOS in the Choice of Games Omnibus app. It’s 30% off until August 17th!

Your magic can change the world, but at what cost? Battle dragons, skyships, and evil Inquisitors, as you protect your homeland, conquer it, or destroy it forever.

Choice of Magics is a 550,000-word interactive, post-apocalyptic fantasy novel by Kevin Gold, author of our best-selling game, Choice of Robots. It’s entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Thousands of years ago, the ancients destroyed civilization with five schools of magic. Each spell comes at a terrible price. Glamor charms your adversaries, rotting your body from the inside. Divination reveals faraway secrets, exposing your own secrets to others. Automation gives objects the spark of life, destabilizing the climate. Vivomancy can heal or change living things, with bizarre side effects. Blast your enemies with Negation energy, forming permanent clouds of deadly fallout.

As a young scrounger of antiquities, you hope to build your ruined world anew with these rediscovered spells. Now you must decide which of these magics can transform your post-apocalyptic society, and what you’ll risk to bring hope and light to your kinsmen.

• Play as male, female, or non-binary; straight, gay, bi, or ace.
• Design your own pet, hatch a baby dragon, and build your own golems.
• Win a war, win the crown, or win your best friend’s heart.
• Transform an evil Inquisitor into a talking tortoise, out for revenge. (Eventually.)
• Collect magic items: rings of power, an alchemy set, a “light sword” (wink, wink)
• Romance your village’s geeky mayor, a goofy swordfighter, or even the queen.
• Help a stuffed monkey to repaint all of the murals in the Cathedral dungeon.
• Test out the mayor’s new board game.

Can you bring the world back from ruin and shape a new society? Use your magics well, and you could become as a god; use your magics poorly and destroy the world all over again.

We hope you enjoy playing Choice of Magics. We encourage you to tell your friends about it, and recommend the game on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other sites. Don’t forget: our initial download rate determines our ranking on the App Store. The more times you download in the first week, the better our games will rank.

Any idea when it will be released for kindle/amazon?

When I try to click on the link for the AppStore on the main CoG page for the game, the omnibus app opens, then closes and crashes. I can’t find the game in the omnibus, and there isn’t an update for the app in the store. Am I doing something wrong?

What if you visit the app store and click on the IAP?

okay I ended up buying it from the App Store here, but now the omnibus app crashes every time I try to open it

Can I get a refund because I got it before the update and it was $6.99 when i think it should’ve been $4.99.

Hrm. I don’t believe you should have been charged that, but you should email your receipt to support. The forum is not the best place to ask for support related issues.

What’s the email address?

Had you updated to 1.3.3? Because if you were still on 1.3.2, that would probably explain it.

Getting this error while trying to play site version on my tablet through Firefox. First time seeing something like this.
Should probably mention that demo worked fine.

I can’t get on the Kindle or amazon, I treid what I think is every link I can find, this link the coming on Thursday, the email and the game itself, evry one just bring me to the home page of the amazon appstore and when I serch for the game in the serchbar in that app it doesn’t show up.

Amazon will take up to a few hours.

Email support. Get a screenshot. Let us know what device you’re using. And try using Chrome.

oh, thanks for repling

you are feeding my addiction !!! Gimme Gimmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! :hugs:

Well, before the game came out, I had tried accessing the omnibus but it was crashing as well. I guess it was in the process of the game perhaps. In any event, it was working fine afterwards on iOS.

Anyhow, despite needing to fall asleep, I have tried the game and I must say, I have enjoyed it very much, so congrats @kgold. Will not spoil anything, but let’s just say I saved the kingdom from a problem which I apparently created and created a floating city (hooray for my attention span).

Also, found a tiny typo;

A bracket beside 100.

Send report when prompted. Hope it helps.

Does somebody figured out the best way to raise kingdom power? I really don’t get the algorithm. :disappointed_relieved:

It can be a bit tricky admittedly. For me, it seems like you will increase it if you have high divination, glamour and automation. I did also get a boost when I did something involving negation but that’s long term. I should note however If you go to war, you will lose quite a bit.
