Keeper of the Day and Night (Discussion)

I guess the better way to phrase it is that the MC did not exert their influence as much. Sure they can expose certain secrets to the public but almost all of those actions are reactive. The MC did not exert much agency towards the world off their own will but their actions were more a result of reacting from the world instead. Now this does makes sense for the canon of a basic MC that is the classical fighter hero especially since the MC is new to the world. But a cunning/intelligent MC should’ve been able to be more proactive in exerting their influence without reacting to a possible threat.

An in game example of a missed opportunity in showing the MC’s influence is the MC’s involvement in the SWORD policy making process. Instead of taking an active role in shaping the policies, the MC’s only either agrees or disagrees with it without having their own input taken into account even if they are the first human keeper. There is also very limited amounts of time where the MC interacts directly with the public which only happened in press conferences.

All that said, I don’t really consider this CYOA as a politic-centric one so all of this barely matters. The politics are just an optional bonus to the story. I just want to clarify that having public support does not necessarily means that they have influence. A public figure can endorse a policy or a candidate but there’s no guarantee that endorsement will actually have an impact.

All of this and the fact that most of the MC’s actions that utilise their influence are reactionary are why I can understand why some might find the MC to seem “weak”. I don’t necessarily find the perceived weakness to be off-putting because, to me, in Book 1 the MC was a newbie so they were expected to be weak while in Book 2 despite the MC finally reaching their potential, the MC still cannot impact the Magi world. This sets up a lot of cathartic payoffs in Book 3 when the MC finally impacts the Magi world in a more involved way.

I feel like this book is really just being used as a set up into book 3,with all of these stat increases. I felt as if I didn’t go for a physical fighting build by the end of this book I would have a decent fighting stat. I wonder how high the requirements will be for book 3 choices.

I think it’s more or less the nature of the beast that all of the massive sweeping changes have to be saved for the final part of the series. This applies in the rest of video games as well. You let the council die? Wellll there’s still a council because the writer(s) kinda need them to exist for a bit because some people didn’t let them die. And the alternative is going the Aetherfall route where all the things you did in the previous game just kinda get mentioned in passing at best.

Mixing this with the climb to power has so far been working pretty well, I would say. “Agency” is always going to be tricky outside of single books or ends of a series. I at least felt like I wasn’t nearly so helpless compared to the first, which makes sense on account of no longer being completely new to magic. The real test of agency and all that good stuff will be book three, and with how much of an improvement book 2 was over the first I have no doubts in that regard.

Maybe it’s to soon but is there an achievement guide out yet? Also how do you get road to hell I hear there was a truth potion bit I never came across one

Need to investigate the city wards.you’ll have an opportunity to use the truth potion on the person who’s solstice invitation you accept.

I did that but I never came across any mention of a truth potion

Hmm. In that case it might be a case of not meeting stat requirements. Cunning or intelligence. I’m not a coder so I can’t tell you which.

My ritual and potions is always low so it could be that?

Nope. My hunter MC can do it. Less than 10 potions, no ritual. You’ll have to wait for someone who can look at the code to get an exact answer. An mc of mine with less than 30 intelligence and less than 15 cunning did not get that scene.

Ah alright I’m going to start from the first book and do a high cunning, intelligence and low willpower as a drakaina maybe. Any recommendations on species beside campion and human playthroughs?

I spent the whole of yesterday bingeing both books and now I’m going to be counting down the days until book 3 releases wow.

I love hunter!MC so much that I’m gonna have to force myself to try the other species routes - I just can’t wait for the chaos if the general public ever finds out about that particular secret though to my shame I completely missed there was a hunter political faction you could side with?? Time to replay - I’m assuming you get into this route if you reject everyone else . Also I’m 100% going to take a file into book 3 where Hunter MC is pretending to side with Frostbite in order to take them down from from the inside - probably while romancing Kol for ~maximum drama~

But honestly I feel for the MC during the many, many times they compliain about everyone around them being incompetent. How magi society has survived up to this point is a mystery for the ages.

Regarding plot stuff

  • I’m ashamed to say that Dominic wasn’t even pinging as suspicious on my radar and I was 100% buying into Marcella being a frostbite sleeper agent until the very end - I had to code dive to figure out who was legit when I had to pick between them RIP. Guess investigating the Constellation Project conspiracy in book 1 had me biased against anyone remotely involved in them.

  • I love how subtle the foreshadowing was that the Brant in your dreams wasn’t actually Brant - I completely ignored Tremblay in the waking world so I didn’t get the chance to compare personalities but between solstice!Brant saying that he could only communicate with MC thanks to the ritual and dream!Brant being kept at bay by a moonstone meant to ward away nightmares I was like ooooo when the reveal dropped

  • Did the single mom plotline and was neutral / leaning on dislike towards Lysander going into book 2, but by the end of the game I really felt sorry for the guy and hope him and mom get back together. The road to hell is paved with good intentions indeed. Also, if the MC is human do they ever mention what species Lysander is?

  • My canon choice re: Dominic’s fate is probably to let him go while trying to convince him to turn against Frostbite, looking at that doozy of a stat check to successfully do this choice hopefully it’ll pay off in book 3

  • MCs grades really went down the toilet after being on the president’s list freshman year, oh well they’re a keeper they have iron clad job security after graduation assuming they don’t die

  • Altair is the goodest boy (and MC will make him see that), when he admitted that his work on the anti-magic potion was spurred on by his desire not to have the MC succumb to MOS I melted. But even though he’s a hellfire using cambion who’s magic scores are literally off the charts I’m very amused that his route felt like the ‘superhero’s non-powered RO’ route thanks to him not being involved in fighting monsters or politicians. Also big shoutout to him being totally chill about the hunter MC reveal, really wasn’t expecting that considering his past with Astrid.

Edit: **@wolf666 To use the truth potion MC needs to have 30 cunning by chapter 11

Yup, unlike traditional narratives, you have to consider all the different branches that will sprout out of a single decision especially those that are meant to have sweeping changes to the world. It is the challenge of all IFs I guess. I don’t really mind the question of agency as I expect it to be resolved in Book Three based on the final scene of Book Two. I’m just saying I get why some might find the MC to be “weak” but I implore those to wait until Book Three to fully pass their judgement on MC’s journey.

Hello,

First of all, congratulation on the release of KotDaN @daydreamsincolor ! Just finished my first playthrough and I enjoyed the outcome very much, I was happy that my Keeper is able to capture all three Frostbite Agents. Didn’t exprect to do and was able to revive Kol! Though there some choices I would probably explore more.

For those who tried the Leon’s route during the epilogue, , there’s the part that he manipulated the MC into hating him. Majority if the options were greyed out except for the first one (My Keeper hating him). I assume this is tied to the sanity score for them to be available? Most of the time my Keeper focus on training and trying to survive and avoiding politics all together. I’m just curious but my Keeper nevertheless broke the “spell” which I am very glad. I wonder if there’s a alternative scene from this regardless of the choice made?

I enjoyed the game fully and looking forward to the final book!

Im fairly sure you need willpower greater than or equal to 40 to get the greyed out options for his route.

Are there any effect if you choose the other choices? To be honest, I really thought that Leon and my Keeper will broke up when I saw only one option. :joy: But it didn’t end that way and I was practically bawling when true love broke the spell (cheesy I know… :smirk:)

Since I’m done with replaying the whole game over and over again, I thought it would be nice to help others get the achievements for themselves.

I’ve gotten Dream of Me with low (teens) cunning before; I was playing a character with jacked intelligence, in fairness.

2 things, pretty sure Tripartate doesn’t automatically unlock in chapter 12. Only times I’ve gotten it were with high cunning and intelligence and choosing the option to try to get Dominic to switch sides. Not sure what the exact requirements are, but it’s not an automatic achievement.

Second thing, for Media Darling, when asked about the SAVIOR Act, you can say “this act is a complete erosion of longstanding democratic principles” (or the one that sounds the closest to that, I can’t remember exactly what it was) and still get the achievement, as long as the other two answers are from the guide you posted.

Thanks for the corrections! Updated the thing.

I honestly thought it would unlock automatically if you simply beat Dominic since, in my first playthrough, that’s what I did but I also took down Marcela. I forgot the fact that I tried to convince him to turn against Frostbite afterwards.

Also, the media darling has a hidden stat called ‘success’, and I think the option you suggested doesn’t add to that stat. It does increase cunning, though.
