I dunno, I’d love to see more proper vampires instead of the regular pop culture ones.

I hope that’s a good thing and not a bad thing! One of my ROs made a 180° and now I hate them. :sunglasses:

So, I was on a WIP and saw a lot of requests for something pretty specific. I gave a piece of advice that I thought I’d share here:

Don’t do something just because the audience wants it. Really think about the decision and the implications of it. Maybe it can work, but maybe it can’t. Don’t rush into any decisions

Too late, I’m already stuck writing a whole romance route for a huge, angry metal spider which my players wanted to bang.

The point, as I see it, do it only if you want to. Nothing wrong with doing what audience wants if you want it too, but don’t do it if you don’t want to do it. (Oh great, how eloquent. :person_facepalming:)

You’re joking, but from my excursions into the more… interesting… parts of the internet, I know for a fact that there are people into this kind of stuff.

Some readers get very enthusiastic about pushing their ideas on authors, but it is rarely malicious and overall rather a sign they’re excited about the story. But please don’t go including giant metal spider romances unless you really want to (in which case, hey, does anyone remember that one pigeon dating sim? Still kinda wonder just how the author came up with the idea…)

Yep! But now I’ve remembered “My Horse Prince”, and I feel it’s enough trips down the memory lane for today.

@Omeg Ok, sorry, I registered it as a joke. Why would I disbelieve you? If you want to write it and feel it’s appropriate for the story, sure, you can add what you want.

Hatoful Boyfriend! I really enjoyed that one.

It’s not fail states exactly, but in Ladykiller in a Bind there are personality options that open up during intimate scenes that are reflective of how you’ve played the game in the daytime scenes. So a more bossy PC can access different responses, etc. It’s quite fun to see the different options go by and wonder what they might lead to.

I think failure states could potentially be interesting (I’m interested in seeing more non-“perfect” scenes like that in games) but also could just be frustrating in a bad way - it depends on how it’s done, really. It could be charming to see a PC and NPC connect in a different way than a typical idealised situation.

Vaguely related to a discussion upthread about editing (and a bit about specific requests for things):

This week I put together all my unimplemented Honor Bound feedback and triaged it in order of priority of highest/high/medium/low/nice-to-have/to consider, and sorted it by chapter. It was a fair bit of work as I’d put a lot of it aside for later, but I decided that later is now!

It was really helpful to look at it and recognise what was a necessity and what might not be, and have a fresh look at it after a few weeks. Sometimes I’ll assume that I don’t need to do much with a piece of feedback, and then with more distance, I’ll have another look and realise that actually, this scene does need more dialogue in it for example.

So when looking at feedback it’s really helpful to take time to assess it and in some cases figure out what the problem really is - sometimes it won’t be what they think it is, or a solution being suggested isn’t actually the right one, but taking that time means you can work out what you want to do with it.

Intimate scene where failstate is the MC accidentally punching their partner’s nose, and then both of them end up laughing themselves silly? I’d be down for that.

Do we have a buddy system here, sort of poking each other like book editors for writers.
A bit annoying side kick version but with bits of humor? :sweat_smile:

Today finished the scene I was working on but started to feel a bit exhausted. Too many paths to keep on mind and keep their tokens(booleans) to tap. Also giving a break for more than 4-5 days makes it bit harder to tie pathways so need to find an optimum standard. :robot:

Going to write/code last scene on my objectives panel tomorrow hopefully.

@Anna_B I 2nd her share about not doing everything asked by users, it will never finish and it will burn you slowly.

@lliiraanna What the hecklefish is the pigeon datimg sim? :sweat_smile:

It’s called Hatoful Boyfriend. It’s, well, a dating sim/otome where you play as a hunter-gatherer girl who can date pigeons. It’s, uh. Actually quite a bit darker than it seems from this description.

I am not. Metal spider romance is actually a thing I’m doing. The people into this kind of stuff are in my featured thread, you can look through it if you want proof.

Not that I’m terribly upset or anything, I don’t mind adding stuff just because someone wants it. I’m trying to end up with a high wordcount anyway, one more optional path or scene cannot possibly hurt, even if it is a bit weird.

As a rule of thumb, I only refuse requests that involve removing something from the story. This can mean literally deleting a part of the game, but also losing something abstract, like characterization or thematic relevance. One of the first scenes in my story was found annoying by multiple people (as a certain moderator reading this can attest) but it’s staying there forever because I wrote it and I did it for a reason.

Which I think is a pretty healthy attitude to have, even if freaky spider sex is where it leads.

In today’s news, I’ve spent two hours trying to figure out what size I should set the canvas for the box art. :person_facepalming:

It is easier when you do it daily when new posts pop up, instead of trying to like the whole month’s worth of posts at the same time.

Iirc, the largest size they ask for has a roughly 20:27 aspect ratio (so, taller than it is wide), so anything ranging around that size should work.

Of course, you’ll need to crop it for banner ads and Steam capsule anyway, so don’t get too attached to the idea of showing the full piece everywhere.

Kind of a random thing but cracking myself up a bit being like “Hm this scene feels repetitive” and then realising it’s because I’m playing out the same beats with five different characters for five different versions of the scene. No duh it feels repetitive!

Every dialogue just ending up like this.

I always manage to check in at the end of the month XD. I have been sick again. Gotta love chronic illness. I do have 1 character’s, one of the ROs, background nailed down. Right now I’m still trying to figure out how the plot is going to run exactly.

So, the premise of my story is you’re a chrono-mancer. You have the ability to wield time and space. You were born with the ability.

  • Your MC will have the choice of weapon they use in combat: So far I have
  • sword,
  • daggers,
  • bow and arrow that are going to be part of that list.

Between your stats and choice of weapon, that you choose, it will impede or enhance your abilities when using your chrono magic.

You will have the chance to bond with a familiar. One at the beginning of the game, and you will have another chance to bond with a second familiar as the game progresses.
Out of those familiars, you will have the choices so far of:
~cat
~dog
~rat
~owl
~raven
~fox

There maybe more eventually. You will also have the chance to bond with a mount. The bonding ritual with your mount depends on what sort of stats you have.

The biggest part of this story is I’m creating my own language. I know a bit of Spanish and English so I’m sort of combining those. The language that you will use for spells and deciphering ruins etc is called Sulenese ( the language of the sun.) Now your people worship or some did used to worship Sul (the sun god.) Whether you choose to worship Sul or not is upto your MC.

So for example some words I’m planning to use in game are:

Sulense word: English translation: protege (pronounced pro-te-je. ) protect

`shielde (pronounced shield-e) a shield or barrier

`miene (pronouonced me-nay) me or myself

But thats all I have so far! Nothing concrete written down yet but I’m working on it! I hope you all have productive writing days in the days and weeks to come! And don’t melt in this heat…
