Jolly Good: Tea and Scones

I already pilfered a pearl, collected correspondence, and corralled success from a card shark, while absolutely tanking Skullduggery. Bring it, Haz- er, I mean, Mysterious Benefactor.

(also, I’ve replayed Jolly Good yesterday and I can’t BELIEVE I didn’t get the Guy Fox pun earlier! What is wrong with me?!)

End of October update! I am practically done with Chapter Three. I have one more little bit to write to give players the option to back out of something they started. (I want there to be at least an interesting and unique–but brief–conversation you can have there).

And then I need to redo an extended joke involving Tabby because my focus group (my kids) didn’t think it was funny and the more I thought about it the more I agreed. So, having thought of a better punch line, I need to rework the setup. That’ll be a writing day right there.

But it will be done in the next few days. I’m really pleased with how it’s come out. Chapter Four is going to be very smooth sailing, I think–it’s going to be one of those timed hub-and-spoke chapters that I love writing (like the foxhunt, or the opera/press/boxing&dining chapters), with, I hope lots of little nooks in it for romantic moments, especially with Gilberto and Vyv–at least, that’s the plan!

I find this lack of Fitzie… disturbing.

Good luck with chapter 4!!

Fitzie will get plenty of time on stage in chapter four, don’t worry! Whoever your favorite RO is in this game, you’ll have lots and lots of time together.

Thanks so much! So far it’s been so fun writing this game. I wish I could write it all day long. That’s the annoying thing about work, I suppose.

Edit on 11/5: And done! Chapter Three is now in the hands of my long-suffering editor, and now it’s time to grade papers for a while and draw out the flow of Chapter Four on paper. What I really want is to make a diorama of the manor and the town with little miniatures for all of the characters so I can get a bird’s eye view of everyone wandering around, but I’ll have to be content with pen and paper, at least until Lego contacts me to license my game.

Hi!
I just finished Cakes and Ale and I loved it!
I wish i had read this thread before finishing it since I could have waited until there is a save option at the end. I was wondering if you think it is necessary to spend the time going through all my choices again until I reach almost the end of the game so I can wait for the save option? Or will it be the same to just create a new character on Tea and Scones and answer the questions depending on the choices I took in the past? Will there be any difference in terms of importing my choices?

Hi, Myriam! The save option won’t be added until I get really close to finishing Tea and Scones, and I’m just starting chapter four of eight, so it’ll be a while!

When you start Tea and Scones, you’ll have the option to import a save, which will remember all of your past choices, or do a “quick start” character which has preset choices, or answer a series of questions to establish your character. The “import a save” version will be the most robust way to remember everything from before–the other methods will only record the biggest and most important decisions. But all of them will feel satisfying in play.

Thank you that’s really helpful! If i get back to the Epilogue and do not finish the game, will I be able to save once it’s added (even if it’s in several months)?

I’m pretty sure that is how it works–(and just so you have realistic expections, we’re looking at significantly more than several months from now!)

Thank you in that case I might just use the customisable new character, I hope that there will be a lot of questions at the beginning with important choices we can import that way! I tried to retrace the game with the same choices but I can never get the exact same results somehow (which is a testimony to how complex and brilliant it is!) and I might change phones by the time the next games comes out anyway. i think i will make a note of all the main choices I made so I can remember them. Thank you so much for such a great game I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hope you got a nice break as a reward to yourself! as one of your readers your dedication you show on your progression posts (like the story branches you’re prepared for!) always makes my jaw drop.

Obviously I don’t know if it’ll be the case here, but note that my experience with other CoG game series is that a save import results in characters with higher skill/personality ratings, in case that’s important to you.

Congrats on finishing your draft of chapter 3 and starting on chapter 4! Looks like there’s a lot of stuff going on and a lot of variation in this one, so don’t forget to take care of yourself first. Take care!

Thanks, I might just replay it when the second part comes, but I would have liked to keep the same progression

The fact that chapter 4’s first vignette is called Where Did I Wake Up is giving me very strong “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry vibes

Ooh I wonder who could that be ? :smirk:

Um…. Is it…… Ambrose ? :flushed: (I’m joking it’s probably starling, right?)

I know it’s Starling, but I’d be so up for romancing Ambrose.
