Interest Check Thread

Would be more interested in playing an alien with some kind of unique racial ability but the game still sounds interesting but I will reserve further judgement until I’ve seen the demo and stats.

Alaska was taken by Russia, was not bought away, Canada was taken by France and Russia, later all Russian as per terms of Russia joining the Central Powers and the ensuing Central Powers victory. Russia defeats the Red Army, the Bolshevik party and their supporters flee to neighboring Germany, who has grown increasingly unstable after WW1, despite the victory, Russia remains Imperial however there is a large push to become Federal. French and British citizens hear about Mussolini’s Fascist party in Italy, it becomes a popular idea, and is first implemented in Britian by Royal decree, France sees a brief revolution funded by both Britain and Bolsheviks, which ends with Le Faisceau taking control, (Le Faisceau was a very politically middling fascist party, with large amounts of socialist influence). America remains a Federal Republic, however there is a lot of push for both fascism and communism. I’m toying around with the idea of having a Russian invasion during an alternate WW2, I also would like to have an alien invasion because I like sci-fi and I don’t think we get enough sci-fi here

Russia’s a Central Power? That sort-of removes the reasoning for the WWI happening in the first place (also there are probably some issues about Russia’s economic situation and depending on the Brits and French). Also Lenin had been briefly arrested in Germany turning the war.

I’m not entirely sure whether you can end up Russian Canada - a French victory in the Seven Years’ War can keep Canada French but that butterflies everything, and even if it is entirely French I’m not sure whether Russia could occupy enough of Canada to compel it being given away. I do see the point about having Canada in order for Russia to have a springboard to invade, but Mexico’s another option, and that’s also a breach of Monroe Doctrine.

Personally I’d think that an alien invasion would be completely unexpected and a major shift in tone unless it was mentioned early, in which case it wouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Hey all,

Random question, but would having romanceable characters with different sexualities (so depending on MC’s gender could not be romanceable) make you not want to play the game? Or would you not mind? I want my story to include such a thing to make it more lifelike, but I worry that it could alienate players.

There are different threads that get on this, but it’s always going to be a thing where some people says yes and some people say no.

Personally, I lean towards the idea it’s sort of weird to think that everyone’s preferences should hinge on what the MC’s is, but by a replayability aspect, it’s probably better that any character has something of a chance of a romance with another character.

Like, if they are just there for the MC to have a romance, then they’re more or less just satellite characters.

Canada wasn’t as settled as it is these days, Russian occupation of a few major cities and perhaps some monetary incentives would be enough, I think, but I’ll have to look into it more, perhaps the French Republic is willing to sell the land to the US in order to recoup some war costs or to quell the growing Fascist elements. Russia being a Central Power is a bit of a stretch, would’ve feasibly happened if Germany sided with Russia at the Congress of Berlin, or it could’ve possibly happened if Germany didn’t start a war on the Russian Front. I hadn’t actually considered Mexico, they’re a bit outside of my sphere of study, but I might look into them, see if it works out smoothly enough

@Melancholy I think having characters have consistent sexuality is good, but it depends on the setting really, in some places sexuality might have a bigger influence on who someone is compared to other places. A secret affair between two men in Nazi Germany carries a bit more weight to it than that of a heterosexual one, whereas a gay couple in Ancient Sparta is almost expected. But I’m no expert

With no context at all, would you rather romance and/or befriend a dragon and be a prince/ss, or be the dragon and romance and/or befriend a prince/ss? Let’s assume here that the dragon does also have a human-esque form.

  • Be the prince/ss!
  • Be the dragon!

(By the way, I absolutely love this thread. I had an interest check thread once-upon-a-time but even before posting had searched for something of this nature - something that didn’t have to be a formal new post when it was just dedicated to asking general questions about ideas - and this is wonderful because it offers all that without taking up space or making a commitment to anything in particular.)

Idle thought.

You’re a character in a classic cartoon world with all that entails. Whacky physics, villains of every stripe and color, and cheap crappy gadgets that never do the thing they’re supposed to.

Your character will likely be some kind of anthropomorphic animal, though there will likely be an option to be a “normal person.”

Now here’s where things get heavy. Toons don’t really age or die(at least permanently). Despite all the bright colors, it’s a crapsack world full of nigh immortal beings doing just whatever they want. These aren’t the kind of things that can just be killed so they go away. No matter what you do, those out to get you? Just. Won’t. Ever. Stop.

Naturally, the same goes for you. No matter what they do, it’s not as if it can really do all that much to you. But this doesn’t mean the bad guys can be dismissed as harmless either. Immortality is both painful, and those out to do bad things are always scheming(Possibly you as well.)

Of course, I already have two wips that I’m barely working on as it is, so I don’t think I should add a third yet. Just want to see what people think of that concept, and maybe in a few centuries, I will get back to writing it if people like the idea.

Almost done with the demo, need to know interest.

Game is called Street Jam: The Rise (Still considering names) and you play as a new fighter looking to rise in the underground streetfighter circuit. It’s a mature adventure where you will choose rather to rise through legit wins and sheer skill or by cheating your way through and shooting up competitors. Or perhaps you’d rather use the police to rig your way to the top.

Your motivation can anything from money, glory, thrills, or blood. Whether you end up the champion, the kingpin, the chief of police, or in an early grave is entirely dependent on you.

No gender locking

Inspired by the criminally underrated def jam series

Key features:
Choose your background, from military to criminal to cops to entertainment.
Have the people adore or fear you
Win by killing people or by arresting people
Choose to fight with speed, strength, endurance, or intellect
Use your background to win or lose

I like it. It’s a lot like one of my already existing WIPS, but from the sound of it, the atmosphere and style is completely different.

All in all, there really isn’t enough classic fighting style games here.

What about a prince/ess that’s also a dragon?

Given the choice to be a dragon, always be the dragon. :dragon:

Why that sounds almost too much like a mighty fine idea. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Ah, perhaps wiser words have never been spoken. (They should be the first Golden Rule, truly, and I believe anything else would be nothing short of a grave injustice.) Color me convinced.

My work here is done, I think I’ll consider this my humanitarian deed for the week.

Now this is just personal preference, but I have strong distaste for the “Everyone else is special, except for you.” route that some games do.

I guess…being human when everyone around is different is being “unique” but not in any way that makes it cool.

Personally, I never got the appeal of “Everyone has super powers and special abilities. But YOU DON’T. Isn’t that fun?”

I’d really have to see more. Context is important.

Yeah, I find it kinda boring to play as a human all the time.

I’ve seen kind of a surprising amount of WIP on here lately that go for that angle, where you’re the only human or the only one without powers in a world with powers, and I’d like more where you’re actually… something interesting? Instead of constant, “you’re just a human, you can’t do basically anything and you’ll never understand what it’s like to be one of us and we’re gonna be dicks to you now cause haha you’re just a weak human.”

I always enjoy the underdog trope. There is something very satisfying in bringing doom to those who have underestimated you.

But can’t you do that while being something that stands out?

It’s a lot like SPORE, in my point of view. I don’t see why some players spend all their time trying to make a human like race of aliens, when you can be anything BUT.

Hell, if you want to, it’s possible to make a race of blind slugs who are also a warrior race ruling half the galaxy. Or a tiger/centaur cross breed creation that is a race of scientists just trying to study in peace and quiet.

Like…there’s all this room for potential for things, and what do people want to do with it? Stick with the most familiar setting that they know and can see everyday in real life. Just…all this room to do so much more, but then just choosing the most basic thing.

Very good point. However, I find my perspective to be the contrary. I find that humanity is deeply interesting, more so than any fantastical concoction our inventive minds can fabricate. In Mark Twain’s words “the truth is stranger than fiction”.
