Midnight Bloodletting (working title)

**Disclaimer**

This is currently being written as a short self-contained story and side project. I like the setting and characters, but I don’t have a longer story planned right now. I’m not opposed to continuing, it’s just not my priority right now.

Also, this boy is gonna be gory and contain a fair bit of explicit language. If you aren’t okay with gore, skip this one.

You are a supernatural mercenary. During a job gone wrong you were given a “choice,” share a body with a Devil, or die alone and afraid (choose one of five power sets). It wasn’t much of a choice, but you made it all the same. Now you’ve got another voice rattling in your skull.

Years after, you’ve grown into a legend. A single person sent to perform the job of an entire trained squadron. With supernatural and unexplainable powers at your disposal, they leave the average person helpless.

Tonight, you’re outside of the Echis Oil E&D Compound. Locked down with enough manpower and firepower to look like a military base. You’re being sent in to eliminate the head of R&D, Desmond Thornton, and destroy whatever research of his you find.

Choose your loadout, choose your fighting style, choose your Devil. By the end of the night, Echis will have a few more job openings.

Hopefully it sounds somewhat interesting to y’all. I’m already working on it and plan on pushing out the short story sooner rather than later.

If linking the main post once a demo exists isn’t allowed on this page, lmk and I’ll axe this bit. Main post.

(Hopefully I get this right; it’s my first time.)

a doomed day

You’ve always known that your family would be the death of you… but not literally!

Returning home, having been gone for years now, you celebrate your mother’s retirement party. After some a family dinner, a cheesy group photo, and avoiding the family secrets (as always), you are murdered.

And the day repeats once more.

With your memories intact.

a doomed day is a time-loop murder-mystery. In a family who secretly (or not-so secretly) hate each other, who can you trust? Who wants you dead and why? Find the true culprit to escape the loop.

Genre: modern, mystery, suspense

Similar: Knives Out, Nancy Drew games, Clue the game/movie, Slay the Princess.

features
  • Play as cisgender, nonbinary (AFAB/AMAB), or transgender. Choose how accepting your family is. There will be consequences.
  • Choose your personality. The narration you read is heavily affected by your personality first and foremost. Certain personalities are more (or less) aware of your family members’ true natures. Assuming that true nature is the truth and not just your truth…
  • Time-loop mechanic. Repeat the day three times. After each loop ends, your choices will be tracked. Whether or not you want them to. Failure to find the true culprit will continue the loops.
  • Collect clues. With each loop, find clues. With each clue found, you can use them in the next day. Clues can be murder motives, family secrets, or possible murder places. You may be successful questioning your family the next loop… or perhaps you’ll die trying.
  • Unhealthy family. Your family hates you. But it’s okay—they hate each other too. While you may be able to find allies, you’ll only need their trust so that you can survive one day.
  • Murder mystery. While you may be killed by a different family member in any given day, there is only one true culprit: the culprit who murdered you and began the loop in the first place. Finding them will end the loop.
meet the family

Cass

Your mother prides herself on being the perfect housewife—excellent at cleaning, cooking, and working. If she’s as good as mother as she tells you, why can’t you believe her?

Lay

You remember “Lay” is your father’s nickname. You remember him throwing cake at your mother during their wedding. You remember the scent of his morning woods cologne lingering in the home long after he’d left for work. But you do not remember your father.

Bruce

Uncle Bruce has always had a soft spot for you. He balances out his wife Lia well enough. Even though you warned him of your family, he still married into it. At least he isn’t hiding secrets like the rest of your family, right?

Lia

Auntie Lia is a romantic and charming. Whereas her brother Lay works hard, she’s content to find shortcuts whenever possible. Too bad her first marriage ended so poorly for the woman. She’s never been quite the same since.

Rom

Your cousin Rom is the child of your aunt’s first marriage. Rom and you have been historically friendly, often teasing and insulting one another. But your cousin has no intentions on breaking free from your family. Not like how you did.

Queenia

Grannie, the mother of your mother, is dying. She spends her days in her rocking chair, mumbling, staring out the window. Your family refuses to give her higher care. Whatever secrets your grandmother holds, whatever caused your family to be… this… have been lost to her failing mind.

my thoughts

Since it lacks romance, I was thinking about adding a mechanic where you can create your partner and call them periodically. That way you’d have a sane person to bounce ideas off of. Nancy Drew style.

I don’t particularly want to code an RO, but I do see the potential benefits with an RO.

There are around 12 endings, including joke endings, variation endings, and a very bad ending, and a very good ending—to name a few.

gameplay mechanics

The first day is a tutorial loop. Your options are restricted. You will then begin the next three days (loops).

  • Create your character. It will be tracked.

  • Meet your family (future days will skip this part if you wish).

  • Chat with them. Dialogue branches become unlocked the more clues you collect. You can use these dialogues to gain allies or enemies.

  • Eat dinner. Depending on your actions up until now, dinner can go fantastic or very poorly. Choose wisely.

  • Family photos. It will be your last time with your family happy.

  • Investigation. With some down-time, investigate your family members, especially their responses to dinner. Search the house for clues. Search for possible murder places. Search previous death locations. You do not have unlimited time here because you must–

  • Die. Who kills you, where at, in what way, and with how many accomplices helping out… are the result of your actions. But each death gets you closer to the true culprit.

  • Your judgement. Judge the true culprit.

  • Thus begins the next day…

I always find this type of concept to be interesting with the medium that we are in, I am interested either way with ROs or without.

I just can’t wait to see it.

I’m a huge sucker for time-loop stories. Coding for it has been going well enough in Choicescript (even if it is a little clunky at times). I have also coded the ability to call your customizable RO—it’s currently optional in-game.

this sounds SOOOO SICK!!! i’d play this with or without ROs tbh, but if the story works better without i’d go for that 100% because the premise by itself sounds so so cool

Yessss more time loop stories in choicescript!!! I’ve been obsessed ever since that one super old HG game from the early days, and always thought that there’s been a severe lack of this genre here. Would play with or without RO, I’d say to do what best fits your vision!

Edit: the old time loop game I mentioned is Paradox Factor by Mike Walter aka LucidGames! I highly, highly recommend it for anyone interested in time loop or time travel elements, it’s just such a wonderfully written story.

AGE OF SUDAN: ANCIENT BLOOD

Historical Setting, Alternate Reality, Romance, War, Betrayal, Immersion, Fiction

A ChoiceScript Saga of Power, Treason, and the Soul of a Nation

Logline: From the divine cradle of Jebel Marra, survive four centuries of betrayal and revolution. You are the embodiment of the marginalized West: will you reclaim the ancient bloodline, or will the sins of the North condemn Sudan to endless war?

This is a four-part epic that plunges players into the true, complex history of Sudan, forcing them to make generational choices as they witness the rise and fall of nations from the perspective of the Darfuri “Ancient Blood.”

The Four Ages of Choice

Book I: RISE OF THE FUR (1785–1838) :mountain:

The game begins in the opulent court of the Keira Sultanate in Darfur—a nation built on the mythical legacy of the Prophet Nuh’s Ark resting on Jebel Marra. You play as Mohamed Al-Fadl, the son of the Fur Princess Keira and a powerful Arab warrior.

Your Choices Define:

  • The Crown: Navigate the vicious succession war against your full-blooded Fur rivals. Do you rely on your mother’s Fur army for legitimacy, or your father’s Arab kin for military might?

  • The King: Consolidate the Sultanate. Will you be a patron of Islamic scholarship and peace, or an expansionist warrior who controls the vital desert trade routes?

  • The Legacy: Your actions determine if the Fur Sultanate is strong enough to withstand the coming onslaught of the colonial era.

Book II: THE FIRST REVOLUTION (1881–1899) :drop_of_blood:

The Sultanate has fallen. You now play as Caliph Abdallah al-Ta’aishi, a powerful holy man and warrior from Darfur. You are the chosen successor of the Mahdi and the leader of the entire nation, ruling from Omdurman.

Your Choices Define:

  • The Ruler: Crush internal revolts from the Ashrāf (the Mahdi’s relatives) and the Awlād al-Balad (the Northern riverine elite). Do you rule with merciless tribal loyalty (Ta’aisha) or attempt to gain the respect of the hostile, privileged North?

  • The War: Face the technologically superior Anglo-Egyptian army led by Kitchener. Do you retreat to the deserts to wage a guerrilla war, or stand your ground at Omdurman in a glorious (but devastating) final battle?

  • The Betrayal: Crucially, your actions will determine how many Northern leaders (Ja’alin, Shaigiyya) choose to commit Treason by colluding with the British, solidifying the Western trauma that lasts a century.

Book III: NEW MILLENNIUM (1990s–2005) :broken_heart:

A century later, you take the role of Gibreel Abdallah, a brilliant Darfuri intellectual and sincere activist within the ruling National Islamic Front (NIF) regime in Khartoum, facing the architects of the modern state: Al-Bashir, Taha, Bakri Hassan Salih, and Salah Gosh.

Your Choices Define:

  • The Integrity: You are the “living memory” of the NIF. Use your intelligence and moral righteousness to advocate for Darfur’s development and peace against the self-serving NIF elite.

  • The Peace: Successfully unite the warring Arab and non-Arab tribes in Darfur against common banditry. Do you use your political capital to press for national investment or protect your local alliances?

  • The Collapse: When the NIF elite sees your unity as a threat, they marginalize you and issue orders to incite the Darfur War (2003). Do you resign in protest and risk prison, or stay inside the regime to try and mitigate the damage? Your final choice will determine the fate of millions as the South achieves peace (John Garang), and the West explodes into conflict.

Book IV: THE LAST STAND (2003–Present) :drop_of_blood:

The conflict has spiraled. You now play as Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), a Darfuri leader forced from humble beginnings to command the Janjaweed militias, now known as the RSF.

Your Choices Define:

  • The Scapegoat: Do you follow the genocidal orders of figures like Al-Burhan (the “God of Fur”) to gain legitimacy and arms, or do you refuse the orders and protect the civilian population, risking your own life and the destruction of your forces?

  • The Alliance: Face the final betrayal: Darfuri armed movement leaders (Jibreel Ibrahim, Minni Minnawi) ally with their NIF nemesis to secure political seats. Do you join your kinsmen in their corruption, or accept that the RSF is the last, brutal, uncompromised hope of the West?

  • The Revolution: The final choice is the ultimate one: Initiate the uprising against the SAF and the Northern establishment. Do you fight a clean war to secure true democracy, or use overwhelming force to ensure the “Ancient Blood” finally reclaims its nation?

This is more than a game—it’s an exploration of power, identity, and the weight of history. Every book places the player at the center of a historical crisis, where the choice is never between good and evil, but between survival and integrity.

INTERESTED? Let us know which era’s choices most compel you!

i dont think its a good idea(not the book concept let me clearfy that) just the part of already haveing a series despite not knowing if you will have motivation to finish maybe take it one step at a time (god i hope i dont sound mean im not trying to)

Thanks for the great feedback! That’s a very good point!

Well I’ll be taking it one step at a time, whether am considering a series at first or not, I won’t be getting ahead of myself, I know that getting enough motivation is key, I wouldn’t want a quarter finished project, the first book feels like a more realistic target to focus on, don’t you think? Or maybe one of the other books seems more appealing to you?

Wonderful idea! (Your post was seen in the email notification) And it’s a very interesting thing to thin of, perhaps I can find a way to track a single Protagonist throughout the 4 ages, or a Single Protagonist’s family? My first priority would be the first book. But I’ll try to refine the prospective to maintain a sense of single protagonist/protagonist heir.

This idea is something I be very interested in. A political game set in Africa .

Curious I’m guessing the character is male and predefined. Honestly this sounds like it could be a great RPG style game .

What are you modeling this game after if you don’t have anything in mind check out Suzerain it’s a political simulator where you play the leader of fictional country similar to Turkey . It has politics , world building and actual story .

Will you allow players to choose gender and sexuality of the character . If not i honestly say it would do a lot better on itch.io.

I will say if you can Incoropate the politics good and make it rival story based political simulators like suzerain you can get a decent sized audience .

Political simulators can be very popular but you have to know how to write politics and actually know what your talking about when delving into them .

honesly im good with whatever you have in mind im just glad my comment wasnt taken as too harsh as someone who has been in this communty for a good while now too often authors plan a series only to burn themselfs out and the project being left on unresolved that aside im a history fan/ kingdom sim fan so good luck!

I played many Simulators/RPGs, and many text-based RPGs like Suzerain, Daria, War for the West and various other games, the game concept am trying to achieve with my game is something of a hybrid one, I’m almost done with a concept demo, I’ll share it soon. Also I’m new to this forum, should I start a dedicated forum for this yet?

This idea was floating around my head when drifting to sleep last night.

You are an eldritch horror that got trapped in a human’s body. In the game, you are constantly torn between living in a capitalist hellscape or degrading your body faster so you can join your master in consuming sentient worlds. The choices you would face in the game would be along the lines of climbing the corporate ladder, partaking in office gossip, being a pain for HR, finding a partner. There would also be choices regarding your long term health, such as going to sleep on time vs doomscrolling or skiping rent so you can afford healthier food.

If you meant dedicated forum then I wouldn’t do that and until I actually built up a fanbase it’s over kill . If you just meant thread then when the demos available you should start it up .

I will say this ask yourself if you are really gonna do all three games. Maybe start small so many ppl with grand ideas either don’t finish or do a smaller version of it first .

A slice of life game where you’re an Eldritch horror? That sounds totally up my alley!

Just doing a single game, and yeah I meant forum post but the word ‘post’ disappeared for some reason! I already have the prologue of the first game done, would love to share for some live feedback. You interested?

I like the idea, though eldritch horror wanting a human for a partner baffles me. I mean, it’s eldritch horror! Humans are either for your cult or yummy food! Would you fornicate with food? :grimacing:

Eldritch horror climbing corporate ladder, now that I can get behind as it amplifies the horror tenfold.

First part reminds of passenger, would like more eldritch horror games tho.
