Interest Check Thread

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from.

Those were my initial thoughts as well, but then I kinda… grew conflicted about whether that’s a good idea in that version.

My thoughts on the matter:

If I’m really aiming for a mysterious tone from the Special Forces side, then it wouldn’t make much sense to reveal the POV of the assassin RO since it’d just straight up remove any question about their identity (perhaps if I’m careful about it and just give some tidbits here and there it can work, but still). I also want to make all ROs gender-selectable, so that’s another question: obviously, I can make you set the assassin’s gender at the beginning of the game, not after meeting them, but then I’m pretty sure people will find out that one character has differing genders depending on what they chose. Basically, that’s out of the question too (and I still want to keep the gender-selectable aspect, so…)

At this point, the only way I see it can work is if it’s some kind of a known rivalry between the MC and the assassin RO, meaning that they know each other’s identities and such. But, again, if I’m not careful, it may turn out to be very silly and unbelievable, especially considering the general tone of the story I’m going for.

Or, now that I’m thinking about it, maybe it also can work in a ‘Hannibal Lecter’-kinda way, where the assassin RO is caught at some point, but they’re around and you interact with them either for bits of advice, to interrogate, or in any other… ways :eyes: (knowing the CoGites).

If I may, what are your thoughts on this?

Maybe you could still make it work, you know, that bomb analogy thing. The character doesn’t know when the player does.

You have a good sense of tone here that suggests to me that you would do good work with whimsy.

Yeah, it’s possible to pull this off, but I’d have to be wary about the fact that it’s a CYOA book, where you make the choices for the MC, and, well, some players might be a bit disappointed that they don’t get to make a certain choice that would be absurd without the meta-knowledge.

But perhaps I’m overthinking this. Don’t know.

New concepts came to mind:

A Forgotten Veteran

Last thing you remember was an artillery shell that landed nearby your position. When you wake up, the civil war is over and a “peace” treaty is signed between North and South Borealis. Problem is, you don’t remember which country you served under. You have no idea if you woke up in your or enemy’s country, no one does, in fact. Regardless, you’re given a new ID card and expected to serve the country you’re in.

It’s going to be randomized whether you belonged to North/South Borealis and whether you wake up in your/enemy country.

Path to Redemption

You, as a high ranked member of an organization, believe your current organization’s leader is corrupt and you join their right hand person to coup them. Then you discover that the actual corrupt person is the right hand and you come forward with everything. Despite that, you’re found guilty of High Treason and promptly executed…

Except, you wake up. Your entire body has been changed to the opposite gender, your face too. You can’t recognize yourself anymore. Then the leader comes and explains everything: They gave you a new chance to regain trust through serving from beginning, but extensive surgery were needed to make sure they don’t recognize you.

Those are won’t be developed for a loong time, but still wondering if any of them are interesting to y’all

Hey everyone :waving_hand: Finally gotten around the idea of making my own Choicescript story. I’ve already gotten lots of attention on Tumblr—and was just wondering if anyone be would be interested in my first IF on here.

Without furthur ado…

(It’s pretty long bear with me)

BLOOD AND IRON (B&I) is a compelling and mature action interactive fiction, created for an adult audience. Inspired by gritty classics like Batman, John Wick, Ninja Assassin, The Punisher, and The Equalizer, this story contains explicit language, intense violence, gore, psychological stress, themes of trauma, abuse, and disturbing content. Reader discretion is advised.

PLOT

Chicago, 1994.

Chicago bleeds quietly these days. Not in the headlines, but in basements, behind unmarked doors, in the flicker of broken streetlamps, no proper badge patrols.

The world didn’t ask if you were ready. It just kept turning and grinding down the soft parts until only the sharp edges remained.

Raised in a hidden facility outside Chicago, you were one of many children. An experiment in obedience, efficiency, and silence. They didn’t call it a home. They called it a program. And you survived it.

Barely.

They stripped your name. Trained your body. Broke your will, up until they didn’t.

You escaped.

The world didn’t know what to do with you.

But he did—the man who saved you, giving you a name, cover, and a second chance dressed up as a normal life.

By day, you blend seamlessly into the crowd, adopting a new name and working a steady job making pizzas. To the citizens of South Chicago, you’re just another face on the street.

But by night, you take on a different role—one that cleans up the shadows left by a broken system: dismantling organ trafficking rings, confronting human traffickers, and bringing to justice those killers shielded by power or wealth.

But this isn’t just an act of heroism on your part.

It’s personal.

You’re digging through the filth of this city, tearing up every buried secret, because somewhere beneath it all lies the truth.

The Facility.

And the man who ran it.

Whitaker.

He’s not on any official record—and the place that you escaped from doesn’t exist on paper.

But you remember the rooms. The drills. The screaming. The numbers burned into your skin like a barcode.

Every body you drop might be connected. Every whisper might lead back to him.

You’re not a hero.

You’re a survivor searching for the ghost of the man who made you—and the trail of blood he left behind.

The closer you get, the more unstable everything becomes—your past, your purpose, his goal.

You can follow orders. Break free. Burn it all down. But one question echoes through every silence:

Who will you become when you finally reach the end?

Hi Hoshi, welcome to the forum! Just to let you know that WIP threads require a demo, so I’ve moved your post to the interest check thread instead which is for ideas/pre-demo stories - feel free to create a WIP thread once you’re ready to share one. Best of luck with your project!

Hello everyone! I am thinking of writing a British line officers perspective in a battle of the war of the first coalition. It’d be pretty short considering this would be the first one i’ve ever done/written. Got inspired by seeing a bit of a rise in these line battle type games and honestly can’t get enough so figured i’d try my hand on one. Thanks!

Looks pretty interesting, love gritty, action packed stories with cool worldbuilding and ROs like you have here!

And I will see it through till it is

Hello, I’ve been lurking and decided to make an account today to share my idea and see if people will be interested in it.

Title: Crumbs of Ivory and Ink

Genres: Dark Academia, Romance, Modern Fantasy

Summary:

At Blythewick Academy — a crumbling, ivy-covered university famed for its alchemy department and the study of ancient runic languages — tradition runs as deep as the roots beneath its ancient halls. Students whisper of secret societies, ghost-haunted libraries, and faculty who dabble in powers far older than its recorded history.

None, however, are more infamous than the Macadamian Circle: an elite, enigmatic club known for their extravagant midnight tea parties where every course is a puzzle, and every dessert comes laced with secrets.

You never intended to join them. But an unsigned invitation arrives — gold-inked, perfumed, impossible to ignore. Curiosity leads you into their gilded gatherings of candlelight and masks, where whispered toasts hide veiled threats and sugar-dusted confections conceal deadly truths. Their signature offering? The exquisite, melt-in-your-mouth white chocolate macadamia cookies, the symbol of their inner circle.

But by the time you realize your cookie has been poisoned, it’s already too late. You have six months to unravel the Circle’s web of old money rivalries, cursed bloodlines, and ancient, outlawed magic — or become just another name in Blythewick’s long history of scandal and quiet murder.

To survive, you’ll have to outwit the liars, seduce the ambitious, and awaken long-dormant powers of your own… before the next feast is held, and your place at the table becomes permanent.

Features:

  • Experience life as a freshman at Blythewick Academy.
  • Takes place in a fantasy world with modern technology and where magic isn’t a secret.
  • Customize your character’s appearance, physique, gender and pronoun, and personality to create your own unique experience.
  • Build relationships and romance two available ROs.
  • Choose your major. There will be at least six majors to choose from. They include Alchemy, Ancient Runes, Forensic Magical Sciences, Elementalism, Martial Magic, and Healing.
  • Join one of three houses, determined by your academy entrance interview.
  • Choose an extracurricular club that will enhance your academic experience.

The Clubs include:

  • The Dream Coven: a society of illusion mage specialists that teach others how to create and share dreamscapes

  • The Cuisine Coven: a collection of people who share their secrets in baking, cooking, brewing magic, or other kitchenery witchery.

  • The Cassette Coven: A collective of creative musical mages who find pleasure in songwriting, jamming, collecting albums, and producing thematic mixtapes. Though many members dabbled in digital production, the Cassette Coven mainly favors analog equipment. Less complicated to enchant.

  • The Sanctuary: A volunteer organization that helps rehabilitate cursed or corrupted creatures, dealing with the moral complexity of magic. They don’t just care for animals, they also help reintegrate magical beasts back into wild environments after rescue.

Notes:

  • Just want to clarify something about the plot. In the main plot, the protagonist gets poisoned. This is unavoidable. i was envisioning that the person who did it, did it for the reason of having blackmail material over them. So in order to get the antidote, the mc has to do what they say. This also explains why the mc doesnt die right away, the mc is sort of expected to follow the instructions if they want to live.
  • Edited the extracurricullar section. Added some clubs and deleted some. Added more detail on what it is about, as well.

Always love a good magic fantasy story set in an academy/school. Plus we get housed based on the entrance interview? Sign me up. I’d love to check this out once a demo is out! Hoping we get to actually attend class/subjects of our choice with exams and stuff.

This sounds like it could be a delightfully whimsical mystery story. Do you intend on striking a more comedic tone, or are you aiming for something a little darker? I could see this working very well with a mix of both.

I’m glad you like what I have so far. The classes (or majors) will be a huge component to the story. I plan for there to be more hands-on exams where you prove your knowledge in the field.

Tbh, I was worried people would be tired of magical school stories. So I’m really glad to receive some positive reception.

I intend it to have a more dark tone in some parts and more light-hearted tone in some parts. Don’t intend comedy since I’m not very good at humor. Thank your for your interest and comment, btw. Its encouraging that you like what I have so far.

I’ve been looking into the romance paths of this story and I ended up creating 4 love interests, two women, two men. It was double my initial proposal, but I feel its better this way.

Here are the Romanceable Characters so far:

Gulavi Khaledian - Female - Forensic Science Student
Traits: Calm energy, creative, extroverted, responsible, diplomatic, empathetic, elegant, graceful. Wants to be a detective.
Looks: Wavy black hair, black eyes, medium brown skin. (Arabian/Kurdish-coded.)
Tropes: Royal romance. (Gulavi is a princess of her country. She is third-in-line and is very happy to let her brother lead the country. She intends to run the nation’s spy network eventually.)

Phoebe Balaska - Female - Elementalism Student
Traits: Nerdy, outsider, aloof, cynic, independent.
Looks: Rectangular, black framed glasses, straight blonde hair pulled into a messy bun, tanned skin, and light green eyes. (Greek-coded)
Trope: Rivals to Lovers. You have a history of being rivals with her and don’t tend to get along.

Raphael Abbadelli - Male - Ancient Runes student
Traits: Nerdy, brooding, aloof with a dark side.
Looks: pale skin, dark brown curly hair, hazel eyes, glasses. (Italian coded)
Tropes: Dark Childhood Friends to Lovers, Stalkerish themes

Unnamed - Male - Healing Professor
Looks: dark brown skin, trimmed short black hair, and dark brown eyes, stubble, dimples. (Black/African coded)
Traits: Down to earth, affable and personable, humble, introverted.
Tropes: Professor-Student Relationship, Forbidden Love, Single Parent Romance

Please let me know what you think! I hope everyone can find someone who’s route interests them.

What you have shown so far is promising so looking forward to seeing what you give us once a demo is ready.

An understandable the fear but its not saturated in my opinion to the point it doesnt have interest lol exspecially since not a lot of active demos that share school like themes of this nature.

Im exspecislly interested in how the interactions between characters are handled.

Ooh, I’m always a fan of magical school stories where the school part is emphasized, and this sounds like a good setup. I assume that the MC’s performance at the academy is one of the stats the player is balancing, along with progressing relationships and solving the Macadamian Circle’s puzzles?

Yes, exactly.
