Hi COG community,
Obligatory long time lurker, first time poster comment. I’ve recently dreamed up two game concepts that I would like opinions on.
Herokiller Inc.
“With nobody to keep them in check, the first Manifests used their powers for petty greed, lording their newfound abilities over those without. The world, thrown into disarray by this incomprehensible change, had no response.
Like wolves being introduced into an ecosystem to cull an invasive population, the first superheroes appeared shortly after. Thus, a new era of the eternal push and pull of order and chaos began.
But who keeps the heroes in check? What happens when society’s protectors get too greedy, too arrogant?
You. You happen.”
Synopsis:
Play as an elite agent of the most wanted agency in the world! As a Herokiller, you’ll go on death-defying missions to punish those who seek to use their status to abuse the weak. From greedy CEOS to superpowered criminals that could kill you with a punch, you’ll serve them all your version of justice… or vengeance.
Just remember: defeat is not an option.
This game takes place in modern society in a world where superpowers are a recent development, somewhere from twenty to thirty years ago. A person gains or ‘manifests’ superpowers in times of intense need or desire in what’s called a ‘manifestation point’. I’m hoping that this will have themes of power dynamics, the definition of strength, what it means to be responsible and a variety of others.
Biting off more than I can chew? never!
Features
- Pick from one of four powers, ranging from Ability Mimicry to Enhanced Combat Intuition.
- Choose your motivation for being a Herokiller.
- A unique combat system: some powers work better in certain situations than others!
- A story where the stakes constantly escalate. Nothing ever stays the same in this business.
- Be a badass.
- Get your shit rocked by other badasses.
Primary inspirations: Parahumans (was it obvious? :P) UnOrdinary, The Boys, John Wick
Stratus Institute for Higher Magical Learning
“You blast him with a wave of fire, and he walks right through, because of course he does. You conjure a spike to punch through his heart and he regenerates in an instant, because of course he does. When he’s a foot away, you spit acid directly in his face, and he ignores it, because of course he does. You’re hit suddenly with a collision a thousand times stronger than any punch should be and rocket a dozen meters away, landing unceremoniously with an accompanying cloud of dust.
You get back up, because of course you do.”
Synopsis
Play as a magical prodigy down on their luck! As a first-year student at Stratus Institute, you’ll balance classes, dueling competitions, newfound fame, and your social life, all while being blackmailed!
Oh, and the end of the world. But that’s more of a background thing.
This story takes place in a world where magic is widespread and limited in the same time, in that anyone can use magic but obtaining a higher understanding of magic takes an intense amount of learning that is mostly reserved for the upper class. You play as a young mage, poor but gifted, forced into joining the Stratus Institute’s dueling team in exchange for a proper education.
Is this a poorly-disguised rant about my opinions on class disparity in higher education? …maybe?
Features
- (Another) unique combat system
- Choose your magical specialty, or be a jack of all trades
- Investigate three different mysteries that all point to the same conclusion
- Be a badass (again)
- Get your shit rocked by other badasses (again)
Primary inspirations: Jujutsu Kaisen, Pale (I like Wildbow, okay?) Avatar: TLA/LOK
The stories aren’t wholly fleshed out, but the worlds largely are. I’ll probably only have time to work on one, so opinions on which one you’d like to see more, if at all, are appreciated. I’m aware neither of these stories break the mold as far as uniqueness in IF games, so let me know if there’s something you’d like to see.
Thanks!
