So I’ve been working on my past idea. I edited the main concept just a bit (its mostly the same) and finally added some love interests.

Summary

A Love So Haunted
Romance, Supernatural, Murder Mystery, Slice of Life

You, a twenty-eight year old average paper pusher, can see dead people. They won’t leave you alone until you resolve their unfinished business with the living.

But Anjali/Aadhan, the hot ghost haunting your beautiful new house, doesn’t seem to need your help. Which is a relief, because you have just moved from Moorsholm, New York to Edenbrooke, South Carolina, and you plan to start fresh. Not only in your love life—by deepening your relationship with your romantic partner—but also in your professional life as well, by starting a small bed and breakfast in Edenbrooke.

However, when your partner dumps you, all your plans come crashing down. Worse still, during your opening night, a group of strangers gathers at your bed and breakfast for a weekend retreat, only to find themselves trapped when a storm hits. Later on, you discover that one of the guests has been murdered. As tensions rise and secrets are revealed, you must discover the identity of the murderer among them before it’s too late.

That said, the main changes to the concept are the MC and their love interests…

MC changes:

  • The MC used to work as an accountant in a hotel.
  • The MC lives in the US, but has a South Korean heritage. This is going to be an important plot point later. At least one parent has to be South Korean, the ethnicity of the other parent is left to the reader’s discretion.
Love Interests

Song Hyun-seo/Hee-yeon, the Grim Reaper RO

  • world-weary, quiet, sweet-tooth, old-fashioned, very by-the-rules.
  • Tropes: fated/starstruck/doomed lovers, reincarnation, past life

Anjali/Aadhan Patal, the Ghost

  • They are the ghost haunting your new home.
  • They used to be a Concierge.
  • Affable, dependable, kind, and loyal.
  • Tropes: friends to lovers

Marcel/Marguerite Ravensdale, the Detective

  • Workaholic grump with a poorly hidden heart of gold.
  • Suspicious of you at first.

Ellis/Elena Visconti, the Hotel Manager

  • charming, charismatic type
  • Despite what their reputation and personality might suggest, they don’t tend to date much.
  • Massively talented and comfortably wealthy.

Kaname/Kanae Yomatsuri, the Exorcist

  • Ruthless. Secretive. Lonely. Intrigued by you.
  • They come from a clan of Japanese exorcists. Their clan is reputed to be unscrupulous and ruthless, so everyone in the exorcist community views them with suspicion.
  • They also tend to have this aura of someone shady, even without doing anything. Most people stay away from them.

But anyway, just want to know if the love interests sound okay and if the MC being ethnically South Korean bothers anybody… I know it limits character creation a tad, but I think it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Here’s a brief interest check.

It’s been a long-held dream of mine to do a game based on The Wizard of Oz books.
They’re fairy tales for kids, but there’s a lot of deranged stuff in there I’d like to share with more people, such as

  • Subterranean, invisible killer bears
  • The Nome King, who turns people into furniture
  • The tube that leads to an advanced civilization on the other side of Earth (they are often mad about people putting things into their tube)
  • The Scoodlers, who throw their own heads at people to stun them and chop them up with knives
  • Two couches taped together and brought to life with magic (it wishes for death)
  • And much more!

This stuff isn’t well known since most people only know the movie, but I feel it’s worth sharing.

It would make a great setting for a grand adventure, and I can even match the books’ style somewhat. But would it be appealing? It’s pretty wacky, and I’m not yet sure what structure would work best in terms of Choice of Games.

That sounds so cool! I would love to see a game like this.

Isn’t that all just Return to Oz, though? It may be a bit too close if you plan on completing and publishing on Hosted Games. I think you should check out both the movie and the novelisation of it to make certain you’re not skirting too close to a copyrighted work.

Return to Oz: A Novel Return to Oz: A Novel: Vinge, Joan D.: 9780345322074: Amazon.com: Books

That’s a good point. I know the 14 core Oz books are public domain, but I’m not sure how this movie changes that. It’s a mashup of books 2 and 3. I should have given more 4-and-onward examples!

Anyways the game would be set after the events of the core series, so it wouldn’t be a plot rehash. The original concept was that the player would be one of the more hostile creatures on a mission to Oz, so the land’s inhabitants would be working against you. That’s very different from the normal plot of an Oz story. The only question would be whether Return to Oz somehow refreshes the copyright.

Ah. I would ordinarily say probably not (and it does sound fun!) but in this case, you’re dealing with potentially going up against a Disney property, and we all know how they are about things.

(Also, if you’re on Oz fan, Namesake has some fun takes on the stories. Namesake -)

Anyone interested in a game where you play as a paranormal investigator.

You play as a person who believes in athe paranormal or a skeptic.

You’ll encounter both human and animal ghosts and spirits, evil and vengeful spirits, shadow figures, and demons and learn their backstories.

You’ll have the chance to use paranormal detection devices.

You’ll get a chance to travel the world and travel to different haunted locations both abandened and non abandened locations.

That sounds like it could be pretty fun. But how would playing a skeptic work? You’d think you’d stop being a skeptic after the second or third mythological creature.

What Im thinking about over throughout the game depending on the player’s choices, you can remain stubborn despite the evidence or you can accept that paranormal exists(In game)early in the game, but regardless at the end of the game, the MC will believe in the paranormal by the of the game because of the evidence.Since I havent started working on the game,if you have any suggestions,Id be happy to consider it

Well, alright. Here are a couple ideas you can play around with.

  • It sounds like your concept is loosely based on The X-Files. If not, you should watch it immediately, it’s really good. If so, you could incorporate some elements from there to add skepticism without being a skeptic yourself. Like a skeptical partner, or an organization or company you work for that will pay you to disprove paranormal activity.
  • Instead of believer/skeptic, you could have the player choose a type of investigator. For example, an Empathetic investigator who tries to understand the creatures’ feelings, or a Technological investigator who relies on devices to track and subdue them.
  • A skeptic investigator would make a good comedy story. Someone who always comes up with mundane explanations for supernatural phenomenon. You could even make it a player choice with a benefit - staying skeptical is hard to do, but if you manage it you could get a bonus against dark magic, illusions, and mind control.

While Im more leaning into the real world kind of paranomal investigations, but I will try to incorporate some of your suggestions. Also,I appreciate your suggestions.

I had this idea for an arranged marriage game set in a contemporary world. So I wanted to see what people think of it. I have 2 love interests so far, but I will add more. Up to five.

Book Lovers (Romance, Drama, Slice of Life)

You are the CEO and founder of a start-up company called Goblin Hoard that specializes in selling ebooks. Your success in the industry comes with a cost: relentless pressure from your family to secure a strategic marriage that will strengthen the family’s power and legacy.

Will you follow your family’s wishes and pursue an arranged marriage with a suitable heir or resist the pressure and forge your own path to love and success?

Love Interests

Rigel/Rose Knightley, Your arranged marriage partner
Regal. Aloof. Composed.
Age: 32 years old
Looks: long, silky sky blue hair tied back in a ponytail, translucent porcelain skin, silver grey eyes with dark circles under them, black-framed glasses, black tattoos in their arms.

Personality: Rigel/Rose carries themselves with quiet confidence, speaking only when necessary but commanding attention when they do. Their aloof demeanor and resting bitch face often make them seem unapproachable, but it’s more a shield than a reflection of their true self.

Hi COG community,
Obligatory long time lurker, first time poster comment. I’ve recently dreamed up two game concepts that I would like opinions on.

Herokiller Inc.

“With nobody to keep them in check, the first Manifests used their powers for petty greed, lording their newfound abilities over those without. The world, thrown into disarray by this incomprehensible change, had no response.
Like wolves being introduced into an ecosystem to cull an invasive population, the first superheroes appeared shortly after. Thus, a new era of the eternal push and pull of order and chaos began.
But who keeps the heroes in check? What happens when society’s protectors get too greedy, too arrogant?
You. You happen.”

Synopsis:
Play as an elite agent of the most wanted agency in the world! As a Herokiller, you’ll go on death-defying missions to punish those who seek to use their status to abuse the weak. From greedy CEOS to superpowered criminals that could kill you with a punch, you’ll serve them all your version of justice… or vengeance.
Just remember: defeat is not an option.

This game takes place in modern society in a world where superpowers are a recent development, somewhere from twenty to thirty years ago. A person gains or ‘manifests’ superpowers in times of intense need or desire in what’s called a ‘manifestation point’. I’m hoping that this will have themes of power dynamics, the definition of strength, what it means to be responsible and a variety of others.
Biting off more than I can chew? never!

Features
  • Pick from one of four powers, ranging from Ability Mimicry to Enhanced Combat Intuition.
  • Choose your motivation for being a Herokiller.
  • A unique combat system: some powers work better in certain situations than others!
  • A story where the stakes constantly escalate. Nothing ever stays the same in this business.
  • Be a badass.
  • Get your shit rocked by other badasses.

Primary inspirations: Parahumans (was it obvious? :P) UnOrdinary, The Boys, John Wick

Stratus Institute for Higher Magical Learning

“You blast him with a wave of fire, and he walks right through, because of course he does. You conjure a spike to punch through his heart and he regenerates in an instant, because of course he does. When he’s a foot away, you spit acid directly in his face, and he ignores it, because of course he does. You’re hit suddenly with a collision a thousand times stronger than any punch should be and rocket a dozen meters away, landing unceremoniously with an accompanying cloud of dust.
You get back up, because of course you do.”

Synopsis
Play as a magical prodigy down on their luck! As a first-year student at Stratus Institute, you’ll balance classes, dueling competitions, newfound fame, and your social life, all while being blackmailed!
Oh, and the end of the world. But that’s more of a background thing.

This story takes place in a world where magic is widespread and limited in the same time, in that anyone can use magic but obtaining a higher understanding of magic takes an intense amount of learning that is mostly reserved for the upper class. You play as a young mage, poor but gifted, forced into joining the Stratus Institute’s dueling team in exchange for a proper education.
Is this a poorly-disguised rant about my opinions on class disparity in higher education? …maybe?

Features
  • (Another) unique combat system
  • Choose your magical specialty, or be a jack of all trades
  • Investigate three different mysteries that all point to the same conclusion
  • Be a badass (again)
  • Get your shit rocked by other badasses (again)

Primary inspirations: Jujutsu Kaisen, Pale (I like Wildbow, okay?) Avatar: TLA/LOK

The stories aren’t wholly fleshed out, but the worlds largely are. I’ll probably only have time to work on one, so opinions on which one you’d like to see more, if at all, are appreciated. I’m aware neither of these stories break the mold as far as uniqueness in IF games, so let me know if there’s something you’d like to see.
Thanks!

I like the magic one

The magical one appeals the most to me.

I have to agree that the magic one seems more interesting

Long time lurker here, but I recently made an account because an idea struck me. Wanted to check if anyone is interested in it

Tale of the Spare(tentative name)

As the second child of the royal family, your father didn’t value you that much, especially when your older brother turned out to be a promising heir. It seemed, for a while, you were destined to a typical spare’s life- married off to someone you had never met, traded off like a bargaining chip.

But everything changed when the Conqueror invaded. Your father was slain in battle, and you, the spare, were taken to the Conqueror’s capital as a hostage. The new king planned to wed you to one of his cousins in the name of securing an alliance. But you knew better: he planned to have your brother killed off so he could plant one of his own on your family’s throne.

In your old ancestral castle, a secret letter was drafted. Your brother plotted for independence, and he wished to ask for your help. Perhaps you could aid him by undermining the Conqueror from within, but what after? He might view you as a pawn like your father did- and throw you away. Perhaps you could expose him to the Conqueror instead, and return home as your ancestral land’s rightful ruler. But with one of his cousins at your side, you wondered if your rule would be long. Perhaps there was a secret third way, one that saw you crowned and your enemies humbled. If only you could find it…

Confirmed ROs (Well, not exactly ROs, because there is an element of manipulation involved):

  • The Cousin (Their gender will be opposite to yours)

They are the Conqueror’s cousin and your betrothed. Although you have lived in the capital for a while, you seldom interacted with them, other than for a few dances and garden walks. The impression you had of them was courteous and reserved, and they didn’t seem vile or power-hungry as the Conqueror’s other relatives. But you also knew better than to trust one who shared his blood.

  • The Bodyguard (gender selectable)

Although they were called a “guard”, it was but a euphemism for “jailor”. The Conqueror had the knight following you around to ensure you would never escape, and, for a while, their presence had irked you to no end. But recently, you wondered if their loyalty could be swayed, if you managed to play your cards right…

  • The Envoy(gender-selectable)

You weren’t the only victim of the Conqueror’s lust for world domination. The neighbouring empire, one that was well past its prime, was wary of the Conqueror’s rampage and sent an agent here to gather information under the guise of an envoy. The envoy in question seemed to be an excellent player of the court’s game, and they could be a valuable ally to have should a war break out. Perhaps you could persuade the envoy of the threat the Conqueror posed, and together, with your brother’s army, you could take the Conqueror down.

That sounds really interesting. I hope you decide to write it, I’d certainly love to play it.

I’ve been toying with some ideas lately.

Suppose there was a game where you played as an alien on vacation at a luxury space station.

Would it be more appealing for the aliens to be mainly humanoid, or to take on a variety of forms?

On top of that, if romance was a factor, should the alien races be attracted to one another, or should they mainly stick to their own species?
