This sounds interesting! I’ve wanted to do a story in ancient Japan and Geisha, but I haven’t gotten a good idea yet. So I’m very excited to read one.
On the Geisha note, they started out as men and then transitioned into being women. So I think it’s entirely possible for there to be both in this point of time in this world. (Even if it wasn’t, this is more fantasy anyway).
For the ROs, I don’t mind complicated dynamics. Though I am curious about how you’ll manage to make the two routes feel different, since they’re kinda similar

This is something I’m definitely thinking about! I’ve been mulling over about the project a lot but there’s still a ways to go with developing the two ROs. I’ve wanted to make them foils to each other with opposing backgrounds and motives, so I’m feeling that out. :]
I am planning A rewrite and expansion on my old WIP, to the point where it will be considered a new project.
As not to break expectations, I wanted to float my prospective paths by those few whom remember Freak: ATNL.
It was a very super-hero inspired project to which I wish to maintain the universe and characters.
I intend to retain the universe as is but take a slightly darker turn in an alternate path with the MC colloquially known as ‘First’.
For those not in the know about ye olde WIP it took on the perspective of the literally silent Protagonist from which you step into the shoes of beginning in a science lab and the events that lead you to a neon tourist City raised from the bottom of the sea filled with heroes and Villain battling for peace justice and Fame along side bitter divisions between those Born with powers (Freaks a.k.a. those whom have been born with Darwin’s syndrome) and those that work for large corporations that have bought and bargained their way into superpowered status.
First was to arrive on the scene with a flash and fire, and thanks to the Ruby Shapeshifter/Villain?/buddy Silic that day came in the form of a plane crash in our neon playground.
That was the original premise and introduction without spoiling the fun details between if you haven’t played it.
My intention with Freak: Falling Awake,(working title) Is to take the current universe and characters and create a pre-apocalyptic world (things are wild but everything still works).
Without spoiling what plots I intend, there may be the option to have ‘origins’ they may alter the entire course of events that have occured, in a ‘mirror darkly’ kinda way.
I’d like to get questions if you’re worried about me changing something you loved in the original, in fact I’d like to try to maintain those aspects but reintroduce them, but its been forever and its an intimidating project. Feel free to DM me if you’ve got a thread derailing question or query I’m happy to answer. I just don’t want to spoil any of you whom prefer the “Just surprise me.” Method.
I’m not sure what the premise would be but seeing that this universe is not so dead fills me with hope of embodying an MC that was the product of a laboratory.
Well, the main change is I would like our Experimentee to escape of their own volition as opposed to being randomly dropped out of the sky.
Also, perhaps meet some other individuals. Like some of the main cast meeting the MC inside the lab for instance. Or on their way out. An early bonding experience lol
If you want to release it for free, you might have to do this under hobby projects. I did ask HG about releasing a fully non-commercial game once, but it was a no-go.
Fantasy is a more popular genre here, so if it’s interest you’re looking for, that might be the way to go.
But these days, I’ve seen more people trying to push out slice of life WIPs, so there might be increasing interest in this genre on the forums, but I can’t say whether this applies to the Hosted Games marketplace.
Anyway, writing is tough. Pick what you enjoy writing first.
It’s funny to see you say ‘few’ like that game doesn’t get mentioned every week in the ‘Bring back from the dead’ thread. Seeing a possible comeback is an insanely good news
Personally what I really liked was how it was written and handled our main character as well as the feeling of strength you really got from our actions, as long as that’s intact, you can do whatever you want and I’ll be on board
Silic was neat but we didn’t really spend enough time with the rest of the cast for me to really judge them so I guess you can feel free to do whatever on that level.
Another thing I really liked was seeing Silic shapeshit in real time to fit our preference, even if they always seemed more like a woman to me (maybe I’m just biased due to the Mystic connection).
Don’t think I have much else to say except I am very much interested.
It’s a change that could work but it raise a lot of questions like: Why now and not before? Why do you even assume the outside would be any different since the lab is all you knew? Where are you going after escaping, why and how do you even know?
The advantage with the random air drop was that it was someone else’s plan and they were in a position to know all those things and even control where you’d end up without you needing to actually know anything so you can start learning once free.
That’s interesting but I feel it could take away from the ‘uniqueness’ and ‘solitude’ aspects of the lab prologue, since at the end of the day, despite some of the doctors basically being your parents, you were a lab rat and when there were no tests going on, you were just alone, with mostly people who didn’t even see you as human and that played a lot into your motivations and why it could make sense for you to just jump into a shady situation just to see the doctor who was essentially your mom.
Making connections while still in the lab would take away from that IMO and it would also make the lab seem a lot less secret and thus raise questions of ‘how come X didn’t know about a powerful Freak like you? If Y could be there, then surely they had access to enough info’

Though the introduction to other characters in or beyond the walls of the lab setting is something i may play with.
Also consider the lab may be safer than outside for some reason.
It is a European modern Urban Fantasy setting where the Saints keep Demons at bay. Holy Relics are compelling artifacts allowing to “create” Saints.
As the MC, you join a secret organization that wishes to use the Holy Relics to save the world “their way.”
In a world full of sin, what is right? What is wrong? Will you remain in the secret revolutionary sect or join the new Church?
There are many ROs, moral choices, cool fighting, mysteries, demons, and Saints.
What do you think? Would you play it? Would you change something?
How many are we talking about? I think romance in Last Dream was pretty limited. I wanted to romance Midori, although the plot soon made that impossible.
Is this a linear game like Last Dream, or will moral choices create some sort of branching?
What does this mean? Is it just fighting scenes in the narrative, or are you introducing a combat system?
And I will try to make this game even better than the previous one.
