Hey everyone!
Been working on an idea for a fair bit now and I wanted to post some info here, it’s a little bare bones but hope people like the sound of the concept! I can add more details if people are!
The Empire is in turmoil, the Emperor is dead and his only son has ascended to take his place. You are soulsworn, an elite officer in the Imperial army, bound to protect the emperor until your last breath, if you were to fail your cybernetics would terminate and you would die. And die you did, until you woke up.
Now you find yourself aboard the starship Silver Rain, a mercenary vessel running the imperial blockades sealing off the capital. The new Emperor will not suffer loose ends however, for as long as you draw breath his rule is not absolute.
Fully customise your character, from the colour of their eyes to the uniform they wear.
Enlist the help of your new allies, earn their trust or romantic affection as you find out how they came to be where they are.
Explore the fringes of the system, visiting treacherous worlds outside of the Empire’s reach.
Upgrade your body. Your death has left you weak, and the deck is stacked against you. Install cybernetic upgrades to even the odds.
leave your old life behind and become a mercenary, completing dangerous but lucrative contracts across the system.

Sounds interesting!
Wondering what these upgrades do, the drawbacks they have, and if you can even survive without cybernetic upgrades.
100% ready to throw my life away and become a space mercenary. It sounds really interesting so far! Can’t wait to see what the story is like
Also… the son totally killed his dad in order to be the new Emperor, right?
AH we woke up!!! I’m super excited for a space adventure! Also how many upgrades? Are we talking full cyborg?!
Was planning on making it possible to survive without cybernetics but it would make the story tougher, cybernetics will be commonplace and people you go up against will have varying quality and amounts of cybernetics.
They’ll do a lot of things, allow you to pilot a colossus, hack into security networks or just punch through solid steel to name a few.
Your old life will try and catch up with you though! And is it that obvious?
Glad you like the premise though!
Definitely going to have the option to go full cyborg, there may be repercussions if you get carried away though!
I don’t know what a colossus is, but I know that I must have one!
Excited for this! I really like playing part machine part human in sci-fi games, so definitely saving this to follow when it comes out.
So we can play completely human? Would characters react differently if we are completely human with no cybernetics?
Is she a CYBORG?!?
@Yalung
Certain characters will react favorably if you don’t install any cybernetics, one of the RO’s moreso than the other four, they’ll have a reason for that though.
@Empress_Nightmare
Not a cyborg, an android.
Hooray! That sounds awesome, I can’t wait to play it!
What about other upgrades? Are there any nanotech/biological ones too? Those tend to be less outwardly noticeable in fiction, think of JC Denton versus Adam Jensen.
And if yes to cybernetics can the mc choose to only go for subtle ones that are barely noticeable, unless you really know where to look?
Your blurb seems to imply the mc has had cybernetics installed in the past, ones that were supposed to kill them no less. So I assume the rebels or whoever took those out when they stole/kidnapped the mc? Wouldn’t the mc have scars or disfigurements then anyway? Of course if they do I hope they can be healed over the course of the game, as my mc would want to look as good as possible.
Now as to why the cybernetics didn’t completely kill the mc going to speculate now that the mc is either an illegitmate kid of the Emperor and/or a possible “hidden backup”. Would certainly explain the interest possible rebel mercenaries would have in them. As just one old honour guard of his father’s surviving due to malfunctioning cybernetics, especially if said ex honour guard isn’t inclined to brag in public about it would hardly seem a serious enough loose end for the new Emperor to make the whole empire intent on killing them. On the other hand a possible competitor in the form of a sibling, illegitimate or not would be a serious enough loose end to be a potentially serious threat to their reign.
Me: did you die?
MC: sadly, yes… But I LIVED!
Got a list of cybernetics and other upgrades planned, a bunch of them won’t be as invasive as the others and won’t be outwardly obvious that they’re installed.
The MC will have had cybernetics upgrades installed before their death, and they’ll be absent when they wake up. Don’t need to worry about scars though, they won’t be a real problem for the MC, your looks can remain intact!
As for your speculation, I’m not saying anything!
Well, whatever the case I’ll be keeping my eye on this one and hope you post a real demo soon.
Only a tiny bit elite officer certainly sounds a lot better than clone trooper mook. In fact the implants the mc had before their “death” actually sound like a measure to prevent the Empire’s Preatorian officers from getting coup happy, like they occasionally did in the Roman empire.
I love this idea. It kind of gives star wars Vibes with the empire and the mc sounds a bit similar to a clone Trooper.
Just a quick little poll to discern interest in some simple story premises, hopefully for use in a fun little side project. There’s deliberately not much detail to these as the idea is for the stories to grow organically.

why do all of them sound so interesting-
