If I were to write a DC or Marvel fanfic, would any of y’all maybe check it out? I really wish there was a game where you could create a character, select their power-set, choose to be a hero, villain or anti-hero, and jump into one of these fantastic worlds. It doesn’t seem like neither DC or Marvel are going to create something like this for quite some time, so why not do it myself, right? I’d just like to know if anyone would even read it or if I should just keep it to myself.
Whatever the case, just be aware that such a game will not be eligible for publishing via Hosted Games or even independently as it is a privately-owned IP, so it will have to remain a non-profit fanwork.
All that said, a self-insert Marvel/DC fangame would pretty much be my 15 year old self’s biggest dream
so I’d definitely be interested in seeing that @Jakeblinked!
What ideas would you have in terms of a story?
oh shoot maybe you could adapt a popular storyarc to be MC-inclusive??
There will always be an audience for IF people write as tastes are really varied among the community here, granted certain stories are more popular, but if it’s something you’d be genuinely interested in writing then go for it! I’ve never been a massive Marvel or DC fan but a story where you could customise a character in the universe and choose to be a villain? That would be interesting.
I’m not particularly fond of Marvel, but if it is DC I would check it out!
Also, would there be romance? Because I really would like to romance wonder woman
That would definitely have a fan base here, but you should know that if you add the ability to choose your powers and your alignment, it would be SO much work, unless you’re somehow able to work heroes and villains into the same scene, you’d have to write at least twice as much as you would for a story about one or the other.
The actual plot is very much a WIP atm, although I do know that I want the MC to have plenty of interaction with a large variety of either company’s characters. Perhaps if you were to choose the villain path and have a street-level MC, the opportunity to pull a heist with Catwoman/Black Cat would come along, or if you were to choose the hero path and have a divine MC, Wonder Woman/Thor would ask for help to stop a fight between the Gods.
Adapting a comic story into a game is also a great idea! Civil War and Injustice immediately come to mind. But anyway, I’m clearly early into the writing process, so I still have much to figure out. I hope you understand what I’m trying to go for though!
Of course! I couldn’t have all these dummy thicc characters in a game without adding the option to romance them!
Question, what about saying this? lol should I take it out
There is even a mention of MC landing on a pillow with one of their face on it

Alright, remember when I mentioned an idea that garnered a lot of interest like 500 posts back? It was about a magical nation called Altora which you had to save from collapse over a hundred years and multiple characters. This is a sort of half progress update and half micro interest check.
The bad news is that I still don’t have a Choicescript eligible device. I’ve been working on my coding skills regardless.
The good news is that I’ve written a lot of new lore and events for it, and I’m pretty sure I know what I’m going to do with the time system too. All the ROs will naturally become antagonists if you don’t interact with them enough.
RO specifics
- Nyra, scioness k’Allis, is an imperial administrator from a conservative noble family. Her parents originally raised her as bride material but she managed to throw away their wishes for her through academics. She’s cold and pragmatic at first due to her history. She becomes an antagonist as a ruthlessly conservative old official who blocks change at every step.
- Khalene is the child of a dragon and a human mother. They were raised in a cult worshipping Khalene’s father, so Khalene is a bit arrogant when you first meet them. They tend to be adventurous and curious, but also a tad naive. They become an antagonist as a graying sociopath with a messiah complex.
- Harr is a nationalist freedom fighter on the tributary state of Crown’s Gem, known endonymously as Jharai. He’s tough but rough, and will not start out having a high opinion of the MC at all. He becomes an antagonist as a bitter antihero among his people who kills without morals to achieve his goals.
- Docent Rana Tal is a foreign scholar from Zorivas. She’s a bit of a nerd and has arrived to learn all about Altoran culture and magic. She becomes an antagonist as a crony, foreign racist who looks down on Altoran customs.
- Seuti is an ambitious rising star among the Altoran military. He’s charismatic to a fault and mixes equally well with his troops and his superiors. He becomes an antagonist as a rebellious warlord who’s lost hope in the current Altoran government.
My main problem is Khalene? I wanted to add a NB RO for representation’s sake, but I originally decided to not to go for it because I really wouldn’t know how to write such a character and their struggles in the conservative Altoran world.
The solution I came up with is that the offspring of mythical beasts/gods and humans are always sexless and unable to reproduce? That way Khalene wouldn’t be treated weirdly at all for their gender. Is this a good idea? I just wanted to check with the people here before I start writing anything, especially because I admit myself I don’t have much experience with LGBTQ+ culture and history.
It sounds interesting and people here would certainly volunteer to offer their perspective to help you write LGBT stuff
Make a poll
I’m more of a DC guy.
Edit:
ORRR…, write a crossover! ![]()
Writing in references to copyrighted characters is different from writing in copyrighted characters (as in they are actual characters in the work). If it’s just this then you should be fine.
That said, I personally wouldn’t even mention them by name, but that’s more an issue of personal preference than of legality.
Thanks, I will see if I can work around it
I would definitely want to play this
As a non-binary person: it’s usually best not to just throw in a non-binary person for the sake of having one. I would also recommend that if you wish to have a non-binary character, they should be fully human and not restricted from having reproductive organs like the rest of the population. A common and harmful trope in representation of non-binary people is that we are constantly depicted as non-human. If a piece of media elects to have a character with they/them pronouns, they are almost always an alien or supernatural creature of some sort - something non-human. This suggests that non-binary people are in essence not human or less than human. So writing your only non-binary character as a half-dragon who literally cannot have sex would be a major faux pas.
Otherwise, I like your concept! I like the idea that you can pull the characters to your side or be forced to fight against them, and that makes for a really interesting story. I love magical settings, so that’s a big plus. I hope to see more about this in the future, and I’d definitely be interested in checking it out.
I would also like to add that this
suggests gender is exclusively tied to genitals, which is untrue and quite offensive to trans folk.
Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking I really don’t understand this issue well enough, so it’s better if I just don’t make any attempt at it.
Not understanding something is okay! That’s what asking questions are for.
Research can be time-consuming, though. And no representation is better than non-researched representation, imo. But if you’re still interested in adding a NB character, here are some helpful threads around the forum you might want to take a gander at:
Differences in Portrayals of NB/Trans/Cis Characters
Non-human nonbinary characters
Oh, and good luck with End of an Empire. The setting sounds pretty neat, and I like the idea of trying to stop the decline of a beleaguered nation. Playing one character that leads to another is also an interesting concept.
Thanks for the resources! I’ve already been asking a lot of people in other forums and Discords, and such. There’s been a lot of helpful people, but it’s kind of clear I’m really ignorant on the topic. I’m not really comfortable writing an enby character yet, but I think that’s just inherent prejudices and lack of experience. I’ll practice with it a bit and see if I can normalize it for myself!
I just think it would be really cool thats all. I’m not a programmer in the slightest so I could never make it but I just wanted to put the idea out there for anyone that likes the concept and would wanna do it
Imagine choosing your profession which dictates the priorit your given, imagine having to manage your reputation so they don’t kick you out or kill you while cults form due to the crazy people who have been underground too long . Imagine learning that the bunker is slowly failing and deciding weather to save yourself and damn everyone else or let them know and panic the bunker.
This has never been done on a choice gane before and I dont recall it ever being done in gaming in general. Might be wrong about that though. Either way its a pretty unexplored concept so hopefully I kickstarted any creative writers to pursue jt!!
