Interest Check Thread

Well of course the president would be a fictional one, I don’t think using real names is allowed anyway.

As for the storyline,
I’ve thought about 4 different endings so far? Of course it will all depend on the stats, for example a merciless, cold hearted killer vs a person doubting their choices ; a team player or a lone wolf. I’m planning many twists in the plot but yeah, the story does ultimately all lead to an epic faceoff haha.

Hello again!

First of all, I’d like to thank you all for the response I’ve gotten to the interest check, it’s something that made me immensely happy

Second, as The Phantom Project has gotten the most votes out of all of them (62%? That’s, like, 53 people?? I’m just ~insert surprised pikachu meme~), I’ve closed the poll and made a WIP page on tumblr for it, so, anyone who’s interested in following the progress while the game’s not yet on the forum (I’m planning on putting it up on the 25th), feel free to drop by and ask questions and/or give suggestions!

Now, for those of you who weren’t interested in the project and/or would’ve liked to see another one first, don’t worry! I’m still writing them, they’re just not my top priority. I’ll get to posting them. Eventually. Hopefully.

After a lot of life complications, I feel like it’s worth trying to get back into another (poorly)thought out plan for writing something. Thinking about what really sets me back in trying to write, I determined that what trips me up is having ideas, but not having any direction of what to do with them(A few of my older ideas, I’m currently converting into actual books, I’ll probably never finish, for those wondering.) To alleviate the issues of not knowing where I should go with.

Originally going along with my plans of making a story featuring body change over the time, in the form of human chimera hybrids, I’ve determined that the best setting for it would be to go along with the era of witch trials and witch hunting. Now this beckons a few questions of what to make polls about.

The first is a question that I feel like is fundamental to knowing where and how things should go. What is the generally preferred style to reading stories that you prefer?

  • First Person, present
  • First Person, past
  • Second Person, present
  • Second Person, past

On the second note, relating to the project itself, if things are going to work, it needs to be with a clearly thought out plan of how things should be. In a situation between hunters and witches, which is the generally preferred side to be on? Obviously, everything is subject to change later, but since things need a starting base, it’s important to know where people would generally want to be. My original thought was for a professor who is mostly the support between factions while pursuing their own independent interests, but I suspect it’s possibly it’s a thing that would only be interesting to me. So, in order to open things up a bit, I want to see where people feel like it would be best to go through things as.

If you’re going to pick a side to be on or a perspective to start things with, which feels the best to you?

  • The Witch Hunter
  • The Professor
  • The Witch
  • Just someone trying not to die

My general idea with asking these questions is to change my greatest issue of having absolutely no idea what to do with things. Having a clear plan of what to do is obviously helpful, and it follows that knowing what people want with it, makes the direction better. Once I can figure that out, I might actually be able to properly accomplish something.

I would prefer stay at the middle ground without have to support one of the factions, and that I would have a chance to sabotage both of them. But that’s just me though…

There’s an idea that I’m mulling over that I’d like to get some thoughts on.

I’m not good with summaries, so to put it simply, you’ve crash landed on an island and must work with those around you to gather resources and find a way to get off, while also trying to figure out the weirdness going on with the island (I’ve only seen like, half of the first season of Lost so any similarities are not intended). In particular, a potentially dangerous tribe with some very dangerous secrets.

Intended as a romance.

Something that I’ve also been thinking of is, rather than crash landing on an island, instead it’s a planet, and the ‘tribe’ is aliens. But I’m not sure yet.

I think the crash landing idea is interesting, but I’m not sure how you’re going to be able to make a game like this a romance heavy game. Generally, games that are focused on resource management are pretty lacking on the romance part, usually because the author focuses more on the resource management than the character building. I’m not saying it’s not possible, but maybe instead of the whole resource management thing, the MC could be part of a group of people that have broken off from the main party (either they left on their own or were given a mission) and they have to go investigate the strange stuff. This would also just increase the stakes, as there would be more life or death situations without hope of rescue from the rest of the group.

As for the planet crash landing idea, that could work and be interesting. The same thing I said above applies here. My only other concern with this idea is, since this is a romance focused game, would be the aliens themselves. I’m not sure what other people think, but for me, romance and aliens don’t really go together, mostly because of the whole “to romance or not to romance” thing that comes with aliens. That’s just a personal thing though.

I get what you mean. I suppose when it comes to ‘resource management’ I would probably do it more like going through detailed events, likely with specific characters to raise relationships, rather than ‘go out and collect x’ if that makes sense.

On the alien thing, I had in mind that you could romance both the aliens or the humans that came with you, so at least if they weren’t interested in the alien aspect, it wouldn’t completely block them from the romance.

Heya! Though I already have a WIP posted here (Memoir of Smoke and Mirrors), I’m thinking of doing another one. I actually tend to be more productive multitasking this kind of thing. I have a few ideas in mind but I plan to go with only one right now. Titles are tentative because thinking about titles is hard AF.

LF: Wild Hunt Leader

Summary:
You’re one of the few individuals born with Glamour Cognitive Dysfunction, a rare condition wherein the person (you, in this case) cannot process magical stimuli normally, causing visual and auditory hallucinations. You’ve been dealing with this for as long as you can remember, so you’re not really surprised when that face on the wall starts talking to you every time you go to the hospital lobby. Neither do you blink an eye when the sky turns green nor pay attention to the hellhound that keeps on following you around. After all, they’re all in your head. Right?

Well, that’s what you think until your brother points that dog out to you—and suddenly you realize who’s actually emptying out the fridge.

Things get weirder when a horned, red-haired man wearing a suit and animal-head epaulets on a cape appears and tells you you’re the lost leader of the Wild Hunt. What’s more, he tells you he needs you to come lead the Four Horsemen in a search for Lucifer who’s also gone missing, before Hell falls into anarchy as demons revolt and start the Apocalypse.

You probably shouldn’t have kept the hellhound but you can’t help it! It’s such a good boy!

Settings:
neoLunerys, or Lune as its denizens call it, is a host to humans and Supernaturals both. Supernaturals have always occupied the same world as the humans although they tend to stick to the shadows.

It wasn’t always like that however. Early Pagan religions, urban legends, and myths were sprinkled with truth thought to be fictional over time. The Supernaturals originated from another world though and would visit Lune for trade, friendship, and other sorts of diplomacy. It all changed when the Eldritch Conquerors came to the Supernaturals’ world. Fearing the same drastic fate would happen to Lune, the Supernaturals retreated from this world, closed all the gates, sealed all the leylines, and left only a few of their kind to guard these places. Soon enough, the existence of the Supernaturals was buried from human living memory.

Lune shared the same timeline as our Earth until the turn of the twenty-first century. It was then that the Great Wipeout occurs, the moon’s devastation the cataclysm of a series of destructive natural events that forever changed the world as humans knew it. One of them was the destruction of seals and wards around gates and leylines, and the gap between worlds was bridged once again. Supernaturals began crossing over but they were different. Darker. More dangerous.

Not long after that, a war between the two races broke out and humans were forced to introduce the Transhumans, enhanced individuals made to battle against the other side. The war ended shortly thereafter, both sides suffering major losses. Treaties were signed and Domes with controlled atmospheric conditions were built by both parties to serve as safe havens against the harsh place the surface of the world had become. That was approximately four hundred years ago.

neoLunerys has a science fantasy genre, with urban fantasy and sci-fi subs. Also, even Supernatural races have a hierarchy and this story will focus on demons, one of the top dogs.

If you’re interested to learn more about this world, please do check out neoLunerys here: Worldbuilding Bible The story is going to involve the Supernatural’s origin world a bit too, if you wanna read a little bit of it! It’s named Teijran.

Things in mind the PC can do for now:
• Name your hellhound
• Be a democratic leader or be a tyrant
• Look for clues regarding archprince Lucifer’s whereabouts
• Start the Apocalypse, decide how to do that, or postpone it
• 5 possible ROs
• Work on your relationship with your brother, find out where he gets the money for your treatment and decide what you’ll do about it

Glitch in The Matrix

Summary:
Trouble’s brewing in Cymeia—but then again, when is it not?

You’re an honest worker by day, a rebel hacker by night and right now, the Underground is alive with whisperings about The Glitch, the powerful guard dog of the GovNet, gaining sentience. It’s starting to threaten (or warn?) Cymeians—the hackers determined to breach GovNet’s firewalls, of all people—with incomprehensible flashes of images that bring nothing but terror, or so the others say. One thing is clear: whatever those images might be, Xratos, Inc. is definitely involved.

And then you get to experience it for yourself and notice something they don’t say in the rumors: The Glitch seems more sentient than it lets on. Is it a self-learning AI like everybody thinks it is? Or is it something else?

One top of that, someone contacts Cymeia, someone from the Outside. After countless generations of radio silence, Cymeia finally establishes contact with a place called Thawellane, humanity’s other half.

Settings:
Pruentia is a land where Gods and humans once coexisted, until the Dark Ones fell from the sky and annihilated the Gods. As a last form of protection against the Dark Ones, they bestowed their powers to mankind, giving them the ability to do extraordinary feats. With this farewell gift, the Gods hoped to give humanity a fighting chance.

The war was a Pyrrhic victory for the Dark Ones, giving men time to prepare. However, instead of waging another war, the Dark Ones retreated to the fallen capital, protecting themselves with advanced alien technology and EMP-like waves that discouraged any and all forms of sneaking in. Unfortunately, the remaining numbers of mankind were split into two: one to the east and the other to the west, and once the barrier around no man’s land was activated, communication between the two became impossible.

This story takes place countless generations after the fall of the Gods, in a continent named Pruentia—specifically in Cymeia, a post apocalyptic society located on the west side by the coast. This society has a cyberpunk and neonpunk theme to it. I was playing around with punk themes when I began worldbuilding Pruentia for one of my creative writing subjects. While Thawellane has a utopian solarpunk theme going on, Cymeia is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

If you’re interested to learn more about this world, please do check out Pruentia here: Worldbuilding Bible There’s a summary of the main storyline I’m tackling for said CW class, as well as an in-depth bible for it.

Things in mind the PC can do for now:
• Choose from six different jobs or be a full-time hacker instead. Each will affect the narrative of the story
• Find out the meaning behind The Glitch’s messages
• Befriend the Glitch, make enemies with it, or be indifferent
• Fight for the people or double cross them as a mole
• Expose Xratos, Inc. or benefit from their activities
• Help establish good relations with Thawellane or ruin it before it deepens
• 3 possible ROs

The Angel Extractor

Summary:
You’re an Extractor, someone tasked to retrieve young angels who accidentally “fall” to Lune. Unbelievable as it might be, it happens far more often than the winged ones like to admit out loud—you having a job attests to it. Search for an angel, catch them, bring them to the nearest Supernatural embassy, and done! You get paid for something so easy—most of the time. Aside from the occasional difficult angel who decides they like being on Lune than on Teijran, their homeworld, life’s pretty good.

Until your angels end up dead or dying before you get to them. Well, that surely makes life difficult, doesn’t it? Despite the Supernatural Peace Accords, haters and bigots still exist and now you have an extra job to hunt down this hunter. In a race against time with angel lives on the line, will you manage to outwit this hunter and catch them? Or will more angels fall to their deadly traps?

Settings:
This story takes place in neoLunerys, too, but focusing on the other side: the angels. I also want to delve into Lune’s urban lit aspect, and maybe PC will be desperate enough to go check out the Underground for more clues and whatnot. Lune has a lot of niches and microcosms, and the tone for this story is definitely going to be different than the first story mentioned above.

Things in mind the PC can do for now:
• Choose from seven different Supernatural species and three human races. Each will affect the narrative of the story
• Decide how you’ll approach this hunt. Are you charming and friendly? Stoic and intimidating? Silent and sneaky? The choice is yours
• Will you seek help from the law, go Underground, or do this solo?
• Find out the reason why the angels are dying and who’s killing them
• ROs? Yes, there will be

Oh, and if you have time, please check out my WIP so you get an idea about my writing style too. Thanks for reading!

I’m already invested in Glitch in the Matrix. It has big shadowrunner/neuromancer vibes and I’m all for it. Plus there really aren’t many CoGs/HGs in the cyberpunk genre so something new is always appreciated.

So… is this more of a set protagonist game? I don’t like how you said this:

What if the player is not attracted to females? What about the gay men, bisexuals and straight women (and more) who prefer male ROs? Remember that people play as who they are in these games, having all eight ROs locked to female is… very limiting.

Further more in the case of Melody, the player wouldn’t like being told that their character has fallen in love with a character without any agency. That’s like forcing you to date someone you’re not attracted to/of the gender you’re not attracted to. You wouldn’t want to force a gay male to love a woman, and a lesbian woman to love a male.

You write the story you want, but you might want to consider these points. Genderlocked MC, orientation, (possibly personality too from what I’ve read) and romance options are not things many people would like.

A set protagonist or MC is just a main character that isn’t a blank slate. They have a fixed name/personality/appearance/backstory that can’t be changed. Of course the personality can change over the course of the game but that is how they start out as.

I think that is what they meant.

@Idragonis Well… you tell the story you want to tell. Post the demo here when you are ready. I don’t think my opinion represents every person here, some people like M/F genderlocked stories, some don’t. Just keep in mind that a majority of people here play for roleplay and representation. Otherwise, like I said, tell the story you want. The Dragoon Saga by Cataphrak has a set straight male protagonist, but plenty loved it nonetheless (myself included).

I like grey protagonists, so I’ll be checking your demo out if you decide to put it up. You sound like you’re sure of what you’re doing, so another bonus point. Best of luck

I’ll be honest with you, this game does not appeal to me at all. As @Fennik has already mentioned, it seems to me that you are locking far too many things. With all the ROs being set as female, and the gender locked MC, this does not seem like a game that would appeal to the majority of the forum (including me). I think the difference between this and so many other gender locked games is that, at least from the way you’ve described it here, it doesn’t feel like a game.

I truly believe one of the most important parts of a game is the amount of agency you are given over the protagonist. There seems to be very little of that offered here. Locking the protagonist’s personality offers very little room for organic character growth through the story, something I assume the game would have since it is 600,000 words long.

While your premise is interesting enough, and the characters seem decently developed, this does not feel like it would be a game to me. I would suggest either making it more interactive with regards to not having a set personality for the protagonist, or changing the genders of some ROs. If you don’t want to change anything that’s totally understandable, but my recommendation then would be write a book rather than an interactive story instead, as there is no need to make these changes if you write a book.

Thanks! That’s good to hear. Those are actually the vibes I’m aiming for and hopefully can pull it off when the time to write comes.

It looks like it’s going to be fun. Just like there are games with only gay/lesbian romance, there should be straight as well. For some people it will be a turn off (as a Bi man, i Love to romance boys too, but a female R.O only game can be fun too.) But im sure a lot of people will appreciate that. The Point is, you dont have to represent any sexuality that you dont want to, nobody can force you into that. Do what will be fun to you, the idea sounds amazing if done right.

Hi all! I’ve been toying with turning this idea into an IF novel for a while now, so I figured I’d throw up a little post about it to see if there’s any interest!

You work at The Moonhouse Lounge, a mysterious bar built into the top floor of an old lighthouse. None of its patrons remember seeking it out so much as they just sort of find themselves there, night after night. You, as the Moonhouse’s bartender, have a job that goes beyond serving drinks.

In essence, you are a… professional confidant. You let the bar’s patrons air their worries and vent their frustrations to you. You gently pry from them their secrets, their woes, their regrets. You listen until they have nothing more to share, nothing left to tell — and once their souls are finally laid bare before you, you never see them again.

This, the truth: The Moonhouse is a bar that exists in purgatory, functioning as a sort of ‘waiting room’ between life and the After. The patrons who come to you are as lost as ships at sea; no longer who they used to be, but unsure where they’re meant to go next. As you talk to them, as you learn who they are, you oversee their final judgement. Are they deserving of their perceived heaven? Their presumed hell? Are they to be reincarnated as something new, or to have their very essence torn asunder?

So! That’s a pretty rough/vague summary of the overall concept, and for a bit more clarification, I’ve included some gameplay details/other things to know down below. Potentially spoilery, too, albeit only for a couple of the super early reveals:

Other Notes
  • You don’t really remember anything before the bar. Yet, from time to time, you recall faint memories of a life that you think might’ve been yours. Were you human, too, once? And what does it mean if you were? The plot (or at least, the way it’s currently outlined) follows an episodic ‘patron of the week’ structure, with this mystery gradually unfolding alongside it.
  • You will be interacting with numerous patrons throughout the story and, depending on the questions you ask/the things you choose to talk about with them, they’ll reveal different aspects of themselves that affect how they are inevitably “judged.” In this way, said patrons’ fates are influenced by you over time, rather than made as a single decision.
  • You don’t work alone! You are the sole bartender, yes, but the Moonhouse does have a few other constant faces: a mischief-making server and a bitter-hearted entertainer/musician fill the roles of your colleagues, while many unseen strings seem to be pulled by the lounge’s enigmatic owner.
  • Relationships, whether romantic or otherwise, will play a pretty big part in the game. I currently have three characters that are definite romance options, and another three that I am still deciding on whether or not should be ROs (though they do play a part in the story regardless).
  • I’m hoping to include a fair bit of customisation for both the MC (gender, appearance, personality, etc.) and the Moonhouse (in that you can personalise the aesthetic of your bar, though I imagine it’ll mostly be for flavour text reasons).

I… think that’s most of what I want to put out there, for now. Not really sure if I’m giving too much or too little away, but regardless: is this an idea any of you would be interested in seeing/reading/playing? Additionally, if you have any questions about this or any comments to share, or maybe even suggestions of any kind, feel free to let me know!

I’m worried already, don’t be numerous, I would suggest put a limit to that, I’m afraid that the plot or plots might would not have enough room to develop and that things might be rushed.
But you do you, I’ve already hooked with the idea, I believe you could manage that.

I love this idea! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I think the episodic structure you suggest would work very well, dealing with the patrons on a case-by-case basis and discovering new bits of information as time goes on.

Also, I’m ridiculously excited about being able to customise what the bar looks like.

This is an interesting concept and it reminds me of an anime called Death Parade. I can’t wait to read it!:+1:

Thank you all for your feedback so far!

Oh, I definitely intend for there to be a limit! Maybe ‘numerous’ was the wrong word — right now there are about a handful of them planned, and each one is tied to the progression of the main story/meant to be thematically relevant to the arc in which they appear. Hopefully that clears it up a bit? I’m really happy to hear you’re interested in this idea!

Thank you so much, I’m really glad to hear it! I don’t know yet how in-depth I can make the bar customisation, but it’s an element I’m really excited to play with. For now, my notes include variables like drink specialties, layout, lighting, and decor. Grungy dive bar with exposed brick and industrial furniture? Sure. High-end cocktail lounge with glass walls and a grand piano? Why not. …May the coding gods be kind.

Oh, I’ve heard of that, actually! Never got around to actually watching it so I’m not sure how much will be similar in practice, but from a quick perusal on Wikipedia, I can already see what you mean  Thanks a ton for your interest!
