Interest Check Thread

I haven’t and I’ll search it up now. I figure that spending time with some amplifies or deteriorates relationship depending on how the person felt about the person before the “Circumstance”.

I figured as much I’m thinking that most people that are put in these situations end up falling in love after staying together for the benefits

I’ll try to get to it you have my word

Just as a quick follow-up, I will be moving forward with the fantasy story! I suspect it’ll be at least two-ish months before I have anything I’m comfortable putting forward as a demo, but I wanted to thank everyone again for voting and helping me with my decision paralysis.

I know this is late, but I handled this exact situation by having ‘references’ in the stats section for In the Service of Mrs. Claus. People unfamiliar with American Christmas traditions can read a short summary of the legends that matter for the game.

I’d like to make a sprawling, epic, high fantasy game in the style of Dragon age and similar things. I recognize that this type of game will make it much harder for sequels to exist, but is this generally something people would like to see, and what are some other considerations for a game like this? What are some other pitfalls to consider? alternatively, what are some things you might like to see in such a game? Personally, I would love to see more intrigue, misdirection, and high fantasy plots, perhaps even unique origins, unique and interesting romancesable characters detailed worldbuilding, etc. Many games have some or most of these factors to varying degrees, but I haven’t found much at the scope I’m looking for.

What do you mean by Dragon Age? (Never Played)

It is like ‘Fable’ perhaps?

I would love a game like dragon age! There are a lot of things that could be done to a game inspired by or based around dragon age. I always liked that mages are only born, and not created and therefore mostly feared. And deciding on a unique specialization. Adding some different races like goblins, or some weird magical mutant playable race.

Love the idea. My main piece of advice would be not to bite off more than you can chew. It’s a lot easier to imagine yourself eating the huge cake than it is to actually do it. Same with writing. Usually taking it in small steps is better. Otherwise good luck :+1:t2:

In a sense, both DA and Fable are RPG, but what sets it apart from other RPGs is its narrative and gameplay which involve stronger character-driven element (read: romance). It’s also more like Divinity (iso-RPG) rather than being action-hackslash.

@Brian_Rushton It’s good to keep an open mind that not everyone is familiar with even a popular/trending thing. I’m happy that went out of your way to add an in-game reference, whether it’s short-quick or long-detailed. Having optional reference to real-world counterpart is something underappreciated, I feel.

I have a story I want to tell along with my friend. We have written some lore and characters around nine months ago, before I even started playing CoG/HG games, and now I’m a bit afraid people would call us copycats, since some core aspects can be considered similar to those of Wayhaven Chronicles. Can’t help but worry.

So,

What: A detective story wrapped into urban fantasy (with non-humans living out in the open), mixed with a moderate-to-heavy dose of cyberpunk.
Where: A fictional city (metropolis). There is also the Other Side: a parallel dimension, a mirror of the city. Only non-humans and mages can go there without issues, others need guides — unless they wanna risk it. Trespassing without a guide or magic within you ends up with nausea at best and coma at worst. Due to its nature and inaccessibility, the Other Side contains all sorts of shadowy business. There you can see the city looming above in the sky, upside down, like an inverted image.
How: Lots of choices, heavy branching, several romance options (probably gender-switching), and lore, touching the subjects of relationship between humans and non-humans, regulations for taking jobs involving magic, trading magical items and so on. The story touches some dark themes.
Who: The main character is an investigator working for Non-humans Affairs Committee. Fully customizable, with some predetermined points to make them fleshed-out even in their blankiest state. Their work demands cybernetic enhancements, but it’s the player who decides how to approach the subject.

If you’d be interested in something like this, please give this post a like or leave a comment! I’d appreciate it. Or maybe you want to share something you hope to see in that kind of setting? Don’t hesitate to tell me.

I’m a big fan of supernatural/detective stories so I’ll look forward your demo. Although this kind of genre may be considered as recurring or “copycat” of other CoG/HG games, every plot is different and unique, and personally I’m always looking for more stories like these

I wanted to make game like that, but I don’t for that reason. All of the good ideas have been used by good writers already. :pensive:

I like the idea! I looove mystery and supernatural stories, so if you decide to make a choice game, I will definitely be reading it.

I also have a question if you don’t mind me asking. Will you be able to choose the MC race (like human or non-human)? If so, what races could we pick? Idk, I just like playing a character that’s not human, lol.

Remind me of Shadowrun. A game that made part of my teenage. It will be transhumanic near future cyberpunk or Classic 80s cyberpunk? (By classic I mean Apple computers and Commodores, big ass mainframes in corporate building serving as dungeons where hackers with augments that look like telephonic terminal wiring going out of their skin, people using ATMs, :floppy_disk: floppy disks and walk man, you know, “classic” future was more futuristic than contemporany future.)

How evil can you be because I want to be so dam eevilll

@Vashnik Glad you’re interested! I totally agree with you. It’s just my paranoid inner self speaking, can’t help but worry a little

@Aiko_Dawson1917 I personally think it’s “how” what matters, not “what”. Urban fantasy is relatively popular setup for games and novels, but every author put something unique on the table.

@Lupita Happy to know you’re interested!
Unfortunately, MC is a human, but we’re discussing the possibility of them having some dormant (or not-so-dormant) magical powers. I like playing as non-human myself, and I’d love to include that option in the game, but alas. The decision behind this choice based on the plot and it’s logic. Sorry!
You will be able to romance and flirt with non-humans, though.

@Nahim_Kerman My co-author just started to play Shadowrun and instantly fell in love with the game, so I’m pretty sure she’ll bring some pieces to the story inspired by it  As for your question, it will be near future. Cybernetic enhancements play a big role in people’s lives.
I do love classic cyberpunk, though! I don’t own any rulebooks myself, but I watched several sessions and they were awesome.

@Epic Depends on what you consider as “evil”. It’s not a game about accessing some flashy powers you can wield to do good or bad things, it’s a detective story. You are an investigator, a part of a system and you work on the side of the law. You will be able to bend it, despise it, be harsh, cruel, or unsympathetic. Your motivations for joining the Committee are yours to choose. Maybe all you care about is your paycheck? You decide :slightly_smiling_face:

Can you frame people

I’d say there may be such opportunities, but the deeper you dig, the more details you uncover, and it would be hard to frame someone with lack of solid evidence, if they already proven to be innocent. Plus, the crime you’re investigating is much more than nice and simple murder mystery. It’s in your best interests to get to the core of it.
Despite all I’ve said, there may be an option to treat this case as something you don’t want to investigate. Since branching of the story is still very much WIP, it’s possible to include that kind of option. I’d say that path will snowball eventually, and if you’ll do this, there’ll be consequences and even “early endings”: game overs narrating the subsequent events. But why play this game at all if you don’t want to uncover the truth?
