Interest Check Thread

@Entracte @LiliArch I’m working on something a lot less than serious. I think your reservation may be valid. Humor is so subjective. Also, it translates poorly from language to language, culture to culture. It tends to derail, so the writer faces the additional challenge of keeping things moving forward. And it can grate after a while, which is one of the reasons why comedy series tend towards short-form. 30min. So, smaller base audience, I think. Horror, for instance, does immensely well internationally because the themes translate seamlessly–monsters are scary in every language. I think you’re asking more of writers too: coding, writing, and comedy, which I think is hardest to write. You can give John Wick a puppy and then kill it and have a compelling tragedy on your hands. And anyone can think of a one-liner. But long-form comedy? Ugh. Even Shakespeare is known for his tragedies, but I think his comedies are much more accomplished. Especially when people are conditioned to get it from film and standup where there is physicality and tone of voice. Anyway, I’ve noticed my thread grows slower than some others on serious subject matter. I may also be a terrible writer. You can check out “Not Your Mother’s Shire” and let me know. Cheers! Sorry for the long answer to a short question.
