One-second clairvoyance
Knowing the future is super helpful but how helpful is knowing one second into the future?
I guess Having the Ability to materialize any weapons or make weapons appear out of thin air…
Ability to grow your nails sharp? But have to clip it later. Also to never miss objectively like throwing or never miss a deadline on a subject.
The ability to make it snow
Snow days
Instant 24 hour memory wipe of every in a 50m radius around you…
Including yourself.
I learnt today that your hair and nails have a little bit of sulfur. What about a lot of it xD I’m not sure if this person would be resistant to the smell or not. Can be interesting
Maybe enhancing other’s senses? I mean, not just a better hearing, but a hearing so great that their own heartbeat would knock them out.
Antimemetic. People can see or though you, but they can’t mentally perceive you- or any information about you- unless you want them to. Write your name on a piece of paper, and they’ll think it’s blank.
(Shamelessly stolen from SCP Foundation stuff; good source for other abilities as well, if you want some really bizarre ones)
The power over Karma
Since when did diligence become a superpower? What is is this? Lazyville?
The power of compelling.
Unlike mind control, it more of giving suggestion and compelling others to do your bidding. This mean that the may or may not do it as it does not override their wills. It not effective on everyone but very effective on weak willed people and prideful people. Despite the cons, it much more safer than mind control as it doesn’t leave any evidence as the victims think that they want to do it instead of ordered to do it. Great subtlety for crime and great for making others to actually do their job like doing homework and no slacking during work time.
These are made better if they’re totally uncontrollable.
- must correct grammar, or else reality is twisted to fit the incorrect grammar
- everything is a high-pitched screech
- if there’s an error, all of reality is destroyed, so they basically just live an ordinary life unless there’s an emergency
- just a sentient ball of gas
- upchucks extinguishing foam every time they open their mouths: bllleeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh fooooaaaaaammmmmm
- always magnetic. metal things stick to them.
Well if we talking about powers i have seen many use is shapeshifting, gravitation powers, electric powers , web slinging and power to contruct (creation magic) non living things
I highly recommend checking Worm (web novel) and the community around it for inspiration/ideas on making powers unique. It has an ingenious, well-thought out system for creating powers, and does a good job of linking them to the character. That said, the fact that it’s so structured can be limiting in some ways, and not every power system will have the same limitations, if any, so ymmv.
That said, a few potential ideas off the top of my head:
-
A tactician that can “read” the blood flowing within the body of anyone nearby, giving them insight into emotional state, physical movement, presence, etc.
-
Someone that can control sand (no turning into it) with a vague physical sense to know whether or not any portions of the sandswarm they can’t see is touching someone/something. Less Gaara, more D&D rogue whose shtick is obscuring/smothering enemies, targeting electronics, tracking anything moving through their swarm.
-
Someone that can create grenades, each of a different color. Red shoots out flames, induces rage. Blue shoots out water, induces sadness/depression. Yellow is for electricity, induces anxiety/skittishness? Create other colors, link physical & emotional effects, see what it can do?
You mentioned picturing something a villain would have, that’s not flashy or grandeur. If the villain’s someone that wants recognition, it’d be interesting if their only power was controlling people, one at a time, and they grant that person a random power, but that power is locked onto the victim, so even when they’re not being controlled he/she would have some low-level power to do with as they pleased, with the caveat that our villain could take control at any moment.
This creates a scenario where the villain will most likely never get public recognition for anything, because they’re never seen committing crimes (controlling someone takes concentration) and they just keep churning out heroes (“Oh, you got controlled? We’ll train you and make sure that never happens again”). One possible answer is for this villain to create a team of loyal powered minions that’ll protect him/her as they attack places as a team. Villain gets protection, minions get powers, and onlookers assume the villain is badass, since they command such an effective team. (Or can casually offload grunt work to their team. This is cyoa, after all.)
This also introduces the idea of the people the villain did “catch-and-release” with before realizing they were better off working with loyal minions. 1, because the villain thought of this quickly? That’s still one person determined to see them brought to justice because they had their sovereignty taken away, and suddenly they have powers and a clear target, since the villain is so eager for recognition and eventually something can click. Or it can be a whole team of the villain’s former victims, with each of them feeling differently about their situation. (Angry, Vengeful, or even Excited, Thankful, Romantic? Even if the idea of romancing someone you once mind-controlled squicks you out, it’d be an interesting way to explore the villain’s morality. Would they feel regret and take him/her in? Be uncomfortable with the fact that they caused it and shoo them away? /shrug)
The first two ideas were made by just skimming through this thread, but the third one (my favorite, clearly) came from reading your comment about wanting non-flashy powers that weren’t smashing through walls or controlling someone that a villain might use, then creating a power that would make it hard for the user personally to be flashy, when all they want is recognition. Having a basic idea of the character’s wants/goals (villains tend to want wealth/fame) and then giving them a power opposite to that effect (won’t ever be seen committing crimes on their own) is a handy set-up.
Granted, I don’t know if it’s a handy set-up, since I’d have to write a story about it to find out. But it sounds interesting to me. Good luck with writing! Superhero fiction’s fast-becoming one of my favorite genres, although I’ve yet to read a single comic.

Misfits (UK tv show) had some cool powers.
The powers that the heroes got matched their personalities.
A character who regretted something they did in the past got the ability to travel back in time (but only when they felt guilty)
A character that judged herself based on other peoples opinions got telepathy.
A friendless loner got the power of invisibility.
There were some unusual powers on the show:
Sex change (not always at will)
Lactokinesis (the power to control milk)
Ressurrection (but they slowly turned into a zombie)
Being able to buy/sell powers (but not use them yourself)
Rocket scientist (know everything about building rockets)
Evil twin (split into multiple copies, but each is a different aspect of your personality)
See through other peoples eyes
Cause random accidents.
Cause baldness.
Switch ages with someone.
Swap body parts with someone
Animate art / tattoos
Body hijacking (via phone)
Water walking
