I have decided to choose the weapon specialization for my first playthrough, just to mix things up from my older demo runs. I wonder how useful it will be compared to tactics. I am hyped about whooping rebel ass in 1v1 duels tho.
Can belos not die he always die in my one
Belos is a plot-mandated death.
wait… OH MY GOD SHE CAN DIE?! im so gonna try this next playthrough… like… all my marshalls dont want the throne but to be forced into it like that… big ooof
also
ahh, that ending with Obren and the Marshal and Darin at the door. that was just so cute TuT i never thought this book would make me AW but it did
ahhh congrats!! already started reading, it’s magnificent.
A teensy weensy thing I noticed (spoilers below)
Lada complimented my haircut…
…but my Marshal had long hair at the start of the game, that had become very long (which I imagine is waist-length growing to classic-length/mid-thigh length; here is a reference ) by the time the army reached Krorid. She had not cut it at all.
It’s not an immersion-breaking thing or an urgent (for all I know, in this scene my Marshal has her hair styled in a way that conceals its true length), but it’s something I noticed. I apologize for not noticing earlier.
Woke up today and decided to play my game where you’re the mistreated child of a horrible mother who has to serve as a soldier in a horrible war, before coming back years later as a messed up adult when everything’s gone to hell.
Then I had to watch my niece for a bit so I put down FF16 and played ITFO on my iPad while she played with blocks and watched Sesame Street. It was very very good, really liked the ending. I had to retry the final battle like a dozen times to barely scrape out a draw, but it is what it is.
Obren’s physical description is a little buggy. For reference, my Marshal has dark brown hair, light brown skin, and amber eyes.
Ahhh so cathartic to read this after so much time dreaming about the end. The epilogue, specially Obren’s and Darin’s parts, was both amusing and heartwarming.
After having two playthroughs I eagerly await an achievement guide because there are certain things mentioned that I don’t know how to get. I cry for my rangers slaughtered in both playthroughs
Can someone guide me on winning the battle? I’ve been trying diff choices after the checkpoint but i always seem to lose
I can’t help but smile.
Listen. I spent so long afraid that this was gonna end in tragedy. It’s still very tragic, I mean. The overall theme of the game, that is. However, the beginning of healing that’s going on here? I’m happy to see that happen. Thank goodness for Darin. Lada played her part too, but Darin and MC’s bond is so close, and probably the only positive thing going on here (relatively).
So instead of like the alpha demo, where I hated Vedran and wanted to murderate him, I thought it was ultimately Elya’s decision and let her come into her own as a ruler at every opportunity. If she said off with his head, off with his head it’d be. Now he’s just rotting in prison and I find that more delicious as karma.
I suppose a warrior type mc will be able to finish off Rade, though my tactics mc did a number on him and his army, humiliated his old self and had him running home cryin’. It was also delicious to read that. I enjoy this game. I plan to play again and again til I find all the secrets.
Where are you getting stuck?
Feels like i cant get past this. Like this is the part where i felt like my point is the highest. After this point, i feel like i kept picking the wrong choices that led to me eventually earning a below 70 point. And my mc is the warrior/combat focused. So i think i’m picking the wrong choices but i just dk which set of choices gives the highest points
I’m actually about to start that route, with a combat-focused mc.
Hmmm… I managed to pick them off with tactics and choose the new strategy when prompted. However, I stuck to Regimentation and got Regimentation II, which further bolstered their cohesion as soldiers. Oh! That and I had my mc ride into battle with his comrades so that their courage didn’t desert them and set fire to Rade’s tent to demoralize his troops more.
There’s a few other factors that might trip you up…
I’m just glad we have the option to replay from the checkpoint, just to see and play around with diff options and not having to restart from the beginning
Agreed! I did lose the first time and that’s why I chose the new strategy option. I hate to lose and after chapters of trying to deal with this sanctimonious prick, I couldn’t let him have the satisfaction lmaoo. Seriously though, I’ll give you a guide to the battle once I complete this playthrough.
Thank you so much for all the kind words and congratulations!
She is!
Good to hear! That was one of the scenes I was most worried about, too.
Whoops. There’s a small coding error there; you’re getting the haircut version of that scene rather than the hair growth version of that scene. I’ve fixed it and will send the updated files.
This was definitely an intentional thing on my part. I saw the future.
Hmm, that’s interesting. From all of my beta testing, I always found that the final battle was too easy. If this becomes a commonly reported problem, I may have to look into it further. I also tried to make the loss/stalemate routes as equally satisfying as the actual success routes, as some of the best stories are ones about overcoming failure.
Thank you for the report! I’ve fixed the bug and sent the files as well.
Glad to hear it!
I’ll make a guide in the coming week or two, my schedule permitting.
Those choices can make a very distinct difference, but they won’t let you swing the whole battle. Army composition will generally determine the fight, and I can make a guide on that soon as well.
I love dark stories that are about hope. Despite how bleak ITFO can be, I’m not a nihilist and don’t intend to write a nihilistic story.
I’m pretty sure it’s possible to get to that last battle without enough resources to win it, so the problem may be decisions you made earlier in the game that led to arriving at the end with a small army. In my playthrough, the absolute best I could do in maybe a dozen attempts was a draw, and that required my weapons specialist marshal to personally lead a last minute hail mary cavalry charge.
I see. I think i might’ve f*cked up my previous choices then I guess i’ll just end this playthrough with a failure and restart new ones on a hopefully positive note thank you for sharing ur experience!
When u mentioned the last min hail, was that the part where Darin asks to retreat but our stubborn marshal chose to sprint forward alone?
