Since the open alpha, saving Dismas has always been worth it in my eyes. I hope to see more of him in Book 2. He’s my favorite secondary character. Maybe he becomes an NCO and/or interacts with named soldiers such as Sokol, Vjeran and Gideon more (it seems like these three don’t perish on screen, but I do know that Gideon is one of Velinor’s archers and Vjeran is a light horseman).
@Bacondoneright had you ever considered making Dismas a secret RO (for either male or female Marshals) in Book 2? In his hypothetical route obviously he’d have to survive book 1 (hence he’d be a “secret RO” if he was an RO at all) and the Marshal would have to be single (and attracted to men) going into Book 2.
It seems that the chapter 9 achievements are tied to the big open battle rather than the tactical hit-and-run/guerilla warfare. From my reading of those chapters in my first playthrough it seems like Rade is having a much more difficult life and battle (and is a weakened opponent overall heading into Book 2), but there’s no decisive battle and the war is set to be drawn-out. Did anyone get an achievement/decisive victory in the Tactics version of Chapter 9? I’m curious and wondering if I should make 2 versions of my main Marshal—one who faces Rade in open battle and one who attacks his camp.
Also, I wonder what the fallout will be of stealing the siege weapons in Chapter 8.
I love all the epilogues. Mira’s one if you kill Vedran is a gut-punch, even though I hated her and wanted Vedran dead post Chapter 6 in the alpha. I contemplated knocking him unconscious at the last second rather than killing him, but my desire for a new achievement prevailed. I now want to try the Mira-gains-understanding route rather than the mutual-avoidance route. And I still want to give Elya a hug—she may be a strong queen but she’s still my Marshal’s sister.
IIRC, it was something like our lines were breaking and I had a choice to retreat or to do an infantry/cavalry charge in the hopes of breaking their lines enough to earn a draw. I went with the cavalry charge and was able to do enough damage to force a draw.
I entered with a pretty cursed playthrough where I had a fairly small army at the end, I’m pretty sure I lost forces at almost every opportunity, lol.
The draw route was great, though. Smashing through the enemy lines with my warhammer and plate armor was a great finish to it. Felt very appropriate for the way I’ve always seen that character. Not a great tactician, not a great strategist, but just huge and intimidating and capable of carrying the day just by wading into battle and killing so many people that the enemy collapses.
The only one I know of that you can get for chapter 9 with the tactics hit and run tactics is the “Bleed Them Dry” achievement and that’s if you Successfully completely destroy the enemies supply lines by burning their depot when you attack the main camp and then continuously attack their supply lines.
It works, if you wait till you have to choose and then edit to have all three specializations it recognizes and uses it. With no visible issue from my experience
Yep, it is. I always save him. The trick is to focus on saving him rather than attempting to save both him and Lada, focusing on Lada, or calling a retreat. When there is a choice to give Lada the shield or keep it for yourself (and use it to protect the unconscious Dismas), keep the shield.
Look, usually I’m a real softhearted pacificist, but Vedran kept starting shit over and over again. He couldn’t stay still in a corner after the first betrayal nooooo he kept getting in the way purposely. And if you don’t learn the lesson after the 3rd time don’t expect me to hope you will learn next time. I’m curious about him and Mira if I don’t kill him but not enough to restart lol
If you’re a weapons master you can try to kill him when he kidnaps you and Elya. You won’t succeed, but the wound you give him will get infected with the rot and he’ll commit suicide at the end.
I got a good ending completely on accident. During the battle segments where you pick the troops I had no clue what I was doing, and then it was the same during the actual battles (I find segments like those so stressful in IFs). In the end, Elya is the Queen, Marshall is on the way to lawful forgiveness, and I got that decisive blow achievement too (how the Hell did I even).
If anyone has advice for those segments, for future reference, It would be much appreciated.
LMAOOOOOO ok I’m getting spanked. I think the chapter 8 battle determines how it’s gonna roll out in chapter 9 now because besides a few different choices, I’ve kept things largely the same for my combat mc.
Edit: I’m pretty sure we needs more rangers and archers at the beginning then buff the army with calvrymen whenever possible because otherwise it’s looking hecking impossible. I’m gonna hold off on the combat-focused mc for now.
Yeah there’s a bit of planning needed for that last battle, as a combat focused MC Rade had about twice as many men then me and I had to join the fray to keep it a draw.
(Would have retried different things however I accidentally hit continue and well, I’m just thankful there is a redo option at all.)
I think it was like his 13k vs my 6.5k, and he definitely took the worse. Lil upset we couldn’t go into round two for the battle cause I figured I could’ve attritioned it but oh well. The conclusion afterwards felt good and I wasn’t put off.
Re played as tactical commander and oh boy I wish I did get casualty reports for Rade, 8d love to see just how devastating ruining his supply line was.
Overall amazing story brother and I can’t wait for the next book and Whiskey.
God this wait was sooooo worth it. I’ve been here before a planned finished, and when the demo ended in a cliffhanger I knew it was going to end with a bang. And it did. I cannot wait for the next book to finish the Marshal’s journey. Truly well done.
Really enjoyed my Tactics run. Turning the entire race to the capitol into nothing but harassment raids and Rade coping and seething because I won’t give him a fight was wonderful to experience. He’ll be hearing bushes speaking Krorid for the rest of his life.
Do feel bad for my Rangers. I dont think there two dozen left by the end. My sneaky guerilla stuff has left me with a huge amount of my other troops and minimal losses elsewhere. I would have to alter my tactics pretty hard in the future.
I love this so far. I still havent finished it but im wondering if theres a way to save your horse? What do i need to do? Its too sad, I so desperately want to keep her alive
