hmm well i dont think i understand entirely what you want us to do it might be becuse im dumb or becuse im tired imma take the later for my prides sake but if i understand correctly you want smaller stuff that might be found in the wild or the forest or a tavern or maybe discretly stolen from a stand in the town square and such with less complicated backstories kinda like (as i was walking down the forest road i saw golden leaf this would look good at the shelf at home) kinda like that?’
Trinkets and baubles! Otherwise I feel like you’re having us pick up momentos/souevneirs. Or we’re bordering on near kleptomaniacy now back to giving everybody the cold shoulder in the story till I either give in or alienate everybody
ok i think might have something in mind that can be kinda showy valuable (depending exactly how rare it it’s in the word) and quite beautiful but first i gotta ask a lore question @pandaboi how rare are phoenixes in your world and is there a chance they might be in the wild close to where the city is? im planing on an ide for the mc to get a phoenix feather when hes out hunting with day and his dogs.
I don’t need where they came from for ALL the objects (I know where I can fit the objects I’ve chosen into the story)
Here, let me try and give some examples for things you can add to your hoard during the course of the story:
In Day’s first hangout you can swipe a fancy compass off his shelf
You can take something infused with magic from Lily’s shop
Zenos can give you a necklace
Well, those are all items you can get from your companions. Others are: During an investigation you’ll notice something catch the light on the floor and can pick it up and keep it (i can’t tell you what it is because that’s the one with story significance). There are grander objects, like optionally taking something beautiful and ornate and rare from a place that I can’t talk about because it’s a major plot point.
Now, I got the compass from a suggestion, so some suggestions will make it into the game as something you gain in its own separate scene (one with a choice of “take the compass” or “don’t take the compass” and i didn’t even need to write a whole separate path to add that one in, I just fit neatly into Day’s already existing hangout.)
But I can’t do that with all of them, so what I’m asking for are simpler knick-knacks I can mention in bulk during a scene. Something like, you looking at your bookshelf and seeing it decorated with a music box, a small ornate mirror, some nice-looking daggers, a little animal figurine made out of some kind of material (haven’t decided), probably something about a gem or a few because I’ve gotten so many gem suggestions. Something that can be gained off-screen (implied to be during a small time-skip into another season that’ll happen soon) and is not so fantastical and amazing and rare I need to dedicate too much narrative space to talking about it (I’m suddenly understanding the trouble @Interestedparty had when he asked for suggestions of stuff that could happen off-screen during a time skip in Through Broken Lenses)
So if I understand this correctly, you’re asking for more-or-less everyday items that the main character would swipe, right?
- a random, colored rock that inexplicably looks tantalizing to their dragon brain (birds do this, IIRC)
- a lacquered comb with beautiful but not grand craftsmanship and painted designs
- a cookbook with a particularly pretty leather cover, possibly studded with beads
- a lamp with glass designs that emphasize the appearance of fire, for their fire obsession
- one half of a pair of shoes, possibly some embroidered slipper
- a painting of the sky and rolling hills far down below
- a little device of human ingenuity, possibly vintage; something like how Sherlock Holmes has a gasogene (device for making soda water) on his shelf. What it’ll be is up to the setting, so up to you. Maybe the music box fills this one.
- A sculpture set of shepherds dancing.
Pretty much. There have been some rarer, very interesting objects suggested I’m keeping in mind for scenes I can fit them in. (or if I get particularly inspired to add an off-the-cuff branch into a different area) But there were just too many to be helpful for what I was trying to do. Anyway, your suggestions are nice, so thank you.
How about Skoll and Hati? Or books! They don’t have to be magical, by the way. Ooh, how about feathers of different birds? Or just utensils? Seashells!
Sorry, I know these aren’t fancy items, but they kind of were the first things to pop into my head head
Would a sword be counted as small or some armour.
Another suggestion: A pocket watch
"Apart from obvious stuff or things I know were already suggested, here's all the small, remotely decorative things I could think of. Hope some of it's useful!
- Maybe a pin or Broach?
- An ornate comb or mirror.
- Small figurines, carvings, and charms.
- Opened geodes.
- Small, pretty vials or bottles, (Think perfumes, shakers, and decanters) empty or not.
- Cameo jewelry.
- Trinkets and trinket boxes.
- Is there anything like Christmas ornaments in this world?
- Prince Rupert’s drops.
- Fancy Pipes (the smoking kind)
- Any decorative box or container
- Unusual coins
- Glass pens if they exist here
- Ceremonial weapons (often made with form over function in mind, makes sense not to use)
- Little dishes inlaid with stones, precious metals or abalone/nacre
- Inlaid anything, really
- Locket
- Pretty masks
- A small chime or whistle
- Little vases, jars, pots (pottery)
- I could See the mc picking up interesting stones, coral, and sea glass off of a beach. Amber or fossil fragments
Hey what do you think about something like an enchanted musical instrument wich has the power of controlling people’s mind (and the MC love to play) or a simple tattoo/mark on skke part of MC’s body that give them a special improvement on something like intelligence, strenght, good-looking, charm, agility or a special porwer? Also whatever effect it has on the protagonist it could be not something they have intentionally, but maybe it could be that someone put it in their body against their permission. It could be something they hate despite the powers it gives to them (and maybe some familiar they loved put it there before their death).
Oh boy, you just opened the floodgates.
First things first - if you’re going to ask people for suggestions you should impose some strict guidelines and rules because otherwise you’re going to get swamped with crazy ideas that aren’t exactly lore friendly or easy to implement. You’re still going to get those (because not everyone reads the rules) but at least then you’ll be able to ignore them guilt-free (or set them straight).
Secondly, I’d advise setting this up as temporary thing. Reading through several pages worth of suggestions takes time, selecting and implementing them even more so. Although the hoard has some importance is still a secondary objective so please be mindful that you don’t end up getting stuck on adding little things for too long while ignoring the rest of the game.
I also like the music box suggestion. Adding on to the child’s toy collection, I think it would be rather sweet and reminiscent of a childhood the MC would imagine for themselves. Could be a Jack-In-The-Box that could be in Zero’s office that jumpscares ya.
Seashells / Beads could also work, In a sandy area, or even on a boating expedition. A seashell necklace could be an item an RO could give you, or a bracelet. Depending on the MC’s preference.
A unique item every RO has could be interesting too. Could even make for a cheating play through where the only way to get all items in one go is to cheat and end up forever alone for a hidden item
Anyway, I’m just rambling now. Random keys that can open treasure found along the way could also be somethin’ who knows? Throwing ideas around.
Are those (the “flat bracelets”) called bangles?
I’ll address the suggestions later. I first have something important to say:
I planned to add a save system next update, but with how long that might take, I decided to go ahead and just do it now. With that added, I also included a new addition to the customization scene; you can now choose body type, a choice requested by a user. Let me know if there’s any choice you wish existed in any of the customization options. There’s also i think a couple very small things changed, but I didn’t keep track of them, they’re probably not noticeable.
Also, I completely changed up the original post to give more information. I’m still bad at summaries, so I rewrote that but it didn’t get any better.
A piece of glass that looks like flame frozen in time
A plushie or a “Day plushie”
no ide i looked it up they seem similar but there was a lot of them that looks kinda like normal bracelets when i was talking about bracelets i was mostly thinking about old school medieval bracelets
I would likely horde books, weaponry, and some jewelry.
Feathers, simple jewelry and daggers, (tiny) glass flasks or bottles (like for perfume or ink). I also enjoy the idea of a dragon hoarding silverware.
