What stats are needed to identify what proper seal’s are needed to deal with the flames at the princess home. I thought it was high magic and lore but I guess not.
@StarWarsMaster There should be options in Alvis and Verity’s romance scenes in Chapter 7 (and a few other places) to indicate that you’re interested in bringing the other person into your relationship. Then you’ll have a conversation with them in Chapter 8 (or Chapter 9, if you miss the wedding). You’ll need to pass a stat test to convince the person you’re not already romancing to join you.
@Koda222, do you mean the option to “grasp the mage’s theory about the magical defenses” in Chapter 2? That is Lore, though it’s a harder test with a slightly higher threshold than the other options.
I did thank you! Yeah it seems my lore is lower this time then my first time playing, I really appreciate the help.
This is another game I need to add to my favorite CoGs list. I love that we don’t have to be one of those heroic types which often happens in fantasy genre. Maybe just one tiny complaint I might have here: Meredith and Verity seem a bit too similar to me, I’d liked to have maybe a bit more diversity to choose from when it comes to female ROs. Like the prince and Alvis seem different enough to me that people interested in male ROs might find it easier to find their type. Tho Meredith and Verity are still both interesting enough characters that I’ll still try each of their romance routes.
I love it.
No, not exaggerating. I love it. The concept of “Hey, you lied, got famous off it, and now when shit actually hits the fan, you have to step up” is refreshing in and of itself, pretty unique. I like the characters, and the world-building is not something that just slaps you in the face. A good example of “Show, not tell”, if any. The characters themselves are each unique and well developed, and I enjoyed how our own heritage came into the picture.
In particular, I loved the cynical responses more than a lot of things. “Of course the prophecy is real. Why did I think this was over? Things are never over.”.
I did the “Fake it till you make it” approach, of lying enough that I became an actual magician. A damn good one, at that. “I swear I’ll kill Cadafel even if it’s the last thing I do” was one of my favorite lines.
I loved Verity. I also loved the others, of course, but Verity struck a particular chord with me. I was also pleasantly surprised I could talk her over to accepting the demons, too. Or, well, not completely close off their world from ours, at least.
If I had to say something, I was left with kind of an itch to learn about the other kingdoms. We know where Min is from, and they can give info about her own country, but we don’t know much about the rest, and they’re normally only mentioned in passing.
One thing, though, I have a few questions:
-
The magic in this world, I see it is a natural ability. But, is magic as strong as the real thing? For example, several magicians are capable of conjuring lightning. Is this magical lightning as fast as the real one?
-
This one is something that happens late-game, so spoiler covered: When preparing for the final battle with Cadafel, there’s a certain line stating that Cadafel could destroy Pansema with a single word if he so wished. Is this true? Is he that powerful?
-
In the flashback(s), it is mentioned that the MC turned the moon blood-red with their illusions. Now, I don’t really believe the MC turned the whole moon red. So, what exactly did they do? Was it a country/kingdom (while at that, how big exactly is the Kingdom?) wide illusion only? How did they do it?
Anyway, to end this, just one more thing.
Congratulations on the release, Abby! (Can I call you Abby? Seems a bit forward, so I apologize just in case.) You wrote a jewel, truly, and I applaud you for it. Best game of this year. If you have a mind to keep writing, you have a steadfast fan in me!
Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed the game! (And yes, of course you can call me Abby, I wouldn’t have it in my username if you couldn’t )
When it comes to the other countries, there are bits and pieces of information scattered throughout the game, a lot of which you wouldn’t necessarily come across on any individual playthrough. I haven’t developed them in depth beyond what’s mentioned in the game, since I was focusing on what felt necessary for the storyline. But here’s approximately what I know about them (most of which I believe is mentioned or alluded to in throwaway lines, though I honestly couldn’t tell you for sure):
- Eldriya is a large empire to the south of Ithos, across a small sea. They’re known for their scholarship, particularly when it comes to magic, and have a longstanding good relationship with Ithos. Despina and Evander have some Eldriyan heritage (their great-aunt is the current Empress), as does Chancellor Mardas, and Chancellor Zaman was born there and lived there until sometime in their fairly early adulthood.
- Delevon is a country to the north of Ithos, smaller than Eldriya but larger than Ithos. Their history with Ithos is more fraught, but they’re on relatively good terms at the moment. They’re prone to internal conflict as well, and their magical scholarship isn’t as defined. Alvis’s family is originally from Delevon (though the past couple generations were born in Ithos), and Damian Fairgrieve was as well, though his descendants have lived in Ithos for most of the time since he died.
- Ithos is fairly small and on a peninsula, so Delevon and Eldriya are its main real neighbors.
- Sienha and Mitsun are very far away, across an ocean and on a different continent. Min can tell you a few things about Sienha, as you mentioned. (Min uses they/them pronouns, by the way.)
- I know very, very little about Mitsun except that it borders Sienha and is still willing to trade with Ithos.
As for your other questions:
1: Magic certainly can be as strong as the real thing, but it would depend on the strength of the caster.
2: Cadafel’s powers were drained by his imprisonment, and even once he actually breaks out to fight you, he still hasn’t regained the full strength he once had. During the time he’s active in the game, he probably couldn’t literally do that, but he might have been able to once. And he can certainly do significant damage to Pasema, depending on exactly how the battle goes for you.
3: The moon was only ever turned red over the city of Archa, and people in the rest of the country couldn’t see it. I imagine what the PC did was project a red light into the sky and make sure it followed the moon’s path throughout the night, rather than anything that affected the actual physical moon.
This game is very well written, amazing characters, great storyline and the choices I made actually had a big impact on the development of the story and I felt I had the most freedom I’ve ever had in any game on this site.
Please keep on writing, you’re a gift to this world.
Just came to say I really enjoyed my first play through, gonna give it a second and third try, while peeking at the code to see what can and can’t be done. (Just to be sure, you can’t go for the throne with Despina can you ?)
Overwhole it is a very pleasant surprise I expected something more like a comedy, the really serious tone coupled with the “ridiculous” setting, was a perfect 10 for me. The lenght of the game is a bit much, considering the various playthrough possible, but not a real problem. I would say that I sometime felt like my choice were “ignored” (example: Verity or Letha saying stuff like “We should tell the truth it was wrong” without acknowledging the fact that I only lied to help them in the first place is anoying ) and that sometime I felt like I was not proposed with an option to use my strong stat while I was thinking of a very clear way to use them.
But otherwise really solid entry in the CoG library, 4/5 for me
It was an accident
I confused them for one of the other characters and I just woke up at the time of typing that. I really wasn’t trying to offend anyone, again I’m sorry.
Depends on exactly what you mean - you can certainly make sure Despina ends up on the throne, but you can’t marry her or become her consort or anything like that.
Meant the later, too bad
When first met Despina, she ask you not to ride with Evander. There’s an option of telling her the tactical importance of having him at your side.Which stats does this option check?
Combat. Most things that reference your knowledge of tactics do.
Thank you,how terribly wrong I was
Okay, first off, I adore the game. I couldn’t put it down this weekend. The premise is great and the characters are all lovely.
I do have a question, though. Is it possible to support Despina as Queen while romancing Evander? I was pushing for her but I kind of ended up with him as King without really trying
It should be possible! There’s nothing in the code designed to prevent it from happening, and there are definitely several sections designed to cover the possibility. It’s likely pretty difficult, though - with the way the choices involving the relevant stats tend to be set up, you’d have to strike a careful balance. Glad you’re enjoying the game!
It is my understanding that Creoleguy made an honest and innocent mistake for which he then apologized. Let’s not be down with anyone!
Interestingly, despite Min being neither a man nor a woman, they felt/read like a very traditionally feminine character to me, so it didn’t really surprise me when both people who misgendered them did so with female pronouns.
This is a gentle reminder to please keep conversations directed at the topic at hand and not at the individuals themselves. Focusing replies on the individuals themselves instead of the topic at hand can lead to friction between members and often causes the thread to derail.
Please also remember that it is often not so much what ones opinion is that causes friction, but how one chooses to express that opinion. Using negatively-charged value words are a good way to start friction, as is generalization and sniping. Personal comments lead to friction and flaming.
Sniping back and forth will often lead to the system closing the thread down, let’s avoid this if we can.
Finally, if you see disrespectful posts please do not reply to them. Rather, please use the report feature and let forum staff deescalate friction.
Let’s keep Abby’s thread open and unhindered with petty squabbling – if Abby objects to a person’s mistake concerning her story or characters, it is her right to correct them … all the rest of us, should be respectful of our fellow community members and avoid aggressive or passive-aggressive responses against each other.
Let’s continue to celebrate Abby’s work without spoiling its release with our squabbling.
Thank you.
How do i use the spoiler tag?
@Taay_Marques – Open the “options” cog (the very right icon) and click on “spoilers”.
You should then see the following [.spoiler] blablablabla [/spoiler] in your editing box
Once you do that write or paste material where the highlighted blablabla text is. This is what you want blurred as spoilers.
Hope this helps.
