Heroes of Myth — Are you a hero, a liar, or both?

This works. Another way that’s quite cheesy is to just say the opposite of what you want done.

Great game so far haven’t finished it yet but I do think a save system would be useful.

This game is actually better than I thought
Well worth the 4 bucks. But can someone tell me how the romance options are and how to do so. This is one of the better novels that came out this year

It would be an impressive coincidence of wording if it wasn’t!

@augustus27, it’s actually not Charm, it’s personality stat tests. Each of the options is testing a different personality stat - look at the wording and see which personality trait in the stats page sounds like it would be associated with that option.

@StarWarsMaster, the romance options are Alvis, Evander, Min, Meredith, and Verity. There are various opportunities to indicate that you’re interested in them, and a few different chances to actually start romances - the big ones are in Chapters 6 (which is kind of a preliminary to actually officially locking in a romance), 7, and 9.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s tried the game so far - glad people are enjoying it!

Absolutely! Actually, a save system would be great for every game, even shorter ones but for games this size, I’d go as far as to say it’s necessary.

Thank you for making it exist, it’s already got a spot on my favorites

Getting to side with Cadafel was a lot of fun, and I really appreciated that it actually gets to play out for a bit! I also quite enjoyed the way some of failed checks go - intentionally waffling some choices to come across as a buffoon makes for a hilarious playthrough.

I bought this as soon as I could, and stayed up until stupid o’clock to play through the whole thing. Just made a second playthrough with different choices, and both were equally satisfying (and it still feels like there’s lots of replay value left to explore). Definitely one to add to the favourites list!

My first intention was to keep up the lie, but Min just got so adorably happy every time a little bit of the truth slipped out, and I am weak, so uh. Everything got revealed and now that MC is sailing over the ocean with them. Second time around I was stronger-willed, and enjoyed getting fancy new powers. Made peace with the demons both times, would much rather be friends with them than with Verity. Tried both royals on the throne, and liked that they both had flaws and strengths, so there was no single right answer.

Favourite parts…

  • Min’s story about how they first understood what a lie was.
  • Alvis’ ‘of course I love you, why didn’t I say that before, wtf’ moment.
  • Caron as a surprise family figure (and also how they start hitting on the weird demonic studies professor, who can’t believe his luck).
  • Guessing what was up with the magical items before the wedding. Still didn’t manage to stop the gatecrash though. I’m not sure there is a way to stop that?
  • ‘I have several internal organs.’
  • All the creative things MC can do to impress people with illusions (and then stopping them from figuring out it was an illusion). Including making Cadafel mad by overwriting theirs with a better one.
  • Despina chiding MC for trying to have sex in the royal library, with ‘I gave you an entire mansion for that’.

Basically this game has heaps of cool/funny/engaging moments, and I think it was a good idea executed very well.

I really enjoyed this story, and fnished it a couple of times now. There’s three achievements I’m curious how to accomplish: fallen heroic sacrifice, power couple, and forever hold your peace. If anyone could clue in, please do.

Vague, not-directly-spoilery hints:

Fallen Heroic Sacrifice: Someone other than you is often described as a hero, and might lose their way if previous confrontations end inconclusively. When the time comes, can you convince them to be a hero again?
Power Couple: There are two people you could get a lot of power by marrying, and one of them is taken.
Forever Hold Your Peace: These are words spoken at a wedding. How can you permanently deal with someone who might be described as an intruder at a wedding?

Specific, very spoilery answers:

Fallen Heroic Sacrifice: If you try to fight Caron at the wedding but fail, they’ll show up during the final battle as an enemy. There’s an option to appeal to them as a former hero instead of fighting them.
Power Couple: You can marry Evander for political power without any romantic intentions (he knows, and is fine with it). There should be a few options that prompt this specifically, especially if you hang out with him a lot.
Forever Hold Your Peace: Successfully kill Caron at Letha and Despina’s wedding.

I love lying about everything, even when its completely unnecessary. This is all going to coming crashing down in a delightful way.

@abbytrevor Is it possible to kill Min since her human lie detector powers are such a threat to our secret ?

wow, this is probably my favorite choice of games title right now! the story was gripping from start to finish (which is a feat considering it’s length; 560k word😱)!, i loved that it felt like your choices actually mattered.

lovely writing, great characters and a super interesting plot. definitely worth the time spent.

@CreoleGuy519, no, but there are various ways to undermine their efforts. (Min uses they/them pronouns.) There exists a scenario in which Min can die, but it’s pretty rare (so far as I can tell in testing) and doesn’t really fall into the circumstances you’re looking for.

Thanks again to everyone who’s trying and enjoying the game! I really love hearing about people’s favorite parts and characters - @Elysian, most of the things you mentioned are some of the parts I most enjoyed writing too!

Definitely one of my favourite CoGs. Lying so hard it becomes the truth is just an amazing concept.

My apologies for using the wrong pronouns, and thank you for answering my question.

I want to say that this is one of my favorite ‘core’ CoGs to come out this year, and really enjoyed it. Other than a minor bug or two, I really only had a couple other quibbles.

  1. Humble vs. Aloof. I appreciate that pairing things up can be tough, but I didn’t see these two working as a pair. If anything, aloof is more likely to be with humble, not opposing it…if you think of someone as shy, they may not be very egotistical.

  2. Not really a quibble, but a slight regret that ff the Player died, I would have liked to see a romance option’s reaction in the epilogue. Especially with Meredith if the player opened the passage but died in the process.

How do you put spoilers on? I have a very specific question when some tells me how I will edit this comment how do you romance Alvis and Verity together? Alwayswanted to do that in one of these games

@Lys Glad you enjoyed! Depending on who you romanced and exactly how you died, there are conditions where you can see a bit of some romance options’ reactions, but I admit it’s not fully fleshed out. (I wrote…a lot of possible interlocking elegy stanzas.) There’s enough going on there that all the possible death consequences got a little hard to work in! As for Humble/Aloof, I think of it more as “defers to/blends in with others” vs. “commands/stands apart from others,” but you make a good point that they’re words that can be interpreted in multiple ways. And if you’re finding any bugs, please do send descriptions or screenshots to support!
