Hero Project: Redemption Season News and Discussion

Almost killing or killing Jenny is reason enough for me to hate Jury.
Especially because he was acquited if he killed Jenny.

@HalfOfLancelot Nope, I never liked him and never will after what he did with Jenny.

I’m pretty sure Jenny feels the same way.

I hate the idea that the breakup makes Jury stronger. It’s such a…cynical look at love. Like I can forgive it if we have the option to tell Jury that and he realizes it’s wrong and explains this to the previous MC and stuff, but…I like stories where people find strength in their loved ones. That’s one of the parts of the original trilogy I liked. I don’t want him to break it off to be a stronger character. He already is a strong character.

This though!

Hate him or not, Jury’s actually a really, really good character and that’s partially my bias speaking. But, being honest, Jury and Jenny are probably the most three-dimensional, multi-faceted characters in the Heroes Rise series. And I’m not saying that because they’re my favorites okay, but really, they kind of are but I really do think Sergi did a great job building them up and fleshing them out. Jury got this intense amount of character development the second half of the third series after having all of his villainous qualities amped in the previous installment. And Jenny went from relatable best-friend to one of the most bad ass characters in the series in just one episode.

Like, you’ve already got these great characters who’ve kinda featured a lot in the original trilogy. Sure, you can do a lot more with them (particularly Jury, in this case), but why? When they’ve already gone through multiple changes as characters and reached their height in the series with Jenny becoming a full fledged hero and Jury redeeming himself?

I’m surprised by the amount of people that are upset with Jury’s current state. I hated the Victons and only accepted Jury as an ally in heroFall because he was useful. So the fact he did the things he did in THP:RS comes as no surprise to me.

Black Magic spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned.
Secondly, Black Magic’s sudden change into Bright Magic left me stunned for a few seconds. I mean really now, she goes from mysterious hearthrob to smiley-smiley glittergirl? I know she had issues after her breakdown in Herofall but changing her persona like this is just weird. For me it also confirms that she is (a bit) unstable and is now desperately trying to keep her sanity by pretending everything is sunshine and rainbows. At first she reminded me of Hel (from SMITE) but later I think she’s more like Leliana (from Dragon Age). Albeit one with a more unstable mind. I think it is only a matter of time until she can no longer stay ‘bright and happy’ all the time and snaps, having a relapse into her more crazy behaviour. The dark side of the (life)force is calling to her, as it were. I could also be overthinking stuff, I tend to get a bit involved I guess.
One more edit, changing BM’s color from black to white/bright reinfoces the idea that black=evil, white=good. Changing your clothes isn’t gonna fix things, it’s your own effort that makes the difference.

I can imagine why the Poison Queen would be displeased with BM’s sudden image change.

Oh, I used some colorful expressions about the writer work. Propaganda BM. Why I am romance Ken? It’s Mara being mentally controlled by The tele tubbies?

I actually didn’t view it like that.

I thought re-christening himself “Bright Magic” symbolized BM’s decision to stop abusing his powers, the potential to turn everyone into a battery for his own gain, as well as his decision to be a proper hero. Turning his life around definitely won’t be as easy as a simple name change, but taking the name “Bright Magic” would be a constant reminder of his vow to try. I don’t doubt he’ll be tempted by the “dark side” in the future, but I’m hoping to see him stick to his guns and continue down the path of redemption he started on at the end of HeroFall.

I love all the different dimensions to Jury’s character. He’s the judge/mayor/president’s bratty son, the selfish jerk, the homecoming king-type guy everyone adores, the guy who’s totally useless in battle, the unwitting pawn, etc. I always laugh in the first Hero Project when we’re doing the obstacle course thing, and our options for utilizing Jury’s powers are a) super vision and b) hover. And he gets swatted aside like a fly no matter what.

I’m actually surprised that so many people like Jury. I didn’t hate him, but he annoyed me to no end and the only thing I disliked about his appearance in this game is that he had to appear at all. (Okay, mostly it’s because Lyra was one of the few characters I sorta liked and her sleeping with Jury just made me go ‘ew’ and ‘why not me tho’.)

However, while I don’t like Jury, having him and the MC just break up is a truly crappy move. The people who romanced him did it because they like him and because they like the thought of him and their hero together - in other words, all his appearance does is upset the people who care for him.
The people who don’t particularly care (like me) or outright hate him will simply either be annoyed that he shows up YET AGAIN or utterly ignore it.

Soooo the situation is pretty much lose-lose.

The vacuum always creeped me out lol

:scream:

That was its name?

YEAH! I have validation for every one of my conspiracy theories. “Crazy” “Unethical” “Impossible” Ha! Take that voices in my head. I was right.

No, but really on topic here…
I felt very railroaded from the very beginning, I liked how my character was. Especially the powers and the fact that your character was a martial artist, but I really couldn’t like any of the characters. I also didn’t feel very immersed in the game. I wanted a game that was about being a Hero or at the very least a super-powered being and his or her various adventures and struggles, but the political platform was (as everyone else has said) essentially shoved down our throats. I have no problem with using CoG as a platform for raising awareness of discrimination and various problems in society, but it also depends on how you do it. People come to CoG for the great writing, immersion of stories, and the variety of genres to choose from.

So far what I’ve experienced is characters I feel no real connection to, frustration at the fact that the MC has no actual knowledge of the previous series events (America fought a super-powered civil war that was broadcast nation-wide possibly world-wide, a powerful religious organization was essentially destroyed, If you didn’t stop the death wave than an entire part of a city was destroyed), and you’re gonna honestly say “Nope, I didn’t keep up with anything at all.” I found that… incredibly horrendous. Has no one said a thing to the MC? Not even JK? Not even as simple as “Hey, so what do you think is gonna happen to Ex-President Victon now that he has been impeached?”
Overall I’m just kind of in a state of numbness at what I read, but I still want to hold out hope for the series. I’ll be waiting to see what the sequel does, and then decide whether or not I should stick with this series.

I don’t think her Personality would change much, same Black Magic just without the insanity. I hope she stays the same anyway. Stubborn, selfish and fragile BM was what made her my favourite romance, if she’s now turned into the ‘perfect girly girl.’ Both my MC’s will punch her in the face. Or at the very least she could use her new light based powers to fry the baddies until they’re sunny side up.

Bright Magic go home. I want my crazy trainwreck Black Magic marrying The Revolutionary.

I doubt she is the “perfect girly girl”, I think she is now a little less selfish although.
I think people are thinking too much about BM change, she only let behind her infini powers, and that because it was affection her mind.
Her name and uniform color change is not “I was a bad girl, now I’m a good girl”. The name change to Bright was because of her light powers and to people still call her BM, and the uniform change was because of her light powers and to indicate a new start (like a white sheet).
She has grown up, but she is not a total different person.

Brown up? As opposed to grey up?

It is just a typo. I will correct it.

true. It only mentioned a power, name and costume change. Not Personality. So hooray if she’s still a tiny bit of bitch to the Rev!
