@Nerull when I possess Jeremy at the halloween party and ask Rita: “Do you… come here often?” it loops back to this.

@Nerull I was able to kill Violet before the exorcist even arrived. Everything was going well, but at some point The game acted like she was simply arrested. Another thing is that it’s currently pointless to use the chapter skip options, because your ghost will start with literally no power and you won’t be able to do anything except observing. Finally, at the night where Laura sleeps over, going into ambers room is a bit messy, because sometimes choices that are available when she’s awake, will change to choices where she’s asleep.
To be more specific, here it is.

When you look at Amber’s bathroom sweet, your choices wil change.

So basically, you can look at her bathroom suite twice. When she’s asleep and you look through the window, the choices will change back to the first bunch.
Okay, hopefully this will be my last edit for now. When I call Becky using poltergeist and welcome her with silence, The game will eventually act like I entered Olie’s dream.

Thank you, @Denzil_Melgior_Nagel! About the bugs you reported:

It was a missing *goto. Fixed!

Did this happen inside the ritual chamber or still the manor? I’ve looked through the code and couldn’t find an obvious error.

I moved this feature to its original segment after the power selection. It should be fine now

I was expanding this segment and wrote a *comment to recall it later, but I forgot to put the *goto back to the previous scene. It’s fixed.

Thanks!

@Nerull found this at the start of chapter 4’s pizza dinner. I appear to them in an attempt to interact. [Apparition]
Their reaction is far worse than when Lily saw Violet on the manor’s front yard many, many years ago. It’s a primal manifestation of fear, a proof of their utter horror upon your presence.

“It’s… it’s you,” Samantha whispers, her fingers grabbing a knife tightly.

They keep staring until you gradually disappear into thin air.

Michael, gasping, turns to his family and says in a hurried tone, “This is crazy. I don’t know how we’ve managed to live here all this time with this ghost.”"

Controlling Samantha’s movements, you make a mess out of the dining table and laugh like a complete madwoman.

Ollie and Amber stand up and move away, while Michael slowly walks to you, his hands raised.

“Please, Sam…” he says. “Stop. Stop!” Then, he roars: "Get out of "

When Michael grabs Samantha’s shoulders, she opens her eyes and blinks uncountable times—as you leave her body. Distressed, she looks around the trashed dining room.
I also found this.

All these choices can be done multiple times without disappearing, should you have the powers to do them. I also found this near the end of Chapter 4 when chatting with Michael and select “I heard… your conversation… with Nicole…” [Whisper]

Then suddenly it switches to this.

It also switches to the same scene when I choose “Why… don’t you support… Samantha?” [Whisper]
Finally, it also switches when I select “Michael… take… the sleeping pill…” [Whisper]
This last set of choices lacks a positive.

Found another bug.

Becky isn’t at the party, so look at Becky shouldn’t be available.

@Nerull And you see these exact eyes in front of you now—and they portray, just like that night over two decades ago, genuine fear. Lily revisits the entrance hall with an anxious gaze; underneath the irises you know so well, you notice the same hesitation in the night she showed you the crypt. It seems to you—a ghost—like an impossible complexion: the fear of imminent death, the bittersweet memories of returning to one’s home, the meeting with a dead spouse, and the shame for her messed-up family.

Lily then shakes her head, as if waking from a ghastly dream, and then is prompted to move forward and enter the manor. Behind her, Violet holds a pistol against her back.

Behind Violet, you see the trio of home invaders wielding their guns. And now, in the coldness of the night sky, they have no balaclava covering their faces: Short, Tall, and Redhead display their skeletal faces, the proof they are no more than dead men walking. The Brooks realize in horror as they gaze into the remains of what once were human visages, as the men rush into the home to make them hostages.

“Mom, what’s going on?”

“We’re being taken as hostages.”

“Yes, Ollie,” Amber says. “But—”

Violet Edgeworth shifts the aim of her pistol at the teenagers. Samantha tries to run to protect them at this sight, but Tall restrains her. Short keeps his gun pointed at Michael, and Redhead positions himself behind Amber and Ollie. With military precision, Violet Edgeworth and her minions take hold of the family.

Lily, her face now displaying more wrinkles and her eyes darker than you remember, turns to her sister. “Violet, please, leave them out of this! It’s between you and me, isn’t it?”

Violet ignores the plead. As an answer, she places the pistol on Lily’s chin—Amber and Ollie sigh out of tension. “Family reunion, at last. Isn’t it incredible that you waited all this time to get to see your pet ghost again?”

Lily gulps and looks exactly at where you are.

“We know you’re there, Alex.” On Violet’s face, you notice a mixture of satisfaction and intrigue; she seems to be waiting for this bittersweet moment since your death. Upon hearing this, the Brooks exchange looks between Violet and the empty place where she is looking, inside the haunted manor.

Appear to Lily Edgeworth, to the Brooks, and to Violet. [Apparition]
Attempt to possess Violet. [Possession]
Possess the Brooks, one at a time. “I’m here. And here. And here. And here, too.” [Possession]
Try to remove Violet’s weapon from her hand. [Poltergeist]
Throw a painting at Violet. [Poltergeist]
“Well, ‘alive’ is a kind of overstatement, but I’m here, yes.” [Whisper]
“I’m here for you, Lily Edgeworth.” [Whisper]
“What is your plan, Violet?” [Whisper]
Appear beside Violet. “Boo, motherfucker.” [Apparition and Whisper]
Appear behind the armed trio. “These guys again? Do I have to kick their asses again?” [Apparition and Whisper]
Grab the gun on the floor and shoot Violet. [Poltergeist]
Watch what Violet and the armed men do next. [Proceed]
My first move is to throw a painting at Violet. [Poltergeist]
It is not a calculated move, but you perform it with ease.

Violet has little time to react and defend herself from the giant painting that comes swirling at her; she tries to avoid it, but as Lily ducks exactly in time, the painting catches Violet’s forehead, opening a wound that gushes blood.

Violet’s thralls repeatedly shoot at the painting in the following seconds, causing the Brooks to cover their ears. Ollie attempts to run away, and as he does, Violet shoots at the wall next to him—making him freeze.

“Nobody fucking moves,” she says, the blood running down her face. She looks in your direction, having a little difficulty knowing where you are. “Now, I want to remind you, Alex, that even though we don’t exactly like each other… we are still family. And it hurts me to know that you hurt your family.”

She aims her pistol at Lily’s leg. And shoots.

“I want you to know that I can do that too.”

Violet’s thralls come to help her and clear the bleeding, so desperate and willing as if they themselves got hit. Violet, in turn, seems not to care about the blood running from her face and has her gazed upon Lily.

Samantha and Michael kneel down behind Lily, who tries to fight the seemingly excruciating pain. Ollie and Amber stand behind them, not knowing exactly what to do.

Throw a flower vase at the invaders. [Poltergeist]
I go check on Lily.
My next move here is to throw the flower vase.
The vase flies directly at Violet’s thralls; she has only a second respite to curse at this. It hits Tall squarely on the head, and he bounces back—letting his handgun drop to the floor.

Appear to Lily Edgeworth, to the Brooks, and to Violet. [Apparition]
Attempt to possess Violet. [Possession]
Possess the Brooks, one at a time. “I’m here. And here. And here. And here, too.” [Possession]
Try to remove Violet’s weapon from her hand. [Poltergeist]
“Well, ‘alive’ is a kind of overstatement, but I’m here, yes.” [Whisper]

Appear behind the armed trio. “These guys again? Do I have to kick their asses again?” [Apparition and Whisper]
Grab the gun on the floor and shoot Violet. [Poltergeist]
Watch what Violet and the armed men do next. [Proceed]
Finally, I grab the gun.
It happens before Violet—or the ghouls—can realize what you are doing. You pick up the pistol from the floor and aim it at the necromancer, whose confident gaze melts into a desperate plea.

Almost unwillingly, you materialize yourself as you point the weapon barrel at Violet’s head. Her last sight in life, then, is of your own very eyes aimed at her—the eyes of a ghost, a survivor, and a murderer. With two quick shots that resonate throughout the manor, Violet falls down with blood splattering from her skull.

These are all the steps I took to get rid of the necromancer. If you just play on for a few more pages, the game will eventually start acting like she was arrested. Also, my apologies for the wall of text. Blind screen reader user here.

I remember playing this a while ago! So glad to see it still being updated  I really love the whole concept of playing as a ghost haunting a house and a bunch of people.

I only encountered 1 bug so far that made the game unplayable. At the very beginning of Chapter 3 where you interact with your spouse it says ‘line 129: No selectable options’ after you pick every option available.

Oh … wow. Wow! This game is amazing. I thought it sounded good to start with, but I was not expecting to laugh out loud and shiver in frightful anticipation and have flashbacks to 1990s computer adventure games, and I certainly wasn’t expecting to care this much.

There are a few structural issues. I assume you’re aware of most of them. There are continuity issues like the text comparing Amber’s room to Oliver’s when I had never been in Oliver’s room, or text being selectable earlier in a conversation than makes sense.

One of the things I found most distracting was word choice. There are many instances of using a word that’s not quite right for the sentence it’s in. If this was deliberate to create a sense of the uncanny, well done. If not, I’ll point out some of the ones that felt wrong to me.

“detain” means to hold something back. I’d go with “have,” or “possess” if you want to sound a little fancier. Maybe even “manifest,” if you want t to get really fancy.

When “couple” as a noun refers to people, it denotes a romantic partnership. I’d go with “pair” in this case.

I chose an option that was supposed to end the dream, but it didn’t end the dream.

Lord of the Flies

I’d just go with “frozen”

“scan the room,” perhaps?

He won’t what?

“smooth,” perhaps?

“looming sense of frustration,” perhaps?

I don’t think I was supposed to get both of these paragraphs.

I am just loving everything about this game!

Question: what year does this take place? In Ch1 it said 2022, but in Ch3 it says 2020. If it’s 2020, the reference to Jordan Peele’s Nope is anachronistic. If it’s 2022, Rita’s joke about Trump banning things from Mexico is anachronistic.

Throughout this scene, (lily = true) and (lily = false) are reversed, so that the game treated me as married to Lily when I was actually married to William.

Asking all questions here will eventually trigger an error.
Alert! line 298: No selectable options

The first two options won’t disappear when selected, allowing you to visit those scenes multiple times.

The first two options can be selected multiple times here also.

Step into Ollie’s sleeping mind also won’t disappear when selected.

Look at Becky should be unavailable when she’s not at the party.

Invade Becky’s dream should be unavailable when she’s not at the party.

When I possess Amber and open the box, the game switches to the contents of the love letter even though my artefact of worldly connection is the type writer or anything else.

The text here mentions a flashlight, but Amber already left the attic with it.

Samantha didn’t throw a note in the trash can, because I never wrote the note in the first place.

Haven’t played this demo ever since the Halloween party chapter. I really love how the comparison of the Edgeworth family and the Brooks family – or at least how Amber and Ollie are similar to Lily and William respectively. Still sad that my MC still can’t bind for life to William near the end.

I may find a bug in CH5… …@Nerull
During the fight, I choose these options: nod at RO and fight V together–blow out the torches–seize Redhead’s pistol and shoot V–pull the trigger. So my understanding is that Violet and her three thralls are dead, the Brooks are all alive and my RO is injured. But the game then says two ghosts and one human (RO is dead??) and the option to haunt RO is unselectable … …
Also tried the option to stab Violet in the back later, in this path RO should be alive but is considered dead somehow… … Oh and one more thing I want to ask, is there some way to make sure V stay dead while everyone else lives?
WHERE IS MY HAPPY ENDING LET ME HAUNT MY RO PLZ :smiling_face_with_tear:

@AletheiaKnights
Thank you for the feedback and the reports! The last update should have fixed most of the things you’ve reported.

@Denzil_Melgior_Nagel
Thank you for pointing out all these errors. I’ll get it fixed by the next update.

@Umbreonpanda
Couldn’t you? If you reach the scene where McKinnon and RO come to you in the attic by the end of Chapter 5, and RO is still alive, you should be able to choose to haunt them forever. If your RO is Lily, you move with her to New York; if you’re with William, you move to California.

@RiverReed
Thanks for pointing that out! It seems some variables got mixed up at some point. I’ll get it fixed soon!

And yes, there are some ways to kill Violet and save everyone else. Off the top of my head, you can kill her before she reaches the crypt OR if you got inside the ritual chamber, by deciding to fight her before she offers you a deal.

@Nerull

At this scene, blow out the torches, seize a torch and hit Redhead, seize Redhead’s pistol and shoot Violet and finally, pull the trigger. Following these steps will also cause the game to behave like she got arrested.

Agree to haunt Lily until the end of her life is unavailible.

The choice is still unselectable for me. I guess the game considered RO to be dead because I also got the game saying two ghosts and one human. My MC killed Violet and RO is still alive.

Small suggestion&question!

Can we have see more things/do some interactions in MC’s own Epilogue? For example I remember when MC is alive we can scare the kids in Halloween with RO when they do trick or treat. Since now MC is a real ghost with cool abilities👀…I’ll be honest, I want to do more things with RO. And not to mention the things we can do when hunting monsters with McKinnon. Oh and the big bad necromancer endingis cool as hell, though poor McKinnon… This ending specifically gives me an impression that there is a sequel coming.

Also want to ask if the Brooks’ epilogues are affected by MC’s evil/benevolence? Like are their opinions on different MCs different? My MC has dreamwalk ability and Oillie finds out, will Amber still go to therapy asking about it?

I ran into this bug as well. Violet is dead and Lily is alive, but unselectable.

Just begin the demo and I think I found a little bug, because I think the word “fuck” is missing here

It’s in the first morning with the family
Also, I love the game so far
