Wait, this one? After all this time? Woah!
it’s always so nice seeing wips getting worked on again after all this time!
p.s. i havent read this yet but im going to fix that by reading it rn lol
Me, the ghost haunting the home of a recently moved in family, being the most friendliest and helpful ghost to said family.
Jokes aside, welcome back esteemed author.
It’s so good, to be honest, I feel is already complete and could be put on the store. I eager to see what you gonna add
Be careful–some ghosts can mess up with your dreams.
Thanks! To keep things short: I’ve been working on Unsupervised for over a year now and couldn’t keep up with editing and updating Ghost Simulator. At some point, I felt it’d be shameful to become active in this project again without having something new to show, and it has snowballed. So the time has passed and here we are. That was, of course, a very bad idea.
Now that Unsupervised isn’t a secret project anymore, I have the time to tackle Ghost Simulator’s structural and narrative issues, finish what’s left, and submit it.
So, thanks for the support and for believing in this project, really.
Yeps. I’ve never thought about canceling Ghost Simulator. It went on hiatus–a very long and miscalculated hiatus.
Thank you! There’s still a lot of stuff I need to work on, though. You’ll see some new scenes, changed structure, and the epilogues with the next updates.
I’m glad this game is back again. I was rather fond of the Brooks family and being a benevolent and protective house spirit to them. I also liked the ending wherein MC joins the exorcist to hunt down necromancers and other real dangers.
@Nerull I’m happy you’re back and to be honest I really really love your story
so I’m really hoping this book will see the end of it’s journey
So glad to see that this is in the expected releases for the year.
Just replayed the demo since it said it was updated this month.
Is the released version still gonna have the God Mode? Im not gonna lie, going super ghost is a BLAST.
Also, noticed while playing. There are a bunch of scenes where “xxx” is listed in areas? Not sure if intentional, at first i thought it was only during the brooks kissy kissy scenes. But, then a few happened at other things like potential epilouge areas.
And lastly, the epilogues in the demo are…a trainwreck…
It seemed like it was bouncing between scenes in potential epilouges? Like one page Mike was with Sam and on the next Nicole had her hand on his thigh? And then he was back with Sam.
Did this with Amber’s and what i think were Ollie’s friends? Amber’s note to Ghost is always blank for me as well.
All this aside, cannot WAIT for the actual release, cause this is one of the W.I.Ps o have binge played the most
@SeaScorpian
It’s fixed, thanks! It was a typo big enough to crash the game.
@GhostofGrief
Thanks for playing and for the support! I don’t intend to remove the cheat mode from the full version. Many players seem to enjoy it, so I see no reason to get it edited out.
That’s a “note to self” to edit these segments. This way, it’s easier to search through the code for scenes that still need to be written/added/edited/removed. It has no narrative meaning whatsoever.
That’s even a compliment! I basically uploaded the epilogues to start testing them myself; the code there is still very messy. I haven’t “publicly” announced the demo yet because there are still scenes I’m working on and that may cause broken/incongruent segments. I updated the files to make the demo end in Chapter 5 for now.
It’s a very funny and cool concept
sadly at the end I got an error and it was irritating with the scenery with Violet and William and the Brooks xD I’m looking forward to read more and sadly the safe system is broken.
When published will this be a free or paid game? I’d be more than willing to pay for it. AWESOME game & concept.
I’ve been updating the demo quite frequently in the past few days, so your saves might be at risk
Anyway, the epilogues should be fully playable now, and I’ve added the “Jump to scene X” feature again.
I’ll keep updating the game with edits/new segments, so expect changes especially in late Chapter 4 and Chapter 5.
Thanks a lot! Do you remember exactly where did you get this error? There was a lot of incomplete segments in Chapter 5 (there are still some of them, actually), so I can imagine your game crashed at some point. Sorry!
Thank you! It will be published as a paid Hosted Games title.
I just gave this a try again, but ran into a bug almost immediately. When I first got the option to explore the house, I went to the bedroom and went into the husband’s dream, but for some reason when I selected ‘Who’s Nicole?’, it took me to the office to observe Samantha instead…
At the first glance and read this concept is sick as hell and very interesting premise. Although, there’s plenty of issues and plot inconsistencies littered throughout the book.
- After chapter 3, every time you chose an option, it would just stay there and not disappear, which is annoying and doesn’t consist with the previous chapters.
- There’s plenty of choices within the book where it feels pointless to even choose an option when it obviously has no effect on the plot or characters
- Seemingly whenever you do a haunting or present yourself, all the characters just shrug at looking at you or ignore your whispers.
- Even when discovering if Lily/William is your romantic partner, they are not listed as that i the “information” tab.
-Clicking on the option, “Do I have a part in it” as it is one of the options, essentially ignored and cut straight to the next scene.
It was a missing *goto that should lead the reader back to that “hub.” It’s fixed ![]()
@FoolishReader
I’m sorry you experienced that. As stated on the demo’s opening page, it’s likely that the player will find some inconsistencies/redundancies/bugs in this draft. As for the things you reported:
That’s a *hide_reuse issue, I’ll get it fixed with the next update.
Which choices made you feel that way? Was it a specific scene/chapter? Some consequences are only seen late in the game. Also, some choices have primarily an effect on the character variables (terror and belief, mostly).
This definitely shouldn’t be happening. Where did this occur in your playthrough?
That was probably a missing “rememberedRo” variable activation. It should be working now.
Your RO was William, right? There was an if statement in that choice that only acknowledged Lily. It’s also fixed.
It wasn’t a bad read at all and i enjoyed it. since i forgot how to snip text to respond too I’m just going to number them lol.
- Yay
- Throughout the playthrough, interacting with Ollie, Amber, etc felt semi-pointless, as if your choices just were going to lead to the same outcome. There were multiple instances and (I bet it’s mainly just my personal opinion and it may very well differ from others) to be honest, i would need to do another playthrough and point out some examples which, I’m too tired for.
- Let me rephrase, throughout the story progression, every time you did like a whisper or appeared Infront of them, they would get scared and shit themselves but then in the near future act as if nothing happened. I just feel like there’s no direct impact into the story besides the family dinner scene and how they all feel about the ghost…
4.another Yay - No, It was Lily and another another yay
Don’t get me wrong, I liked the story and good for a demo, but just by chapter 3, my immersion is broken.
Also, how do i haunt lily forever?
@FoolishReader Thank you, really! BTW, you can just select the quote you want from the message itself and a small pop-up should appear. You then click it and the quoted segment should show up in the message box ![]()
I think this might happen due to some reasons:
-
Continuity errors, some of which still plague the current draft.
-
“Unsmooth” transitions between scenes that are not continuity errors per se, but fail to acknowledge every past possibility. This tends to happen when multiple *gotos lead to the same *label. I’ll keep an eye out for that when revising the first chapters in the next few days, as these parts can be quite tricky to spot when just reading the code. Thanks!
-
The narrative itself. In the first chapters, the characters tend to “ignore” or “dismiss” the ghostly presence; they won’t straightforwardly assume that their house is haunted and there’s a ghost talking to them. These interactions start to gradually happen with higher “belief” values. By Chapter 4, it should be clear that the house is haunted and some characters should have direct interactions/conversations with the ghost. That all said, I’ll revise their reactions when I get to Chapters 1 & 2 again.
Do you mean the final choice, " #Agree to haunt ${roName} until the end of ${rXis} life."? This should be accessible if you defeated/killed Violet (= you did not join her) and RO is still alive. A variable activation is missing in some early pathways, I just noticed it. These segments should be revised with the next update.
Whatever option I choose always leads to this.
When he sees you, Jeremy cracks up. He laughs so hard that he places his hands helplessly on his belly, and he leans forward, making an effort not to fall on the ground. Dave and Ollie, however, remain petrified as they stare into your translucent gaze. They look at each other, then, and scream out of sheer panic.
I’m sooo going to have to buy it when released then ![]()
