When I think ‘Magical Pets’, Pokemon comes to mind. Perhaps, you mix and match parts of different animals, colored in spectacular color patterns (ie: pink, purple, lime green, etc) to create new ‘Magical’ creatures.
@Hell_Satan Although dolphins are mammals, they physically need water to survive, otherwise they will become dehydrated and die after a couple of hours.

Yes, I was planning to make them fly (more like levitate) since that would mean an easier way of moving around, but only if they wished too… since the pets will also have their own personalities.

Yeah, the game will mostly be about the mc’s life and how he/she adjusts to their shape-shifting companion but I will also explore their power since the mc will want to discover the origins of their mysterious pet. Also the mc will have a rival/stalker with a magical pet.
Oh yeah, forgot to answer that. They will be visible to other people and that’s where the fun part begins! 
It will be so funny.
