The Godfather bookends the game. She appears right at the start, and possibly at the end. (I’ve not written the end yet though.) She sets the scene and she’s an important thematic element.
Part of character generation is “How much are you willing to change yourself and compromise who you are in order to keep her happy?”
There are some choices you simply do not get because of her. You cannot name your character, for instance, because she is dictating from a very small list of names that you can have. You’re a fairy, names are power, and she’s simply not allowing you this power over yourself.
You cannot choose various aspects of your appearance, again because of her. You can be anything that you want to be, as long as it fits with her approval. At some points she’ll simply snatch the choice away from you, and declare your choice to be something else, and there’s nothing that you can do about it other than be frustrated.
The list’s frustrating and arbitrary and how much do you want to fight her on it?
I’ve still to go over everything I’ve written and add in options of whether to argue with her or not on each point, or to change your mind. Perhaps with a ticking meter of your rebellion against her and the standards she sets, or your own frustration at the way she’s trying to shape you.
I’m hoping to make it so you can try and do everything you can to please her, or you can do your best at just being the sort of Godmother you want to be.
Will she then approve of you? No, because you’re a Flower Fairy and she does not believe that Flower Fairies are suitable for being Godmothers.
If you complete your mission perfectly, will she be willing to change her mind? Well wait and see. There’s at least one ending where you can completely change her impression of you.
I’m hoping it will be fun.
