I never realized that Tiffany’s “I think We’re Alone Tonight” was a cover until about a month ago… so don’t feel bad. lol. I still like her cover better

Heh! I never realised either.

Her version’s better!

Wow the same people did Mony Mony as well. (I prefer Billy Idol’s version though.)

Hmm and now I’m listening to Tainted Love covers! Ah distractions.

Hmmm.

Do I assume certain knowledge of the Fairy Godmother

“Well, you might as well choose your name. What did you have in mind?” The Godfather asks.

Names are power, both literally and figuratively. They shape who you are. You’ve had many names in the past, you’ll have more in the future, but for now you need to pick your Godmother Name! As a Flower Fairy your choice of name is simple, you just need to choose the best plant in the world!

Or stick the words into the Godfather’s voice and have her explain things.

“Now, as I am certain you are aware, names are power, both literally and figuratively. They shape who you are and bring about certain benefits. Of course, since you are a mere Flower Fairy, you must choose the name of a flower to make your own.”

*if (bored) She’s being boring again. You already know all of this. YAWN!!! What’s with all the lectures. You want to get to Godmothering.

“I asked you,” she interrupts your thoughts, “what name did you have in mind?”

Of course here I am picking at stuff I’ve already written, instead of pushing onwards. I suppose it doesn’t matter.

I like the latter - but you can mix the two if you wanted too ( I know… more options :anger:)

Yeah I like the latter best too. It was the former in my file until I went BORING! Lacking personality! Infodump! Give the infodump to the Fairy of Infodumping!

Yeah rewriting the infodumps into Godfather lectures is certainly working.

SOOOOOOOO BORING!!!

I am trying to make the player dislike the Godfather without actually saying “you hate the Godfather and she is the worst!” I’m sure some people will like her and want to impress her though, so going to need to add in that option.

So should be choices of whether to do as she says and be a total kiss-ass, or rebel against her. Not that either really changes her reaction to you.

What I really liked about Shinon in Tellius is that as racist, pessimistic and bitter as he was, he played devil’s advocate for world-building.

He was an asshole that through his asshattery and salty info dumping, showed you that a) most of this fantasy world isn’t as open towards your goody-goody ideals, and b) tested characters that wouldn’t often seek out confrontation by themselves, such as the peaceful, quiet or loner types, with confrontation stomping up to them and being a giant racist alcoholic, essentially providing the characters with an excuse for emotion and/or character development.

He essentially played devil’s advocate for the story, talking about things in such a pessimistic and critcal way that revealed their negative and unsavoury sides, but if anyone else had said it, it would have hurt their character and the player’s opinion of them. Sometimes you just gotta have a character people hate, but who… has a point, y’know?

Sometimes, even though he’s not saying it very nicely, he does have a point, or at least reveals an assumption the general unknowing populace would have.

It’s like… having a person be accidentally transphobic here, so I have to infodump on them, and if they’re an ass, then I become an ass, and then RETowers tells me off, and I promise to calm down, and that’s my character development thrust upon me.

In a story way, anyway. So yes, I do love to hate assholes, or at least annoying people. From a story perspective, anyway. Real life can get out.

Ooh, this looks really interesting, not to mention fun to play! It’ll be so much fun wreaking havoc and matchmaking. :smiling_imp:

And you’ve got my curiosity piqued about the Godfather; are you planning on having her be an asshole like @Laguz said or does she just annoy the MC? Or either, depending on the MC’s opinion?

The Godfather bookends the game. She appears right at the start, and possibly at the end. (I’ve not written the end yet though.) She sets the scene and she’s an important thematic element.

Part of character generation is “How much are you willing to change yourself and compromise who you are in order to keep her happy?”

There are some choices you simply do not get because of her. You cannot name your character, for instance, because she is dictating from a very small list of names that you can have. You’re a fairy, names are power, and she’s simply not allowing you this power over yourself.

You cannot choose various aspects of your appearance, again because of her. You can be anything that you want to be, as long as it fits with her approval. At some points she’ll simply snatch the choice away from you, and declare your choice to be something else, and there’s nothing that you can do about it other than be frustrated.

The list’s frustrating and arbitrary and how much do you want to fight her on it?

I’ve still to go over everything I’ve written and add in options of whether to argue with her or not on each point, or to change your mind. Perhaps with a ticking meter of your rebellion against her and the standards she sets, or your own frustration at the way she’s trying to shape you.

I’m hoping to make it so you can try and do everything you can to please her, or you can do your best at just being the sort of Godmother you want to be.

Will she then approve of you? No, because you’re a Flower Fairy and she does not believe that Flower Fairies are suitable for being Godmothers.

If you complete your mission perfectly, will she be willing to change her mind? Well wait and see. There’s at least one ending where you can completely change her impression of you.

I’m hoping it will be fun.

Good to see you’re making progress. :+1:

Well I do hope you’ll keep height as one of the things you can fight her on, my mc is certainly not going to settle for small or tiny, or even average if I can help it. Oh and of course the choice to look like a cute guy. Those are the two big ones, even more important than clothing.

Oh and happy forum anniversary to our very own Procrastinator Pigeon. :champagne:

It might be a bit dark for you, but have you ever played Alexander Ocias’ Loved?

You, some strange small furry creature, live in a world of no colour and little detail. A voice tells you to do things, rewarding you with parental-esque praise if you obey, and insults, abuses and degrades you if you do not. It constantly misgenders you (binary only).

If you choose to obey the world remains bleak and monochrome, but becomes more detailed, showing that you are indeed underground. If you do well and complete everything the voice tells you to it stops misgendering you.

If you do not, the world becomes more blurry and hard to navigate, but explodes into bright, poppy squares of colour. When you finally escape from the voice, having disobeyed it all the way, it lets you go freely, saying only “I loved you, always”.

Yes I have played Loved. I’d forgotten all about it, but it was such an interesting concept. It’s been a long time since I played it though.

@idonotlikeusernames

You can most certainly present yourself as an attractive, if admittedly androgynous man, if that’s what you wish to. Just as you can present as an attractive, but androgynous woman. Or cute if you’d rather. Or beautiful/handsome. (Although not inhumanely so.) The Godfather will not allow you to be ugly or scary in any way, even if you want to. (She’d also veto sexy but that’s not even available as a choice at the moment.) Everyone’s reactions to you are more “Fairy!” first and foremost anyway.

There may be an opportunity to acquire a moustache at one point in the party.

I have thought in great depth about the height issue. You will most certainly be able to argue with her about it. You definitely do not need to be happy. There shall be work arounds.

I’ve probably written up far more about my various character heights and reasons why then anyone else on this forum.

But, as a dandelion, is their first reaction, “it’s a fuckening furry! who invited a furry to this party!! helen was it you. you slattern”

Well I don’t think you’ll actually beat my Napoleon complex on a bad day, but then again my Napoleon complex has never made me write up anything.
Point is our mc’s in your game can fight for their height when there is still a chance of success.

Well those can be kind of the same thing, right? It’s certainly what I mean when I call certain movie star guys “cute”, it’s a different cute than the one I have had directed at me until my late twenties, which was cute, as in child-like (and perhaps of above average appearance, but again only in a childish or young teenage way). :rage:

WHAT IF WHEN I CALL A D00D CUTE IT MEANS BOTH

Nah!

It’s a costume party, they expect costumes!

Besides, they’re used to it. And really, if you do see someone wearing an odd outfit, it’s probably best not to insult them, even if it’s not a costume party, just in case they end up cursing you.

Well unless it’s Chickenbunny. But that’s since her outfit is really, really bad.

I did, in fact once go to a Halloween Masquerade Ball, and one of my friends wore a fur suit. Everyone in their fancy suits, and dresses, and my doggy friend. :stuck_out_tongue:

@idonotlikeusernames

Well when you’re a fairy, it’s going to be like

What happened to the scary, strange, otherworldly fairies or fey kind, you know the non-Disney ones. Those came in all kinds of shapes colours and sizes, including tall & majestic. Of course we are barred from otherworldly beauty too, but my mc will fight very hard indeed to make sure their height is at least slightly above average.

And what about Dragon then?

Still if you do let us fight her on some points height is the obvious one where my mc will really try to resist inadequate options with all they’ve got until, hopefully we’re at least (a bit above average) height for a human guy of the period. Like the real Napoleon was, I’ll note. :unamused:

Yes. They definitely exist.

The smart characters will be treating you extremely cautiously and trying not to get on your bad side because of this. Because you do not, under any circumstances, annoy the Fairies. No one wants to be cursed.

In terms of power there’s a single character in the game that’s more powerful than you are, and that’s The Godfather. You’re a brand new Godmother on your first mission, and she’s your Boss. She has power over you, and power to dictate how you interact with the human world, and what your dress-code will be. And she’s trying to force you into a specific mould to conform to how she wishes you to present yourself.

Is she trying to force an extremely powerful, alien, creature to appear cute and harmless so that the humans don’t get scared and intimidated? Is she just offering helpful guidance to someone who’s never been to the human world before, and is on their first mission, and in need of as much assistance as possible? Is everything done with good intentions?

Dragon believes he’s the largest, most powerful and magnificent creature in the room.

Do you really want to get into a fight with Dragon to prove him wrong?

He would win in a battle of whiskers against you, for he has the most magnificent moustache. He might also defeat you in an eating contest (although he’s not at all impressed by the complete lack of any meat at this party (other than guests, guests are technically meat but it’s rude to eat them). He definitely has a better Princess than you do, or at least so he’ll claim.

So I guess that’s how we can tell the smart ones are then. And can we take that to mean that we might get a chance to curse anyone? Or are there other types of spells we can employ?:sparkles:

Also, now you’ve got me curious how Dragon got invited to the Ball. Is Dragon’s dislike of eating guests because it’s too rude well known, or do people just not consider him a threat for another reason? Or did they just decide to invite a dangerous firebreather regardless?

Can we boop the snoot? Can we smooch the snoot? Snoot?
