I’ve played a lot of choice of games and hosted games but a got to say, this one really gets me. I played the original demo as well and the detail is just stunning and I really love playing such a introspective character. It kinda of reminds me of Max Payne in a way (or at least the way I played it did) and I really hope this gets finished one day.
@Mxm124 - Red Hood is my completely guilty pleasure, I especially loved the pre-new 52 run… The whole Batfamily was gold back when Bruce were dead. Oh how I wish Red Hood and the Outlaws had managed to be as good as it could have been.
@Interestedparty, @Zilla - West Coast Avengers is actually not a bad comparison power level wise, it’s somewhere in that interesting zone of middle-rung heroes, like back in Justice League International or Suicide Squad. As for Lying… I get what you mean, and yes, there will be an element of that coming into play later (yes, I track some of your behaviour).
@Jerred_Manns - Yes, the suit will be your permanent outfit. That will be made clear in the next chapter, because it’s time to suit up and get this show on the road. And, I have not seen BvS so… can’t answer for that. Also, thank you
@Razgriz - I am really trying to get people away from playing this as a game, and instead getting them to play it as a story. Yes, stats will rise and fall, but they are more an indication of what you are capable of. Having a lots of anonymity will help keep you secret and safe, but you won’t have the same supervillain arrogance to intimidate people. I guess I am just trying to reward people for getting a feel for their character and just play them the way they are, you are punished (or it is harder) when you are breaking away from your personality. That way it gets harder to game the system and take the best choice depending on the circumstances. You just can’t do that. Also, the really vital ‘stats’ are kept track of behind the scenes, so you’ll never be able to see them anyway…
Just to show how I try to plot things, this was my conversation map to the last conversation with Ortega in the park. Things go back and forth and interconnect. Of course it turned out more complicated than this once I started coding it, but this is what every chapter looks like.
Huh. Well, if I read that right, I think I followed the chart perfectly to the ‘good end’ without even meaning to. I mean, I kinda figure there’ll be no such thing as a happy ending here, but I’ll stick along for the ride. It’ll be worth it. I just hope Ortega can forgive my MC, assuming he makes it out alive. I honestly have no idea what my MC would do if that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
Edit: HA. I did not read that right. I went from left to right on the chart. Goodness, now I can see how that can be complicated!
@Lithophene - Good end and bad end are more from Ortega’s perspective really… Do you part as friends or do you argue and walk off in a huff? Also, it’s not entirely accurate to the finished product, things changed and were revamped and added. Just wanted to show people why I was worried about things sounding weird since you can arrive at the same point in a conversation from many different moods/directions. Scripting things like this is fascinating.
I really enjoyed the update. And like others here I’m also unable to flirt with Ortega in the puppet. I headcanoned ages ago that my MC had had some feelings for Ortega, since their Sidestep days, which are still present. Just buried/denied a lot. ^^’
And my MC is totally on team “I’m doing this because I feel like I have to and don’t have any other choice, but I don’t like it and my levels of self-loathing are pretty high” along with team “Would probably jump at redemption if they felt it would be achievable.”
I really hope there will be some sort of redemption route. Hopefully without a completely heartbreaking/tearjerker ending (I’m guessing there’ll be plenty of both during said route). ;_;
Regarding redemption: I just feel like if there’s one person who, maybe not necessarily understanding/forgive at first, but at least would listen, if the MC got to tell their entire story, all the way from the beginning at the Farm, it would be Ortega.
Btw I would like to say how glad I am for the way you’ve designed the changes in relationship.
I especially want to applaud you for the entire scene with Ortega (male in my playthrough). Even if you got angry and yelled/argued there weren’t any changes in the friendship %. Only when you completely walked away from him, did it take a hit, but not extreme amounts.
I’ve tried too often in games, being practically forced to cater to some NPC, or else their relationship stat would plummet, regardless of how my character would feel and their prior relationship. It was really refreshing that my MC was allowed to get angry, immature and hurtful and Ortega’s friendship stayed the same. Because while he might not understand what the problem is, he’s not going to condemn the MC for being human. Especially since it’s seems like the MC, regardless of how we play them, tends to bottle their feelings up, which they’ve also done all the way back during their hero days. Which he is aware of.
Just played this for the first time, and wow, that was intense. It sure lives up to the hype, @malinryden. And Ortega is awesome (just wish he’d lose the mustache… like, seriously, those things are annoying.)
Oh, and I’m joining team
Thank you! And there are plans for Ortega’s mustache…
My first evil act as a villain will be shaving off Ortega’s mustache, definitely
I am not kidding, depending on certain of your choices, Ortega will lose the mustache. That has always been planned… not gonna tell you which choices tho
Oh, yes! Can’t wait for the next chapter, then!
What I really meant to ask, was, how far are you willing to take the “villain” route? As in, will I be literally slaughtering all the “heroes” with my new suit? Are you going to tackle that like Deadpool Kills The MARVEL Universe? Because that would be sweet. Like, really, really sweet.
Am I the only one playing with a female Ortega? All this mustache talk.
@Jerred_Manns - You will be able to kill people, yes. If you’re willing to go all the way, the game won’t stop you even if your conscience might. You’ll get a first hint of that soon.
I am too, cougars are hot
I was going for more of an older female mentor type thing… But that’s cool too.
Speaking of female Ortega, I think this is a bug about Ortega gender, when you are having the Flashback about the Pyschopathor:
“Score one for his reflexes you suppose.”
The Ortega in my game is female.
AUGH! Thank you. Bloody pronoun. Missed added the genderadaptive coding to that one, thanks a lot. It will be fixed next update.
But I like Ortega’s moustache pls don’t kill it… I must curl it.
Anyway hello I have been a long time lurker and finally decided to make an account.
This story is what made me check choice of game forums frequently. Your writing is very gripping and I very much wonder what made de MC decide to choose this road. I like the fact that you as a reader don’t get all the reasons and answers immediately, keeps you hooked . And the character feel like people with their own feelings, motives and lives.
Now there is another thing I have been wondering about, is it intentional that the female (don’t know about the male) mc doesn’t get the long hair option? (perhaps with an I don’t care how long my hair gets attitude)
Your male (and female I believe) puppet do get that option and it stood out to me.
Keep up the great work btw, you’re a very good writer.
@KrasnaAmbrosia - YES. There is a reason for that, neither the male nor the female MC do… Why? The reason can be guessed at if you apply logic, but it will be made clear in the future. Also, thank you.
Ooohhh, I have some suspicions to a possible reason now. Well thanks for making it clear that it’s not some kind of coding error.
