Same thing happened to my MC. She didn’t care about casualties before, but after Argent asked her she definitely planned not to kill anymore.
Actually because of that scene I’m planning now a replay where my MC doesn’t even start to kill in the first place. A thief doesn’t need to do that anyway so…

It has nothing to do with feeling sorry or crying as a victim. No changes even if the direct first choice “I was” is chosen.
I didn’t do the code diving so I can’t tell about the stats.
I didn’t make a telepathy hidden MC either.

The first thing Sidestep does in book 1 is forcefully take over Argents body and have her attack the other Rangers. You getting maimed back is for that.

Agreed to work with her on the regenerator, was blatantly unapologetic about invading her mind, told her to get over it, flirted with her… Wounded lip, but that was all. You can also be unapologetic about killing people when she confronts you over it, and she… Takes it pretty well. Sort of.

You literally take control of her body and force her to do things she doesn’t want to and mess her up mentally. Sidestep deserved it, especially after crying about wanting to be their own person and their privacy. Them getting a cut or losing an eye sounds generous.

Her baseline response is the deep cut/scar, and that’s skipped if you’re flirting. She only takes out your eye if she’s extra mad. This’ll happen if refused to admit you went into her mind, if you tricked her into killing someone, or if your villain relationship was “coward” (which comes from threatening hostages, not just running away) or “nemesis” (and you had low friendship).
The other Rangers also think it was excessive and completely unnecessary; even if they’re furious with you they’re not happy with treating a prisoner that way. It’s possible some of her anger comes from the secret nanovores she’s keeping in check. She really doesn’t want to lose control of those.

You took over her mind bro, Argent doesn’t care you’re unarmed or a prisoner.
And those mental scars and how Sidestep freaked out the nanites over her body aren’t going away anytime soon.
I think the anger comes from having, again, her mind and body forcefully taken out of her control. Of course the other Rangers feel that way it didn’t happen to them, they got hurt yes, but having their whole mind and body ripped out their control and attacking their team didn’t happen to them.

Undeniably, Argent’s response to the villain reveal is the most severe.
Sidestep broke Ortega’s arm and sent him through the windshield.
Sidestep crippled Herald.
Sidestep also fought Steel and could kill Blaze. The puppet also shot Steel in his stomach.
Yet, none of Ortega, Steel, Herald didn’t physically harm Sidestep except asking countless questions.
Even Steel kept quiet about the regene status.
Actually, I don’t mind getting ripped by Argent. It’s actually expected of Argent who is physical rather than trade arguments.
But compared to her comrades, Argent stood out during the interrogation.

There’s also the fact Ortega, Steel and Herald all have some connection or obsession with you. If you’re not romancing or befriending Argent, you’re pretty much a nobody to her. So she has no reason to care about what the others think about what she did to you or what happens to you. Obviously it’s different if you’re friends or romancing her.

Fair enough. If anything, it makes Ortega and Steel really lenient and understanding towards Sidestep regardless of relationship status.
It’s hard to increase her stats without flirting with her. Flirting is the easiest way it seems.

As long as the villain you enjoy fighting her and keep it platonic, once you reveal yourself you’re pretty much good if you don’t wanna romance.

Almost certainly, supposedly it sets you back to “factory default”. As if you had never been hurt or marked in any way.
