Fallen Hero: Retribution release thread! (Book Two) (Spoilers Inside!)

I have eight Steps (the last one I haven’t played her “official” playthrough, just some quick test playthroughs to get idea on relationships, scar and motivations etc) so i didnt want to vote because dont like to choose between them.

But here is a quick list of my sidesteps nemesis because I like lists and dropping info about my Sidesteps :sparkles::

Summary

[Anarchist + Outsider + Fate] Sidestep:* Past Self nemesis.
*originally in Rebirth put gun to the mouth and got the scar that came with it, but turned it into Outsider in retribution.

[Hero Hunter + Revenge + Anger] Sidestep: Past Self nemesis.

[Thief + Hunger + Good Life] Sidestep: Lady Argent as nemesis.

[Mob Boss + Friendless + Revenge] Sidestep: Ortega as nemesis.

[Anarchist + Outsider + Justice] Sidestep: Past Self nemesis
(honestly still not a perfect fit for nemesis, but none of the nemesis seemed 100%, might change it to Present Self but bit “meh” about it

[Mob Boss + Puppetmaster + Good Life] Sidestep: Herald as nemesis.

[Hero Trainer + Revenge + Justice] Sidestep: Chen as nemesis currently, but I could see it maybe changing in book 3 if can change nemesis again.

[Anarchist + Revenge + Revenge] Sidestep: Lady Argent as nemesis.

While I dont personally much like Herald (i find him very irritating) for most of my Steps the main reason I don’t think Herald would end up as nemesis because he’s not as “noticeable” as the other Rangers (despite finding him irritating), and the Sidesteps he would fit as a nemesis Lady Argent takes the spot because those Sidesteps are more irked by seen as nobody by her.

Ortega as rival is something. Remember when in B1 you can have Step visit in the hospital and as Ortega lies there unconscious all fucked up they start rumeniscing about what’s so wrong about them (Sidestep) that they could hate someone enough to want to hurt them so bad just to later want to come around and kiss all their pain away.

Answer, probably the sadistic player ruining your life, but haven’t looked up since if not to swap to present self rival in B2.

You all are weak ass bitches who don’t deserve the title of villains.

Ah yes, I did a playthrough like that. Although I made Steel the rival for letting the team go to shit in the first place, and meanwhile My step was both planting doubt in everyone and raising their reputation and skill to deal with what’s coming. I made Herald save the museum, ranted to Ortega about justice, saved the civilians at Carter, told Barold about Heartbreak, trained him, and made a tag team with Argent against the catastrofiend. All in all, I’d say the rangers are doing very well now.

I believe Ortega and Steel are the easiest to hate, or at least to consider rivals, simply for the fact that they’re the most dangerous rangers. I mean, Ortega breaks the legs of one of our bodies at the end with her unpredictable recklessness, and Steel is one of the biggest factors in the 5 years of constant torture we suffered.

While I can understand feeling that way about Herald, and the scene where you use your tactics knowledge to beat the living crap out of him and leave him shivering in fear is beautiful, he’s too weak to be worthy of being Step’s rival in my opinion, not to mention most of the time I go for telepathy upgrade because of the +20% you get against Herald for free, and optional+20% before by exposing your telepathy.

Oh yeah, I do believe the arrogant fighter Sidesteps fit very well with Argent, being seen as nobody, someone who doesn’t matter and can be thrown out like garbage. It makes it all so more beautiful when you’re smashing her perfect face into the concrete.

I love the sweet angst of having Ortega as a rival with a Sidestep that had a thing in the past and are still in love. Sidestep being 100% sure Ortega abandoned them to their faith, because they had an agreement to always be there for each other, while Ortega was mourning every single day for the past 7 years the loss of their best friend and the love of their life :sob::sob::sob:

I know what it is but it sounds like pet names to me. She knows English, she doesn’t have to use French terms.

I used to choose him as a rival because according to my MC he was everything they could never be and the Rangers replaced Sidrstep with him - the picture of the perfect hero.
But now it’s always Ortega. Makes more sense.

it is a preference, even in the game, and say so. I personally find it endearing, and make Dr.Mortum stand out more.

Anyone can say ‘My Love’ but her saying ‘Ma chérie’ instead is so…more personal like. Make Dr.Mortum that much more unique, and mysterious (especially since we don’t know shit about them lol).

And that’s what annoys me about them.

That they are unique?

No. This pose of being mysterious and romantic. Besides, I don’t like it when someone uses cheesy phrases like “darling” or “my dear” unless I agree to it. Ortega sometimes uses pet name for MC, but that’s because I decided to do and it’s okay.

Hm… I see.

So, we need Lord Ember to go all cheesy and stuff to get you on board? :joy:

Could be Hollow Ground as well xd

Both of them need to be cheesy?

Wonder how would that go? and who would snap first?

HG: Now mon chérie I believe we had an understanding, didn’t we?
Lord Ember: Maybe, it has been so long ma chérie since we last spoke after all.
HG: It seems I need to remind you mon chérie about our agreement: Don’t walk on my flowers and I won’t have to come after you.
Lord Ember: Yes, that does sound like something you would say…ma chérie
HG: Yet here you are, trampling all over my fucking flower bed! Explain yourself mon chérie!
Lord Ember: I needed to get your attention somehow…
HG: Congratulation, you have it. Now fuck off!

…and then Hollow Ground…

Sidestep writing shitty sketches like mines and posting them on the net for all to see would be hilarious

Cheesy but without awful French terms :sob: Mortum really turned me off to this language. I can’t believe I ever wanted to learn it.

I don’t think LE and HG would be so polite to each other xD they are enemies and see each other as their main competition.

Yeah but since I’m off the grid they can’t do shit, now can they?

A lot of selves in the results, huh
I like to choose ROs as rivals or go from self to RO in book 2
I mean Argent has to fight you naked if she’s your rival, it’s a great start for a romance!

When I did the ITFO polls, I generally held off on calling the results until 100+ people voted or 2 days passed since the poll went up.

I’m surprised how much more popular present-self or past-self rival is compared to the Rangers as rivals. What I love about rival system is that it can add an additional layer to your relationship with one of the Rangers. Of course, having yourself as a rival is just as interesting and fun, but I love things that make relationships with other major characters more special and nuanced.

Since I have multiple MCs, I will eventually have playthroughs for every rival, but I chose Argent in the poll, because she was my rival in my very first playthrough, which was a blind playthrough and in a way that makes it more authentic than subsequent runs. I thought chosing Argent as a rival made the most sense, because my Sidestep can’t stand people looking down on him, and also because Argent is very capable, which makes her a good opponent.

I really enjoyed having Argent as a rival, their relationship with my Sidestep was very interesting. They are sort of like “frenemies”: they dislike each other, but also respect and genuinely enjoy fighting each other. It’s not like they hate each other, more like they’re trying to prove who is cooler. :joy: Very fun competitive relationship.

I just like playing up the self hatred angle with my main Step. Probably due to real life reasons like Red (Got it) said

I pick self-loathing over everything else because it’s something that no matter how much you want…you just can’t get rid of. Self-loathing is a real thing and it can easily become a second skin.

And this game poke at so many nerves in my system…it’s unreal. Although, Sensei Malin being surprised at the reception is a bigger unreal lol

Besides, it depends on the individual. See, I for example don’t care if peoples look down on me (Argent), or act or try to make me feel like I don’t belong (Steel), or Throw at me that sickening idealism that make you gag and throw up a little bit in your mouth (Harold), or let you down (Ortega). You get used to those over time, people will be people. It is many disappointments and hurt that create butthurt but…you get used to it. (You don’t get thicker skin, you just agree and embrace it lol).

Also, @Nm6k Just call me Red (or Sam), save you from writing my username in full lol
