Hi everyone, I’m here mainly because there was something that made me curious while I was doing a little bit of code reading to min-max my step for maximum ranger doubt (if I calculated right they’re all on like 30 doubt) with minimum suspicion, and basically is the part of “gates”?
There are achievements related to them, and I was mostly curious on what’s the process of unlocking them, since I don’t really understand the code very well but it seems like opening gates involves a lot of getting your ass kicked and weird things.
There’s this guide that explains how to open the gates. And this one explain the requirements to unlock all the achievements
Also, if you look at the beginning of the thread (in post #3 more specifically) there’s some other useful guides too - like what choices increase the rangers doubt, the scar level and other things
I love this game and decided to do a cannonball run where the MC names their villain self Sidestep and flirts with basically the entire cast (except Mortum, because Mortum requires being in the Puppet for a relationship) and I feel so incredibly dirty . I find the idea incredibly amusing that their polyamorous flirtations will cause issues for them in uncountable degrees.
Will they call you out for essentially flirting with everyone? I know Steel will state not to toy with Herald’s feelings…
Also is the only way for you to learn Herald’s name by pestering him and jokingly calling him Harry? It would be nice to have the opportunity to learn his name without like… pulling it out of him via playful mocking.
If you choose to see him when going to the HQ and accept to have dinner with him he tells you too. Or when he visits you in the hospital after the car crash (villain reveal or not) / if Step was not involved in the accident and he was the one that called you
I remember that you can possess a guard to take care of the dampener in one of the options when you’re about to attack the casino, but they become mentally exhausted due to the strain of possessing someone within the dampener’s range, and this was done with the help of the Rat King.
Yeah dampers are the Mc worst nightmare. Even wearing the puppet the Mc is still affected a bit in the first book. Honestly taking the damper out like this is somewhat secretive it’s not worth the pain. I always plant the bomb or find another way in for the heist

Been messing around with a playthrough and managed to get this which i’m sure has been mentioned before but I haven’t seen it yet.
My Sidestep romanced Argent and told her about being a re-gene, woke up in hosptial.
The whole team knows about me being the villain and they all know about me being a re-gene except Herald.
Ortega found out about everything.
Argent told me her origin.
Steel told me about the photos
Couldn’t connect with my puppet, puppet did not get sentience in this playthrough which I also haven’t seen yet and nobody broke me out of hospital even though Argent thought about it.
Any idea on why Argent didn’t break me out? I was at 95% with her and it seemed to be going well.
And why did nothing happen with my puppet at the end? In my other ones she gained sentience or something happened to Sidestep’s body.
Nope at least to the romance part which Malin has said before was not part of the plan while working on Rebirth they made the choice to make them ro’s for the series after the book came out
Big major npc parts yes, but not romances! I had underestimated the craving for love and decided to go for it. If I had, I would have already started that in book one (arguably Argent already did).
Same with the new ones I am adding. They were already there, I just needed to see if I could have fun writing smoochy content. Sidestep is such a raccoon after all…
