Why do I find this so hilarious
? Why is Lenore even going to poke Richs eye out to begin with? What the hell did I miss in the comments that brought this up
? And most importantly, why do I love this twisted story so much
?
This is a good moment to be happy for my 80%+ relationship with Paul. Thanks for covering my back, bro
To be very specific, the MC does not poke his eye out, but she does put his eye out in an effort to escape. I don’t want to go into too many more details just yet, though, considering the snail’s pace at which chapter 8 is coming along and that this is chapter 9 material. Might be another month or two before we get there ![]()
And the comment that led to this discussion is @Meira_Litch’s question regarding the “Free Empathy Lesson” achievement.
Reading the excerpt about the consequences of hugging Richard, I kind of began to wonder … If you were to use personality traits from your WIP to describe Richard and Paul before they turned, what would their stats be like? And what about Lenore from your book?
There’s no pressure at all Elena! I think you are going at a really good pace, and I love that we get to play the chapters as you write them. When the game is complete and you release it, I’m so gonna buy it!
And I already got 2 friends to play your game and they love it!
Oh wow, this is such a fun question! ![]()
How’s how I’d rate Paul and Richard, but of course everyone’s encouraged to draw their own conclusions (I’m of the philosophy that characters take on lives of their own in the minds of each reader).
Rich Prior to being turned:
Intelligence: 65
Creativity: 80
Honesty: 75
Humanity: 40 (after being turned: 10)
Compliance: 20
Here’s why:
Richard, although very bright, leans more toward creativity when it comes to solving problems. This probably came in handy when operating an illegal business back in the 1920’s. After he was turned, he still gravitates toward creative solutions (such as affixing an IV to a live-in donor, using the building’s furnace as a disposal mechanism, etc). I see him as someone who’s always been “empathy compromised,” but he is exceptionally honest and will let you know exactly where you stand (hence the low compliance stat).
Paul Prior to being turned:
Intelligence: 80
Creativity: 65
Honesty: 35
Humanity: 80 (after being turned: 30)
Compliance: 60
Here’s why:
Paul, although very creative, leans more toward outsmarting/manipulating others when it comes to achieving his goals. Before he was turned, Paul’s ability to read people probably came in handy when working as Richard’s bartender, And I imagine his talents were of such use when it came to negotiating with clients, smoothing things over with the authorities, etc, that Richard eventually made Paul his full business partner. Even though Paul’s honesty is low, his natural charisma comes from a genuine love of people and a desire for companionship (he really wants you to like him, even if he’s planning to kill you).
Lenore (from the novel):
Intelligence: 70
Creativity: 70
Honesty: 50
Humanity: 50
Compliance: 40
Here’s why:
In the book, Lenore’s supposed to be evenly matched with her captors when it comes to Intelligence/Creativity, giving her distinct advantages/disadvantages when it comes to dealing with each vampire. How do these stats discrepancies translate in the story itself? Lenore is more likely to be surprised than outsmarted by Richard (For example, Richard manages to shock both Paul and Lenore when he opts to feed at the clubs as a “creative” way to antagonize Charles). And although Lenore is certainly smart enough to hold her own with Paul, he routinely gets the upper hand (especially in book 2).
As a matter of survival, Lenore has to remain fairly nimble when it comes to her other stats - this means lying when appropriate, accepting the necessary human sacrifice from time to time, and of course only mouthing off when she thinks she can get away with it (and to amuse Paul, whom she desperately needs as an ally).
OMG that was waaay longer than I thought it would be. ![]()
Aww, I really needed that!
The alternate branch at the end of chapter 6 has introduced a lot more complexity than I’d bargained for, but I’m getting there…
I’m sososo humbled/flattered/floored that you recommended the game to friends. Can’t imagine a higher compliment. THANK YOU! ![]()

I found this post… and just yeah… (covered because some people might be grossed out) but a pretty good theory though.
@Phoenix_Wolf LOL. We can’t let this get out! It’ll be the end of all vampire fiction
I swear something like that happens in the Anne Rice novel “Memnoch the Devil .”
I have been wanting to dome some fanart for this wip for a while now. So, here it is, my Leonore after months of imprisonment, considering if she should overdose on Xanax and die, or try to quit completely. If she is not going to overdose, she wants to die clean.
It just dawned on me, how would Rich and Paul react to reading this, @Elena_H?
I think call bullshit. The part where the menstrual fluid is the cleanest of the body is so fake that I don’t even know where to start
To start with, menstrual fluid is about 50% blood. The rest is cervical mucus, vaginal secretions and endometrial tissue. So… Yeah, that
Basically every “fact” people post on Tumblr:

Ps. Beautiful fanart
This is so very true haha.
And thank you so much, I’m glad you like it!
Shut up! You’re an artist?!
I can’t even believe how good this is.
@Meira_Litch, you completely nailed my mental image of the MC, right down to her wiry frame and unkempt hair! I like this so much that I’m printing it out and framing it!!!
Thank you ![]()

Oh wow. I wasn’t expecting that! I’m glad you like it! I always imagine her with veeeeery frizzy hair and in poor health. And I love long, voluminous hair.
Show me how it looks once you frame it!
Love this question ![]()
So, to @Meira_Litch’s point:
I guarantee Richard and Paul would have the same reaction (especially since menstrual blood is NOT an approved vampire food in the Donor universe), and I imagine the resulting conversation would go swiftly downhill from there. Endgame: A series of lewd running jokes that would make their female victims (even more?) uncomfortable to say the least.
And now that I’ve had the pleasure of thinking through enough examples to make me laugh out loud, I’m sad to say that not even one of them is appropriate for this forum.
Like, I can’t be the only person who thinks this is funny:
Sorta explains why this book never transitioned to film… ![]()
I will!!! My daughter (who thinks you’re the greatest artist of all time, btw) is coming with me to get the frame tomorrow. I’ll definitely send you a pic!
Well now I’m even more curious!
I know, I just think it would be funny seeing their reaction when one day, while browsing the Internet, they come across that post. And let’s face it, it would most likely be Paul who’d come across the post because I can totally see him browsing the Internet, pretending to work (while Rich is working), and then he’d most likely show it to Rich… probably after he finally recovered from laughing his ass off!
Or, one of Richs earlier female donors would probably have tried to show it to him… and well, as @Elena_H said:
