🌈 Dear Diary, We Created a Plot Hole! (A Slice-of-Life Fantasy Adventure set in the Philippines) ~ [UPDATED Aug 31 | 608,000 words]

I’m still doing my compilation of stuff I found, but I did a quick run to find the missing pictures, and I can’t find them anymore. Maybe it was a network issue?

@ElliWoelfin Oh yeah, there’s slightly different flavor text if you have enough Knowledge, or if you wear glasses. Also Twin has slightly different dialogue depending on their locket.

Roselyna’s Emotional Level ranges from 50%-150%, so no errors there. Actually it’s just 0-100, I just add a temporary +50% to the display, hehe :stuck_out_tongue:

@LiliArch Oh, I fixed the missing images the other day, actually! I just forgot the fact that you can gain both opposing stats at the same time. Please do let me know if you find any more missing images.

@ChillyFoxie Hehe. Now that you mentioned it, I guess I could fit in another reference to one of the preset names for the Mystery/Supernatural town names.

Anyway, sorry my replies are taking a while. I’m having some computer issues for the moment, so the bug fixes might have to wait for a bit.

In the meantime… what is everyone’s favorite scene/choice in the new update? And did you like the new bestfriend scenes?

:memo: v2.1.5.32 Bug Fix

  • Added one new preset name for the Supernatural setting.
  • Added options and custom inputs for what you call Aunt Julie and Uncle Robert if you picked the highest starting relationship with them.
  • Roselyna now grabs an umbrella during a certain scene in Chapter 5.
  • Certain choices in Chapter 3 can no longer be picked if MC has no crushes other than B.
  • Fixed short fantasy races still being able to select the :straight_ruler: [Tall] Passive.
  • Fixed MCs with :crown: [Draconic Heritage] not being able to select the :straight_ruler: [Tall] Passive.
  • Fixed ā€œWaynieā€ and ā€œMikeyā€ bestfriend nickname errors.
  • Fixed typo when choosing one of the preset twin language names.
  • Fixed missing instrument flavor text if you picked keyboards as your favorite instrument.
  • Fixed repeating flavor text if you wear matching outfits with your twin.
  • Fixed crush-related flavor text that don’t make sense if MC has a crush on B.
  • Fixed missing stat notification images.
  • Fixed broken link in the survey.
  • ā€œActive Debuffsā€ Section no longer appears if you currently have no negative status effects.
  • Stats Screen will no longer show :blue_book: [Average Student] before you pick the passive.
  • Various minor edits, stat adjustments, and fixes.
  • Roselyna is now approximately 2% more huggable!

Edited to add:

  • The stat requirements for the :1st_place_medal: [Top 5 Student] and :2nd_place_medal: [Top 10 Student] Traits now account for the Knowledge stat, and should be overall easier to achieve if your Knowledge is higher than 10%.

Unless anyone else finds more bugs, this might be the last update for a while.

Happy Holidays from me and F6E! I hope everyone’s doing well despite everything that’s happening. I’m still recovering from the update so I don’t have anything special planned, but here’s a small update anyway!

:pencil: v2.1.5.33 Update

  • The Bonus EXP Event has been extended.
  • The Fantasy genre has been renamed to ā€œHigh Fantasyā€ to be more accurate.
  • You can now choose what to call Julie and Robert, even if you don’t have a high starting relationship.
  • Updated Roselyna’s artwork in uniform to have redder hair and better shading.
  • Fixed MC getting a 5% Knowledge Bonus before you pick your class standings.
  • Fixed Twin’s genre-based character class suggestions showing up even if it’s not their favorite genre.
  • Fixed fantasy heritage passive showing incorrect label when trait details are hidden.
  • Minor edits.
  • Roselyna is now approximately 20.24% more huggable!

Now if I may be selfish for a moment, my last wish for this year is for the thread to be a little more active.

If you enjoyed reading the latest update, consider making a post as your gift for me. Let me know about your favorite scenes or choices, or anything you wanna point out or talk about. It’s show, don’t tell, remember?

[spoiler]Just replayed for the first time in a while. Absolutely loved the scene with the locket/bus/Rosalyne. You did a great job capturing that sort of child-like ā€œmaybe magic is realā€ wonder with the way you went about it.

I’m not huge on slice-of-life stories, but you sprinkle just enough magic throughout to keep the story fresh and interesting for me![/spoiler]

Hello everyone! So I’ve received several suggestions to include additional heritage options for MC, especially for the supernatural genre. I was planning on expanding your genre/heritage choice in later volumes as MC discovers more about their story world, but I figured it might be a better idea to establish that earlier in the prologue instead.

And then I thought, what if the fantasy heritage options were a universal choice instead of being limited to fantasy? (like the main character in IAC)

So, all genres will now allow you to select MC’s Heritage:

  • Human Heritage
  • Elven Heritage
  • Orcish Heritage
  • Dwarven Heritage
  • Halfling Heritage
  • Gnomish Heritage
  • Goblin Heritage
  • Draconic Heritage
  • Fae Heritage

In addition, some genres will allow you to select a more specific origin on top of MC’s heritage:

Sci-Fi:

  • Extra-Galactic Adaptability: Will now allow MC to be a more proper alien by letting you select which attribute to specialize in (Vigor/Grace/Knowledge/Charm). The choice that increases Vigor will now mention MC having tougher skin, for example.

Mythology:

  • Divine Ancestry
  • Nephilim Ancestry
  • Cambion Ancestry

Supernatural:

  • Werewolf Ancestry
  • Vampiric Ancestry
  • Nephilim Ancestry
  • Cambion Ancestry
  • Enchanter Ancestry

Additional Notes:

  • The Fae Heritage will be the catch-all for most other fantasy beings, so you can headcanon whatever creature is your MC’s heritage.
  • The Divine Ancestry option for Mythology is the same as the current one. But now MC can have nephilim/cambion ancestry instead of being a demigod.
  • I think I’ll stick with werewolves as the only shifter option, as they’re the most popular. If I ever decide to add more options, they’ll have to be canines, but don’t quote me on that.
  • I went with ā€œenchanterā€ rather than witch/wizard/sorcerer/etc. as I think it’s the most fitting and neutral name for the option.
  • The Divine Ancestry and Enchanter Ancestry will also be the only available option for MCs with Fae or Draconic Heritage if you choose Mythology or Supernatural. Otherwise, we’ll end up with fairy werewolves. While that sounds cool, it’s a little too much for me, even with the plot hole excuse.
  • Genre passives will now also grant you Bonus EXP when you are in a story world/setting of the same genre. Since the Adventure genre has a lot of overlap, the bonus EXP will be active whenever you have the [Adrenaline Rush] Status Effect instead.

I’ll have to rewrite the prologue a bit, but this will make the (previously) fantasy-exclusive flavor text and special interactions become more worthwhile to write. There won’t be any exclusive heritage scenes until you arrive in MC’s story world, so the additional workload should be minimal. Plus, you can now have elf detectives, orc superheroes, halfling werewolves, or dwarves in space! Fantasy has always been the most popular genre, so this should also help in balancing things out a bit.

Nothing’s concrete for now, but I’ll definitely have to adjust the bonus stats and effects. Please let me know your thoughts! :slightly_smiling_face:

@Petrichor I think you have to put the spoiler tags in each paragraph for them to work.

Anyway, thank you! That’s always nice to hear from people who don’t like slice of life very much. The bus scene is also one of my favorites. You’ll be surprised later when you find out who the driver is, hehe.

Excited for the update! Am already planning my new go around with the new races. That being said, I’d love to ask, will that affect the people who live in the settings of your genre world? Like would your Mystery World be full of Orcs or would the Superhero setting be full of Dragons? Etc

Also, a suggestion. Since this will probably make people less interested in Fantasy, may I suggest adding to the scenes we have of the Fantasy setting? Kinda like how I noticed an Amogus reference in the Scifi scene when you say the space station is filled with booby traps, or the small flavor text of the Superhero spacestation place having fireworks as abnormal. I love those

Hehe. There are a lot of fun MC/Genre combinations

Well, most likely not everyone. It’ll change some characters for sure, but if you pick a fantasy race, it only makes sense that the other races will also be present. But that’s so far from the future that I can’t give you a definite answer.

As for your suggestion, it’s very likely that I’ll have to edit the prologue sequence much later in development, so I’ll hold off on editing the prologue outside of the new changes. If there’s something I want to reference, I usually just add a new preset name since that’s very easy to include.

Ah, man. I was halfway the game in my bug-hunting run, do the saves from previous version still work?

They should! I’m only talking about the upcoming Heritage Passive changes.

Wait, it is a bus. Totally had forgotten the future significance of that, didn’t make the connection at all. Well now I’m looking forward to seeing about that

I’m sorry, I meant the saves made prior the 25 dec update with the said update  (but I tried that now and they apparently got reset to the chapter beginnings, do I’m better off just checking my screenshots and restarting. I was in chapter two anyway, apparently, so it’s not a big loss).

@ElliWoelfin Yup, that’s why Lily mentioned the license plate. If you find a random interesting detail, chances are that there’s a secret, reference, or a payoff behind it. I doubt many people would even notice that Paddy was lying about Raven near the end of Chapter 5 if there wasn’t a ā€œSecret Discovered!ā€ popup.

There’s so many things like that scattered throughout the story (like the hidden links). The secrets are why Chapter 5 took agonizingly long to finish, and that’s one of the reasons I’m disappointed that there’s barely any discussion regarding the secrets.

I don’t know if people will even find the IAC character references in Chapter 5 if I don’t blabber about it. It’s not just a simple easter egg—there’s big plot and character implications, and I’m so excited for people to find it and make the connection. There’s a reason I keep mentioning the secrets guide.

If no one finds it, then it’s probably best that I skip the investigation branch. I have actual puzzles planned for that.

@LiliArch Oh, I hope it wasn’t a big inconvenience then. I edit the earlier chapters a lot so I’m a little surprised the saves aren’t totally broken yet.

As I mentioned at the post above, I am now planning to make the fantasy heritage options not limited to the fantasy genre!

I have a bunch of polls lined up, so let’s start with that and see how the results compare to the IAC survey. You can pick as many as you want if you are planning to do multiple playthroughs!

Which MC Heritage options are you interested in?
  • Human
  • Elven
  • Orcish
  • Dwarven
  • Halfling
  • Gnomish
  • Goblin
  • Draconic
  • Fae
0 voters
Which Mythology options are you interested in?
  • Divine Ancestry (Demigod)
  • Nephilim Ancestry (Half-angel)
  • Cambion Ancestry (Half-demon)
0 voters
Which Supernatural options are you interested in?
  • Werewolf Ancestry
  • Vampiric Ancestry
  • Nephilim Ancestry
  • Cambion Ancestry
  • Enchanter Ancestry
0 voters

Speaking of, now that the heritage options are universal, I guess I’ll have to add new flavor text about the group’s reactions to your chosen heritage. That should be fun to write, hehe.

Hi, just wanted to say that this is an amazing game. I did notice a bug though (sorry if it’s already been reported): I chose to have a crush on Brandon (and only Brandon), and when getting ready for the sleepover, the text says things like:

I—was I that obvious when I was looking at ERROR earlier?

which I assume is supposed to be referring to him (possibly the game assumes a crush on one of the actual friends at this point)?

Good luck with the game!

I mean, they loaded. I didn’t try to play them. In any event, it was way less a bother than accidentally overwriting a wrong save, which I also did. (And they were something like a week prior to the update in question, so not very old.)

Anyway! I come bearing gifts! These are in the order where I noticed/screenshotted them and not necessarily in order where they *are*, since I was running multiple characters, but. Also, that's a bunch, so, sorry if there's doubles. I lost track.

Loving that Freytag’s mountain troll.

Plot pretzel! Gimme!

I didn’t want a sister, I wanted a sibling!

Other seems odd here, when neither MC nor twin has blond hair.

I… wasn’t a bad singer? Just a shy one.

Ate Raven has X-ray-vision? My locket was under my shirt.

I so wanted to name the twin’s plushie ā€œBonnieā€ after seeing this.

I went to shower first, but the twin still came to tell me it’s my turn after they finished.

Should this be ā€œhisā€?

Is this a typo?

I finished packing before I went to talk to Paddy, then got hit with this, which then forced me to pack and select the gift again.

Something wonky here

Well, obviously nice that I have my back, but.

Twin just came from shower, is wearing only towel, and… suddenly finishes packing in front of TV, where I was sitting the whole time? When did they start packing? And more importantly, when did they bring all the stuff there?

The twin said they’d be playing with the pet, not that they went to Paddy’s room! Then again, that’s where Schrƶdinger is. But then again again, if I go to Paddy’s room, the pet is there but the twin is not. Did they find the portal I’ve been looking for?

Dear twin, you left your room with your plushie! If you wanted to leave Blinky at home, you could have just left him on your bed.

I already asked about the school-switching, so it being true shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Shouldn’t this be her and not him?

I don’t know what glitch this is, but there’s a weird dot on the left where the locket image is.

Missing italics? (ha)

The letters change! Now I’m wondering if it’s random or based on choices and I’m super curious to see what happens next.

Hello everyone! Happy New Year to you and your twinsie!

Just a quick update: My computer needs to be repaired and I can’t get it fixed for another couple of days, so sorry for the late replies.

Since I can’t work on the new heritage traits, I’ve been taking this time to play the game from the start. Believe it or not, I haven’t actually done a proper playthrough of DDWCaPH! since I finished Chapter 2, and it shows.

I’ll have to do a quick editing pass on all the chapters, because there’s still a surprising amount of typos. Besides the stat notifs layout not looking great on mobile (I can do very little about that unfortunately), I did notice quite a few awkward wording and dialogue, especially in the earlier chapters (which I guess makes sense since I have a better grasp of my writing style now), as well as lines missing some context (me assuming I already mentioned something I haven’t because it’s obvious to me).

The Chapter 1 twin fight in particular seems to happen out of the blue, so I’ll have to extend that scene so there’s more build up to it.

Anyway, I’ll post more details about the new heritage traits here as soon as I can!

@ParrotWatcher Hello, thank you for the kind words!

And thank you for the report! Yes, I forgot to check all the crush-related flavor text when I added the choice to have a crush on B. Whoops.

@LiliArch Holy crap, that’s a lot! You’re making my beta testers look bad :stuck_out_tongue: (jk, jk)

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this all together, I really appreciate it! I’m not sure if I should be laughing or not that you’re making fun of my typos. I’m actually finding even more typos now that I’m doing my own playthrough (to be fair, the code makes it hard to see capital/punctuation errors). I’ll try to fix everything once I’m able to!

…I was kinda amused by that fourth-wall-breaky MC looking at ERROR.

You should. I mean, that was the intention - I thought they were funny. Apologies if I accidentally insulted you.

I actually found some more, but if you’re doing a pass already, it can wait.

Also, I played In Auctorem Credimus (gunslinging werewolf superhero secret agents forever!), and noted a couple of things

This doesn't flow/follow properly

This looks a bit clunky too

Not sure how the third option relates to what was said

And not sure how this follows from the second option

This looks like a coding error

You get this when you are married

And this when you are not

Hii somewhat of a longtime lurker, but just wanted to leave a comment for this WIP! I’ve been playing the game since before the rewrite, and it’s so interesting to see all the changes and new additions to the story and characters throughout time. I like more slice of life and silly stories like this one, and there doesn’t tend to be a lot of them on this forum, so I’m always excited for your updates!

I really like seeing all the stats, graphics, and art in the game, and how creative some of the the things are written/done (like your age being considered ā€œlevel 12ā€). Plus, I just enjoy how much variety of choices there are? Like the twin language option, all the types of genre’s which branch the story a ton, lots of customization in general, and etc. I can feel that there’s a lot of love and effort put into this project with it being 500k words, plus the side game (not even including the word count of the older version of the game too!). It’s a really fun play, but also really sweet too? I played as a kind of standoffish character who often fought with their twin, but the two of them are trying to get along better now, and it’s nice to read. The flavor text where the sibling thought my MC forgot the language they made together was so sad to read, but also made it better when they started talking to each other more.

Basically, I just wanted to say that I really love your game (one of my top WIP’s, and I’m kind of picky lol), and that I really like the uniqueness of your writing style! Anyway, hopefully your computer can be repaired soon! Wishing you well ^^

I was pondering: what happens, if a character decides they don’t like how they’ve been written and starts to act out of character?

(Also, is that telenovela on TV that’s on our fav genre taking place in the storyworld we originate from?)
