Ah, thank you for bringing this up. This is because this choice does have positive or negative ramifications to the MC, just not immediate ones. The domino effect of some of those show up towards the end of the story while others will continue into future stories.
Think of it like “Oh what luck that janitor left that broom there that I could use to defend myself with!” The choice would be from the janitor’s perspective, but the choice later impacts the MC’s story.
While yes, some karma choices are forced, quite a few are not, such as the job loss option. You are not forced to spend Karma to keep or lose the job in the CEO route. The same remains true with Kelly and several others. However, if I don’t give choices that force you to choose one karma or the other, then people can “game” the system by never selecting the options with negative consequences.
It is Karma and the point is to balance things out, there should be occasional times that the system basically forces things to adjust. I will look into further limiting how often this happens.
I’m not sure when any villain POV causes them to be “heroes” instead when Karma is at play.
