Dawn of Heroes (WIP) (Updated 03/16/25)

Ah, thank you for bringing this up. This is because this choice does have positive or negative ramifications to the MC, just not immediate ones. The domino effect of some of those show up towards the end of the story while others will continue into future stories.

Think of it like “Oh what luck that janitor left that broom there that I could use to defend myself with!” The choice would be from the janitor’s perspective, but the choice later impacts the MC’s story.

While yes, some karma choices are forced, quite a few are not, such as the job loss option. You are not forced to spend Karma to keep or lose the job in the CEO route. The same remains true with Kelly and several others. However, if I don’t give choices that force you to choose one karma or the other, then people can “game” the system by never selecting the options with negative consequences.

It is Karma and the point is to balance things out, there should be occasional times that the system basically forces things to adjust. I will look into further limiting how often this happens.

I’m not sure when any villain POV causes them to be “heroes” instead when Karma is at play.

Thank you for all of this feedback I do appreciate it and will see if I can better balance the Karma system within the game.

Maybe if you have positive karma and can’t select the worse option can be seen that way?

I like how the karma system can be used for skill checks, otherwise I’d probably turn it off too (so that I’m not limited in how many poor choices I can make in a row).

Yep. I turned Karma off. Enjoying it better now.
When Sean, that was his name, succeeds on the mans life, as was a choice, that didnt bother me. I chose for him to save him. Technically it probably would hurt the criminal business more.

I agree with LiliArch, hiding it when Karma is on might be better, not knowing then.

I prefer the saving was due to my abilities were good enough, or failure cause it wasn’t.

I was concerned, worried, wanted to help Kelly, thus better save. Versus other idea of not caring, not worried or even rude to Kelly that commits a failure. Not cause ‘Sean’ kept me from that chance. ‘Sean’ being a karma factor that ruins the chance, regardless of skill/emotions.

Kelly above as an example off top of my memory. I recall her because that was the most heartfelt heroic action I recall. It glued to me.

I don’t think that’s what @LiliArch was saying, but I guess that is an option I could add.

For now, what I’ll do is cut back on the forced balancing karma choices like the job one and the two in other POVs. There will still be a karma choice there, but it won’t force you to choose between two different karma choices. I’ll save that more for bigger impacting events, any in the climax. I’ll apply this to the next update.

Then we can see if that makes the experience better.

It was not. I thought you can hide the karma notifications already?

(Also, unrelated, I caught some weird errors in the late chapters, but they’re not gamebreaking and if you’re doing revisions already, I don’t want to bother you with them right now.)

You can, but I meant to have it as an early option instead of having to go through the menus while keeping a notification of skill checks on.

Please report them. If it doesn’t break the game, I can easily miss them. These revisions are not done in the game engine, but in word documents, so I’m not seeing the final results.

Yeppers, thought i made a mistake by Chapter 9. May have to jump all the way back to 3rd. Forgot whom was romancable for me, no Aegis. So far, I think the Kelly situation in CEO route isn’t there? No choice to be concerned. Even though I know few personally that would care about a kid. Maybe cause they Catholic?! Not sure. They definitely humanized and caring.

Once I get to a spot, I’ll know and start over, ignoring CEO route. Sorry but I know Kelly’s moment was truelly heroic versus anything I can recall.

Mistakes are made in CEO route. Saying I’m in power armor when I’m not. During docks scene.

I found why its silly not to do both. Get evidence or save kids. Only one kid is saved regardless of chose kids vs evidence. Chose to save kids isn’t really any difference. Hang up the cloak is a thing but this only needs, do both, same circumstances as saving children instead. I would add more than one for saving children choice, otherwise its pointless to do.

Save children = saves at lesst a half dozen of dozen or something

Save evidence = 0 kids

Save both = not really need to change except add more than one due to speedsters. Which might save 3 instead of one out of 12 or more.

Doesn’t feel worthwhile and as worthless, as a speedster anyway. Still depressing more than 0 died and not fast enough thoughts. 1 childs death is disheartening enough. Especially if emote the scene like do with Kelly as none CEO.

My apologies, I’m having a really hard time understanding what you’re trying to say throughout your post. The main thing that I did get was that it mentions you in power armor when you’re not. Do you have a screenshot of that? It makes it easier to hunt down.

Very difficult to screenshot. Also copy/paste isn’t easy for me. On mobile.

‐--------------------

During talk on boat with Dante and Pykrete. Prior to Dock fight. When first meet Dante. It states power armor when not wearing one.

Then getting back to docks.

Docks sequence of saving kids:

First option to save children: only one survived

Second option to get evidence: no idea about its full details

3rd option: get evidence and save children.

Both options of saving kids is very same outcome. Perhaps should consider more than 1 at save children option.

CEO path I stopped at Chapter 16. Don’t like it. Lacks heroism feel unlike Worker did. (Worker gets to save coworker, save store, save Kelly, save a boy.) It was a save yourself or get others to save self as CEO. (Save convenience store and save Val, which Jordan did most of that.)

‐‐---------

Will try IT route instead, now. If trying to keep Kelly from suicide, save the boy is missing, then will opt out again.

Edit: some reason security officer when going Chameleon route the guard says:
moving further into the building.

“This isn’t my first rodeo, sir, I’m not falling for that one.”

Should be ma’am or lady, as would be abundantly obvious. Considering know the others suited with no skin showing are called ladies or women themselves. (Not wearing much but undies. Thigh highs, heels, fox tail, ears, bandolier, cape. Lots of skin, full mask though.)

Was able to copy paste that one, extremely hard to get it to copy properly way I desired.

Yep, its a tail with no pants or skirt with tail, thigh highs and heels, full mask with ears. Could get a top cover to help cover bra.

Rereading. First thought is, wouldn’t they think Im an escort, prostitute or stripper? Hmmm. Oops. But no skirt with tail.

I kind of thought of an interesting MC. It would be interesting if you could make a MC based on the “Darker than Black” anime MC. But currently it’s not possible since there’s no electricity powers nor can you use weapons like in the old demo. Still would’ve been an slightly fun MC to play as with the outfit choices you have in-game.

Using the profiles I made in the past. These are who I think would basically be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse based on the Darksider franchise.

MC: Pyra Blaze
Job: Factory Worker (Lugh RO maybe or someone else)

Civilian Profile (New Portrait)

Not a lot of people can do what she does. Not only has she been working out since she was 8 and hasn’t stopped yet but she even took up weapon training and somehow found herself a Claymore to use as a personal weapon. The decision to take up weapon training was an inspiration from some of the heroine she’s seen in comics and shows like Wonder Woman from DC and Lady Sif from Marvel. She always admired warrior women like those two and she felt that combined with her early training since childhood, it was a destined path for her. As a result of being heavily inspired by them, she gained a confidant nature that soon transformed into overconfidence since she always felt that the fact she trained so early and for so long as compared to everyone else gave her an advantage over them meant that she is fully confidant she can handle whatever happens from now on, even if she wasn’t expecting it.

After being struck by lightning, she sensed that she became a lot stronger as compared to before but she was at a lost of what to do with this new power. Without an outlet to let out her energy on, she felt like she was going to blow up anytime soon. That’s when she came up with the idea of being a Superhero or if she was going to be like her idols, a Vigilante since she knows that even though the comics and shows often soften up the actions that certain heroes take, realistically, warrior women like Wonder Woman do kill and that even she understands that some villains needs to be killed if the others won’t do it themselves. So she took up her Claymore and donned her armored costume to strike out against the criminals and future villains in hopes that not only can she make the world safer but also find a worthy nemesis to battle against.

1st MC: Zera Draken
Job: CEO

Civilian Profile

She is a woman who strive to maintain control by way of domination and protect what she treasures like how a Dragon treasures their hoard. Including people and close ones that she treasures. She was always so fascinated with dragons and things related to them that they even became her inspiration since they represented power, majesty, beauty, greed, domination and more importantly, rage. Since in most stories about them, whenever an individual incurs the wrath of a dragon, great chaos and devastation would happen on a scale that seem impossible for most mortal creatures to commit.

Once she’s gotten her powers, she was ecstatic once she saw that one of her abilities included fire! Though she was lacking in other category that some dragons have, she didn’t let that affect her much once she used the new inspiration that lightning strike gave her to build herself a suit to make up for the lack of features and abilities that she was missing. As a downside (though not to her) maybe because of her fascination with dragons, she became overconfident and even more greedy to the point where it would backfire on her at times and she became dangerously possessive once she became attracted to someone she likes and won’t show mercy to strangers that covets what’s hers.

13th MC: Nyx Spectra
Job: Factory Worker
Appearance: Long, Straight, Gray hair. Dark complexion, Amber eyes and Fit physique. Trench coat, black shirt, belt, and pants.

Civilian Profile

Nyx is a serious woman with a apathetic demeanor because of the things she experienced when she was younger and cause of how boring/stale her life become since then. Little did she expect that her life would do a complete 180 soon. Early in her childhood, someone told Nyx that there were only two kinds of people that exist. Prey and Predator. Prey being the downtrodden, the poor, the misguided and the weak. Predators being the rich, powerful, superbly intelligent and the famous. Nyx wanted to be one of the Predators to give herself a stable life and increase her chances of being one of the chosen few to succeed in life. Therefore, she underwent martial training, gained technical knowledge, learned how guns works and how to use her wits to see things that other people wouldn’t notice even if it was staring right at their faces. One of the trainings she took a liking to was one involving Sniper Rifles. When she first saw a sniper rifle, she felt a sense of kinship with them and showed that she has a special talent in sniping targets from afar along with a growing increase on knowledges related to technology to the point where she soon started inventing her own techs for her personal use. The recent growing dangers of the neighborhood she lives in ended up bolstering her to make herself stronger before something unexpected happens to her.

After being struck by lightning, Nyx felt an increase to her physical prowess that made her feel like something akin to a super soldier and gained new powers that complemented really well with her martial mastery and tech knowledge. Unfortunately, the lightning left her with a side effect of making her overconfident of her abilities thus making her often choosing decisions that involves her soloing most problems when she gets the chance.

During one of her outings, Nyx came across a mysterious female vigilante named Breaker who she took a serious liking too; especially since she felt they were similar to some degree. She only hoped that she would be able to get close to her later in the future.

After the Docks event, Nyx managed to salvage one of the vehicles. An Armored Car with so much armor and weaponry that it’s no different than a tank at this point. Nyx felt that this was a lucky find since she was lacking significant firepower when going up against tougher, stronger individuals like Pykrete and in case something bigger and stronger shows up in the future.

Strife

16th MC: Ashlynn Battleborn
Job: IT
Appearance: Long, ponytail black hair. Defined muscles physique. Dark complexion. Blue eyes. Black jacket.

Civilian Profile

When dealing with Ash. People need to remember four things. 1. She loves to joke around. 2. She loves to fight. 3. She always looks out for her friends/allies. And 4. Do not get on her bad side. She will kill you without hesitation. Fighting is natural for Ash. One might even say she’s a pro, nay, a master at it. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that all that’s in her head is the fight. She’s surprisingly smart when she can be. Smart enough to land a job as an IT. Regular gangs wasn’t much of a threat to Ash but when she started hearing how the gangs were gearing up for a possible war, movements being made in the shadows and crime rate being on the rise. She didn’t know what to do or how she was going to survive in the future if all of those potential dangers arrives on her doorsteps. Eventually she decided that if she’s going to go down anyway, she’ll go down fighting and make sure she takes a lot of the enemies with her. And then the lightning struck…

When she decided to take up Vigilantism, she chose her name based on one of the famous mythological beings. Sun Wukong. The Sage Equal to Heavens. Ashlynn was always interested in all things related to the Monkey King since to Ash, he was the perfect incarnation of a good balance between mischief, wisdom, and unstoppable violence.

I did thought about using Arsenal for Strife since she uses a Rifle but I went with someone different to closely represent the meaning of Strife as much as possible.

Really liked the story. Would have liked more moments to shine, and the last figth seemed to me a little bit… anticlimatic. Spoilers:

Summary

The mind control seemed like something out of nowhere, and honestly, I was a little disappointed by the ending. Also, the same happened with the “misunderstanding” with the other heroes. Personally, i liked more the idea of a team of villains than the “we all are good”. The Battle with the Final Boss was incredible, but as I said, the mind control broke the tensión of the Final battle. Even though, i’m forgiving no one, i don’t care if they thought they were the good guys, i watched minerva kill without remorse a group of workers in the base, and the rest were willing the same path. I’m sending everyone to prison

Also, i think i found a bug:

Summary

When choosing Denis destiny, doesn’t matter what you choose, he always end up dead. Maybe is not implemented yet?

Wait.

Did going through Camouflage story, not having a name when picking up Lucis. Then get back to Rowan. Huginn gave me name Retalliator. I comment and everyone but Breaker looked at me funny, cause super hearing. And Rowan said, yeah, that sounds good?! And accepted that name only me and Breaker could heard? No one looks her way from that also? Implications very strongly here.

Yeah, that’s an unreported bug. I’ll fix that in the next update. Thank you!

Yeah, I was afraid of that, but really the hints are there, so I doubt I’ll be adding anything to better set it up. My editor called it before the halfway point of the story.

To be honest, most of that team doesn’t see themselves as the “good guys” but instead have a narrative they’re pushing.

The final battle has so much coding in it, that I’m sure four different people reading could mention an event that another did not get. So I’m glad that it is well liked!

Thank you very much for your feedback! I will be adding more moments for the MC to shine in a future update and hopefully it’ll fix that critique.

As for the anticlimatic concern, what would you have preferred to have happen?

Was it Huginn? I thought it was Genesis when you go down the Cami route.

Maybe it was. I thought it was Huginn. If it is then thats ok

Hello everyone,

I was looking for feedback on a specific optional fight and wondered how many people got it, and thoughts on it. Slight spoilers followed by major spoilers.

The fight I’m looking for feedback on is the second Pykrete fight, which is in Chapter 25.

How to Trigger Fight

This fight only happens if you do not get the video evidence in chapter 13 and choose to go to the police station, instead of the underwater or air bases, in Chapter 24.

I am currently revising this fight’s beam struggle part, if you use a blast towards the end of the fight, and it occurred to me that no one has commented on this fight specifically, so I’m requesting feedback specifically on this fight.

Hello everyone,

I updated the demo with the last of the grammar and spelling revisions, so if you spot anything, let me know as I’m no longer on the lookout for them. There is an exception with the Genesis and Lugh routes since I did not revise those as I expect to do rewrites on them.

For everyone who aren’t fans of the Karma system, I would love your input on the changes I made in balancing the Karma system. There is now only one forced positive/negative Karma choice.

Also here is a sketch from the artist I hired for the “cover art”.

v4.14 Changes (03/16/2025):

  • Applied revisions for Chapter 6 (all routes), 8 (all routes), 11 (all routes), 15 (all routes), 16 (Breaker and Camouflage), 19 (all routes), 23 (all routes), 25 (all routes).
  • Added Superhuman Ranks back to the game.
  • Adjusted Karma choices.
  • Fixed Reported bugs

I haven’t checked yet. I did prefer the no karma and enjoyed myself a bit more. Will go through it soon.

Forgot to mention this.

When first meet Rowan at the old building. It is either ask whos talking or let someone else. And then next page you say, regardless if you asked, i dont know, why dont we ask them via opening the door. Its kinda weird if ask then make the statement like someone else asked.

I actually generally liked the karma system, but I’ll check what I think (and the odd issues) sometime this week.
