Yeah, but it does make it fun to try to plan around it. It would be a no-brainer if dumping it caused no challenge at all. As in, you better never move toward the net.
Btw, that reminds me â i was thinking how itâs a bit odd that our only âofficialâ source of skill gains are the training sessions⌠but the matches we play are, effectively, also few hours long âtraining sessionsâ where you get to practice everything and yet, it has absolutely no impact on the MCâs stats.
Itâd be quite nice, and would make some sense imo, if MC received some skill increases from played matches. (no matter if it was win or a loss, a loss can be very educational, too)
Yeah, i think gains per use may be a bit too much (both in terms of work and resulting gains) but something like +1 to stats per match after itâs concluded could be reasonable â we havenât played that many of them yet (and it could be easily done as a subroutine, to reduce work)
I was actually thinking something like that, it would be kind of a pain to go back and implement it for every single choice, but honestly, every time you use a skill, succeed or fail, you get better at it
I think this is a really good idea. Maybe +2 if you lose as a bit of a catch up mechanic for people that arenât doing so hot with their stat choices.
Let me do the math:
One point for the opening match of the game
One point each for the first two challenge matches
1 point for extending the third challenge match into three sets
One point each for the doubles matches
Thatâs a nice +6 to all of your stats if you do the best you possibly can throughout the game,; If you play the game casually, and just generally pay attention, then you should be fine, and if you read the code and optimize every single choice to the best you possibly can, then you get much more freedom to experiment with builds
Iâd probably exclude the prologue match from this, because there you already get +2-4 to relevant stats with each choices you make as it is. So like, +5 overall increase from the challenges and qualification doubles, and then a point from the ESU singles game (since the ESU doubles is relatively short, being just one set)
Yeah, and the matches in general arenât too difficult, with the freedom of choices you get, so if you lose a few, then youâre going to need that extra +2, anyway, I like this idea
Iâve replayed the demo.
With these stats, I pass âalmostâ all the stat checks for my main skills (Finesse, Agility and Tactics). Although Iâm not really sure.
Btw, G is my fav RO
Yay, the locker scene is back! But how can i get it? I tried flirting with Tobin, but that didnât change anything.
I love Sam, but G just lights the fire (imp no shade).
Fellow G enjoyer I see
Okay I just played the singles match and I have to say the guy from ESU Emilio I think pushed me to the absolute brinkđ. Still won though but wasnât expecting it to drag so long. Two tiebreaks in both sets and having to come back against the guy TWICE. Guess thatâs what you get when playing a counter puncher. And this was without beast mode active. Now Iâm curious as to how everyone else did. I may not follow tennis much anymore post the Nadal Federer and Novak era but this IF is making me want to get back into it. I could feel the tension in those words and the chapterđ.
Oh, thatâs sounding more and more fun. I prioritise endurance as part of my builds so I can drag things outâŚI donât want my opponents to walk off the courts, I wanna see them crawl.
That is a legitimately good choice. Endurance is also part of my build but I did not expect the guy to be cracked to that degree. I actually would have lost without it.
Hmm I see your point - the difficulty ramps up between Deepal and E. Nakamura, though I think itâs partially also because the skill checks for Deepal are just to take a set off Deepal/get a closer scoreline (the loss is inevitable). Perhaps a better way to go about this would be to throw in a couple of choices (*or repalce the current ones) with a stat check of > 38 or >40 or more, just to actually simulate what MCâs up against and why MC eventually loses. Definitely will think about this further.
Whoops oh no, I think this is an oversight on my part, might have been some overzealous editing at some point. Will add the indicator back in, I definitely meant for the indicator to provide some auto-wins / succeses here and there.
Hmm. This is fair. Perhaps the success in winning your opponent over after shit-talking them before may be dependent on charisma stat though. But good point! Iâll add it in.
@lea_nazihah - So glad youâre engaged by the tennis matches
Very interesting point! Yeah, readers are fully inhabiting MCâs shoes for this one.
@creedH00d - Awesome! As @Favour_Inyang mentioned, thereâs no auto skill level to pass all the checks, especially the challenge matches/doubles matches as those depend on choosing the options that best work to the stats youâve built up throughout the course of the game. However I will say that for the run / strength test / devilâs dozen, >24-26 generally is taken as a âcompetentâ with some skill checks being >28 or >29 at most. For the later checks (e.g. Jacks/doubles match and beyond) >30 is considered competent and >35 would be good/be sufficient for most of the more stringent checks. With some exceptions. As @rozane and @fsix have pointed out!
@eudyptara If youâre ranked No. 4, youâll be paired with Rayyan by default (with some exceptions). If youâre ranked No. 5, youâll be paired with Tobin by default (with some exceptions). If youâre No. 6, youâll be paired with Emerson by default and Tobin will offer to swap to partner you. (See a full tutorial here for more details).
Finally, on the suggestion to allow MCs to get better after each match, thatâs a brilliant idea. Iâll think about how best to implement that!
Can we have a cheat mode where we have the ability to basically win every matchâŚand by that i mean ability to get to no 1 in ranking ? If not then a way to get to no 1 but with extremely hard stat checks.
I do understand it will require lot of work and tweaks.
( i am asking option to have a choice in pre determined matches on who wins )
Just edit your stats.
Even with edit âŚyou cannot get to no 1.
Some matches have pre determined loss.
Would love option to have choice to win in those.
Reaching number one in the ranking is a story thing, not a stat thing, itâll probably happen further along in the story when we get more chances to play challenge matches
I know. That is the reason i said i understand it would require lot of edit and tweaks.
But my point of view is setup can be done same way with the character who we lost in start with but role reversal where there are trying cathing upto us after they lose.Only for this mode .
