It’s worth mentioning that sandbox games like Night Road tend to rely on customization and replayability for their appeal, not necessarely personal links between the story and the protagonist’s background.
The Courier or the Dragonborn don’t really have a background beyond what you create for them. They’re just someone who stumbled onto a conflict and decided to do something about it.
Likewise, I’d say the strongest aspect of Night Road is the ability to customize your character. Do you want to be a Toreador with Obfuscate who specializes in Melee combat? Go for it.
Of course, this won’t necessarely appeal to everyone.
Anyone who posses Auspex discipline can see the future regardless from which clan their from, the one renown for their farsights are usually the Malkavians and Toreadors.
Out of the four VtM games provided through Choice Of Games, I’ve only played ‘Out For Blood’. I’ve tried the free demonstrations for ‘Parliament Of Knives’ and ‘Sins Of The Sires’. Neither excited me enough to purchase the full game. The info in this forum indicates to me that the full game of ‘Sins Of The Sires’ is probably not worth my time.
Right now, I am wondering if I should buy the full game of either ‘Parliament Of Knives’ or ‘Night Road’, whilst I’m waiting for the 3rd Werewolves game to be released. I would prefer a game that has a well written role for a female romance option for a male Master Character. Which vampire game would people here recommend? I know that the romance options for ‘Parliament’ seem to be limited in number.
You should go with Parliament of Knives, imo.
Jordan can be chosen to be male or female and has their own path throughout the game (opposed to other potential allies), so you are going to spend a lot of time with her.
There was also an update announced that will add a female RO.
While Night Road has romance options, I think scenes with them are rather sparse. It’s not a game I would recommend based on the romance.
I would say it depends on what you’re more interested in. Parliament is more of a political intrigue while Night Road is a hub based action (I’d probably liken it to Breach: Archangel Job).
In terms of romancing female characters, I’d say Parliament probably does it better? I believe one of the two romances is gender flippable while in Night Road there are female romance options, the male romance options are far more satisfying.
‘I think you’ll like Parliament if you liked Werewolves, but I may be biased because I wrote both of them!’
Yes, I know! Thanks for your message, GreekWinter! I might go for ‘Parliament Of Knives’, then - whilst waiting for ‘Werewolves: Evolution’s End’ to be released.
Irrespective of whether it happens in the final game or not (and this is only a suggestion), I would love to see - following Maker’s experiments, if some of the Werewolf Rights Now characters (particularly Anna) had the choice to become werewolves themselves. After the female Dena (as per my username), Anna is my favourite character in the games. And it would be interesting to see if any of the werewolves wanted to become human. Anyway, whatever you have planned, I’m looking forward to the completion of the trilogy!
What is your damage with DLC?? I personally never had an issue paying $3 for some extra clans, you were never forced to get the extra clans in the first place, it was just a “flavour text” option imo. Most of them released quite a bit after the game originally released anyway, which was a nice way to keep the game relevant.
I argued with them before because they stated that the DLCs are simply “cash grabs”. It is not the case but their other concerns were valid. They view the product as dissappointing and that’s okay. What’s not okay is that you think of the authors as greedy simply because there is no regional pricing in the app store.
No need to add to the flame I think. The issue was settled at least.
I hope COG eventually branches out to the other WOD splats.
There are some games; particularly the ones dealing with the WOD’s various spirit worlds; that would find it hard to be properly translated into videogame format; it’s one thing to create a spooky ghost mansion, another thing entirely to properly render Stygia, the capital of the Western dead, in all the macabre glory it deserves.
Yeah sorry I came to the forums a bit late, and didn’t realise the issue had been settled until my post was linked in! Didn’t mean to stoke the flames after the fact, I’m just behind
Highly agree. Man I wonder how good Out for Blood be if it’s under the new Hunter: The Reckoning and not V5. Unlike most people I liked the game but I can see its flaws and agree with the criticisms.
The issue I had with Out for Blood was that it was as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. It just tried to take on way too many angles and therefore none of it felt fully developed. I mean it tried to deal with Hunters, Vampires, Thin-Bloods, Human Corruption, Romance and while it touches on each of these none of them felt fully fleshed out. The whole story could have centered around one or two of those options and been better for it in my opinion.
I really enjoyed Night Road cause it felt like a traditional VtM story, so many different little side missions and character option really had me drawn in. As a Canadian is was able to really appreciate Parliament of Knives, even had a few times where I smiled cause I could say, “Hey, I’ve been there!!” Also, just imagining Canadian vamps with the stereotypical accent and constantly saying sorry just makes me happy.
It took me a while to like Out for Blood. After spending a couple decades moving through the night as a Malkavian, or Gangral, or Tremere, my three fav clans, it took me a while to really appreciate taking on the roll of a nerdy bookstore chick trying to lead her ragtag group against the vamps. Even if it was just a group of thin-bloods and most likely a thirteenth gen at best. That was hard enough, imagine if what’s her face had been twelfth, or even eleventh gen, would not have stood a chance!! But yeah, after Night Road OfB is my second fav VtM story, followed by PoK.
As for Sins, it was alright, but it felt like it was basically like riding a train with only slight changes based on which side of the train I was look out of. I probably wont be reading it again as I feel it has no replayability.
I don’t know how many times you played, but I would suggest it might be more worth revisiting than you think. It’s true that there’s not a lot of branching most of the way through (although there are extra scenes you can unlock based on your relationships with the characters, and the nuanced flavoring text is a thing of beauty), but in the last few chapters, there’s a lot. As I’ve said before, I could easily name a dozen distinct endings just off the top of my head, and there are things I’ve seen when I looked at the code that I still haven’t managed to accomplish in any playthrough.
It’s probably not the kind of game you’d want to play several times in a row. But wait a few weeks or months and then play again with a different character build and focus, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
As much as I dislike Sins, I don’t think it’s at all lacking in replayability. Even the demo has quite a bit of replayability. I simply don’t enjoy it enough to want to replay it.
Now that I have played Werewolf The Apocalypse Heart of the Forest which was my introduction to it, I would love for there to be a Werewolf COG game. Perferbly one longer then Heart as much as I like it the vn was very short for it’s price. I’m also pretty sure what tribe you picked doesn’t matter since i was able to once again get the happy peaceful ending on my second run despite unlocking and picking Get of Fenris as my tribe
