Will do, and thanks!

Hello, I have a problem. I am facing problems with the save slots. When I save something, it says “Save failed. Try again, free up more space, or delete some slots or old archives.” When I do that, it is useless. I use the save slots on the web. Please help me. Thank you for this wonderful work.

Hello again! Minor issue but wanted to drop it in here that I cannot access the “Favorites” page anymore. It always shows me a 505 Server Error.

You’re welcome! Sorry you’re having trouble.

Are you saving on the initial screen of the game? If you try to do that, you get the ‘save failed’ error (i.e., progress through a couple of screens and try saving again).

If that isn’t your problem, try clearing your cache for the site, then try your saves again (this will make you lose all of your local saves).

Last suggestion: try a different browser or a private instance of whatever browser you’re using. I’ve seen a couple of people here have trouble like this, but were able to get it working from a different browser (kiwi, for example). I’ve never encountered this problem (unless I had ten saves and tried to overwrite one because I wasn’t paying attention), but I only use Brave or Firefox. I’ve also tested on Tor browser, which causes problems if my IP ends up in certain countries.

Hi! This is one I haven’t seen yet, and favorites appears to be working fine. Which browser are you using now? Have you updated it lately?

Any estimate on the save version control? Even bugfixes causes the game to start from beginning

Thank you so much for this! I tried what you said and now I’m able to access the website on both my laptop and phone

Sorry for the late reply (I didn’t initially understand your instructions, so I only just figured out how to implement what you suggested)

Still using Safari. Not sure what you mean by updated but yeah I don’t know, it still doesn’t seem to work for me.

I have tried it but it still doesn’t work.

How can I do that if I use Crome?
And I have tried to use Fayerfox but it didnt Work. I thank you so much for your Help.

As soon as the dev finishes the Patreon plugin (he’s on the last part now), he’ll start on save version control. I’ve been trying to map out the best way to handle it, but if anyone has any suggestions/thoughts/whatever, feel free to mention them. You can either DM me or put them here.

My husband and I were talking about it earlier, and he had an interesting suggestion for those who just really don’t want to restart no matter what–and that is, for new variables, check the save and compare, and if the player wants to use their save anyway, set the variable as whatever the default is in startup and let them keep going. I’m not sure how well that would work, though.

@ChairmanMeow I’m glad you got it working! I probably need to put some of the troubleshooting info at the first post so it’s easier to find. I’ve seen a few people have the 505 error, and am not sure why. I’ve checked the DNS records, and they’re fine, but some ISPs don’t seem to like me!

You may want to try a different browser to test. There’s no reason your favorites wouldn’t work, unless the database somehow got corrupted. If you want me to check, DM your CoGDemos username and I will see if your favorites are still there.

@Fatemafehan To clear your cache for the site in chrome, please follow the steps here:

Just curious… are all ten save slots filled for your game(s)? Are these local or server-side saves? Have you tried saving using the other method (i.e., if local saves are giving you trouble, have you tried server-side saves)?

I’m sure at least some games expect the value to be changed from what’s in startup, so it may cause errors… on the other hand, the player should have some responsibility here. On the third hand, then they’ll complain to the author when they corrupted their saves themselves.

Could it be they accept only whitelisted domains?

Yeah, I agree the player should have some responsibility, but at this point, I’d rather have players harassing the author than me when their saves don’t work. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think, in general, the save system seems to be fine. I have never been able to replicate the issues some players are having with the “failed to save” error. There are only two places in the code that specific error is triggered: one is if storage is full and the other is if you try to save over a save file (you have to delete it first). Otherwise, that error simply never gets triggered. The only thing I can think of is that some people are using really old devices with little space, they have never cleared their browser cache, or they have never allowed their browser to update. And I can try to provide device support to some extent (which is why I keep posting info on how to clear your cache, change your DNS servers, etc.), but unless I can see the error happen and look at the device myself, I can’t do much more than that.

Possibly, but that would be kind of a pain in the ass, unless there’s a script auto-updating white-listed domains. Personally, I’ve always preferred using DNS servers of my own choosing (or an internal DNS server I set up myself), instead of my ISP’s domains. Years ago, when I was on AT&T, I had tons of DNS issues until I finally changed my settings. After that, I never went back.

I honestly think that many readers are being ridiculous with the save system. These games are in active development. That means many code changes, and yes, sometimes the saves will break, no matter what. It’s absolutely inevitable. The games cannot be developed in any other way.

Force-loading the old saves exactly as they are, or from the beginning of a chapter, would at least prevent the game to restart when I fix a single typo in the middle of a game. So I’d like that. I don’t think it has to be any fancier than that. If they come complaining that their old save breaks the game after a major update that I warned about, just watch me ignore them.

On a related (and not at all urgent) topic, I was wondering if maybe you could organize the saves so that the newest comes up on the top of the list. At the moment, they are organized by oldest to newest, so when I have 40 saves, I always have to scroll to the bottom to load up the newest one.

Edit: Actually, I had an idea. Instead of restarting the game when the files are changed by the author, why don’t you just make a pop-up window that says: hey, the game files changed since you made this save. That can break the game. Are you sure you want to load it? And if they go yes, it can force-load. Then it’s completely out of our hands and 100% clear that it’s their responsibility.

I have been play through several WIP’s since the switch to CoG Demos. Once i am done with my play throughs, I go back through and delete my save files. Now when I try to save, I get a message that my save slots are all full and I need to delete saves. I thought I was doing that. Is there a secret to deleting all of your previous saves? Thanks.

Are these server saves or local saves? If it’s the former, then I would suggest making sure you’re picking the right save location.

It defaults to local storage, even if you’re logged in, so you have to pick server storage to delete from the serverr.

If the trouble you’re having is with your local saves, trying clearing your cache/deleting your cookies for the site. That should take care of it, as the saves are stored in temp files.

Thank you Chani. I will make sure I take care of my server and l9cal saves.

I keep getting this error— is there any way to fix it?

Refreshing the browser hasn’t resolved the issue, and I’ve tried clearing my cache and switching browsers without success.

Thanks in advance for your help.

@Kelse_DeAngelo Try adding “/mygame” at the end of the URL. I found one public game by you and was able to get to it with this link:

It should work the same for your private games, but I didn’t want to try your links without permission.

Sorry for the late response—it’s around 1 in the morning over here. @EvilChani

I tried everything you suggested, but I’m still getting the 500 error. If it’s not too much trouble, I can send you the link to DS so you can try it on your end. You have my full permission, and I really appreciate your help.

I’ve actually been dealing with this issue since March. At the time, I thought maybe COGDEMOS had a limit on how many stories could be posted to the dashboard, so I just swept my concern under the rug.

It’s working now :woman_dancing:. I reached out to someone who had the same issue in the past, and it turns out the problem was caused by a space in my file name. After removing the space and keeping the name compact/together, the issue was resolved. So please don’t worry about it—I really appreciate you looking into it earlier. Thank you again for your help @EvilChani

Yeah, spaces in filenames is something you absolutely should avoid in anything web-related.
