COGDemos bugs/requests

That’s mainly what I wanted to know, so I can be sure I didn’t cause any other issues with what I did. It should only impact the login/register/password reset forms.

That’s the funny part–a bot here would serve no purpose, really. For the most part, they just do it to access gated content or try to spam people (website owner as well as users), but they can also launch cyberattacks through the forms.

The main reason they’re causing me grief is that, with them repeatedly signing up with fake accounts on moody, now that I have the verification turned on, it’s causing a ton of bounced emails. Those bounced emails cause problems with the smtp provider (if I was serving it on my server, it would probably crash it with all this bot activity), which lowers trust for my domain, which means everything would go to spam.

Since people need to be able to reset passwords and create genuine logins, that’s not a good thing. Plus, if I don’t do something, I’m afraid sendlayer will insist I set up captchas. Have I mentioned how much I loathe captchas???

I haven’t heard back from him yet. Are you getting a “failed to save” message or the “storage full” error? If it’s ‘failed to save’, someone pointed out to me that they have only seen that when all ten save slots are used–and after deleting one or more saves, they are able to save again. If it’s “storage full”, have you tried a different browser?

I tried saving on stillwater, one of the newest demos with no saves and i get a failed to save error. I also tried deleting all my saves on a game and get the same error message.

The dev got back to me about these issues and, like me, he needs more information. So…

Anyone having save issues, please take screenshots and upload them here:

Any extra information you can provide would be great (browser used, browser version used, mobile/pc/tablet, if you tried any other browser and still had the same issue, anything you did in an attempt to troubleshoot, etc.).

I created a spreadsheet with a list of information to include in your bug report. You can upload screenshots directly to the folder, just put the name of the file in the spreadsheet so we know where to look.

In the meantime, the dev said we could try an alternate save driver that will store saves in the indexed DB of the browser, which is capable of handling a large number of saved items. I think I’m going to go ahead and get him to go with that and, if possible, go ahead and add versioning to make save compatibility easier to determine.

Thanks, everyone.

Edit: I also made a spreadsheet to track suggested features. Feel free to add any features you’d like to see.

I found the old tablet and I made more than a 100 saves. Still no error. I’m using Chrome and it’s a 10 year old android tablet. It doesn’t have much RAM or whatever you call it either, so… I was also trying to keep an eye on the browser data that’s stored for the website. It started off around 400-ish KB when I simply opened the website for the first time, and now it’s still under 600 KB, even after a hundred saves. As a comparison, Facebook stores more than 1 MB with me almost never using Fb.

Not sure why only you are getting this error. Maybe try an entirely new account to save on server?

You should add this to first post as well

The only place I’ve had “failed to save” error (and that happens in every game) is on the first page (startup, maybe?)

Hi!

So I know someone else here mentioned that they get a 500 error when they tried to play a game and it was an issue of the author either having no files uploaded or deleting them.

I revised my game since I first uploaded it. I wanted to put the new version on CoG demos privately so I could get feedback from friends and family.

I deleted the initial files from my private upload and re uploaded the new .txt files. However, now I am getting this message:

Our apologies; there was a 500 error while loading game data. Please refresh your browser now; if that doesn’t work, please email support-game-id-4692-web@choiceofgames.com with details.

I’ve refreshed, cleared my website data, deleted the original project and created a new one with a slightly different title, but still get the same error. The files are uploaded, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any help would definitely be appreciated!

Glad to hear some of the save problems were solved!

The dev finished another part of the Patreon plugin. I am going to start setting it up on moody.diy tonight, so the site may go down briefly, or longer if I can’t get it working. When it’s ready to test for authors, I will let you know here.

The updated code is on moody.diy. You can link your account to your Patreon account (you have to use the same email address for both). I managed to get mine linked.

@jcollins You can choose to make a game patreon-access only in the dashboard. At the moment, it might not work. This was just the first step. The next one shoud deal with having multiple creators with different accounts and various patreon levels.

I keep trying to play this game on cogdemos called “Light & Wheel” I found it a few days ago and when I opened it I got the 500 error. Then I saw it was updated today, so I tried to open it again. It still won’t let me play. Does anyone know why?

I’m not familiar with it but I don’t see it on the site when I search so I’d assume the author has deleted it or made it private. If the author has a blog/website/contact details anywhere you could always ask them there.
