Choice of the Vampire - community input [SEE POST 1305]

For the bullets (I think) you need a certain amount of intelligence/lore, so that might affect the super combative build; OR Padre Carlos as your dominus (and a good relative good relationship with him) but that removes West from your lover/dominus scenario.

And if you want full combat scores like it says in your screenshot you have to be fighting “fake West”, so that is another hit against the dominus/lover scenario.

:confounded:

I’ve just pushed a new build to the beta.

If you have $combat >= 12 and >= 3 downfall points, you’ll get the final scene with West.

b_present refers to Becard being present.

So, silver + Becard + assistants / dynamite should get you there.

Hahahaha, that makes so much more sense!

And yessss! Thank you! Gonna confront that bish now!

People, i’m lost. How do i get 12 combat points? What are downfall points. West is just killing me at the fair. :pensive: Do i survive to see the end of the book if i just choose not to go with becard?
Ps: Thanks for helping me with my valet. At least now i’m dying to west.

Combat is, I believe, Agility + Strength + (Fighting x 1,5) + Weapon (if you have one) plus Claws (if you have Shapeshifting 3)

So, let’s say that you have Agility 3, Strength 4, Fighting 2 and a weapon. That’s 3+4+(2x1,5) + 2 (I think a Weapon gives you 2, I’m not sure) which equals 12.

Downfall points are the ways you can stack the odds against West and in your favour. I don’t know them all just out of the top of my head but I know that you can use silver, hire human assistants, ask BĂ©card to come with you, use dynamite on West and ask the new Governor to summon Padre Carlos.

Keep in mind that things like using dynamite require an entirely different set of stats which are, I believe, Agility 3, Willpower 3 and Technology 2.

With that being said, you don’t need all of this in order to survive fighting West, only to “defeat him”, so to speak. I think with Combat 8 and a couple of downfall points, you should be able to be rescued by Memeskia or Praetor Carlos.

As a last resort you can, of course, just tell Hiram that you’re not going to help them fight West and not show up. That way, your survival is guaranteed.

How do i get weapons, specially silver bullets? Silver bullets and dynamite are the only weapons that can damage him?

Honestly, I haven’t been able to get silver bullets myself.

I think you need to have Intelligence 2 or 3 or be Padre Carlo’s childe in order to learn about the bullets early enough. Then you need to try and spread rumours about a werewolf as much as you can so that the smiths of St.Louis know how to make silver bullets. Then you still need to be Tribune so that you can buy a rifle and only then can you buy silver bullets.

In order to get a weapon, in general, you need to be Tribune.

Silver is mostly a two-step process. (Asking Carlos for help short-circuits that and just gives it to you.)

First you have to learn about the Beast of Gévaudan, and then you need to make the connection to silver.

The easiest place to do that is right after the Knights of Labor moment, when you have a brief chat with Bailey/Aichinger/Eliot about West, there’s an “open” choice about what to do about West. This is where you can write to Padre Carlos, for example. You can also “try to learn more about werewolves,” and that gives you the first step, GĂ©vaudan.

You can also ask the Spanish performers at the circus about werewolves, and they’ll tell you about GĂ©vaudan.

When the Werewolf of Ste. Genevieve sequence happens, you can talk to Eliot. This just pushes you along the track: if gevaudan = false, it makes gevaudan true; if gevaudan = true, it makes silver true; if silver is already true, it improves your rapport with Eliot.

Sometime around 1896, if you are involved with the Spiritualists or are friends with the Spencer Sisters, and you know about Gévaudan, you get silver for free.

Sometime around 1902, you can move the track forward by one if your intelligence > 1 by researching at the Mercantile Library: either from nothing to gevaudan, or from gevaudan to silver.

During the Fair, if you’re either the Tribune or $west_exposure >= 4 (at the moment where you can get assistants or a weapon) you can also “discover” silver if gevaudan is already true.

Which begs the question, how do you get $west_exposure? It starts at 0.

  • If the beast is actually West, then there’s an automatic +1 during the play-as-West sequence.
  • When deciding what to do about the widow (if she’s still alive), removing her memory is -1, while doing nothing gives +1.
  • Writing to Padre Carlos (if he’s your sire) gives +1.
  • When West faces off with the gunslinger in Hannibal, several of the options grant +1.
  • During the open choice in 1894-ish, you can encourage hysteria around werewolves; that gives +1.
  • If Wotton is the beast, and you flee to Chicago with Annie, that gives +1.
  • If the beast “randomly” kills Annie while she’s a vampire sometime around 1902, and you “swear vengeance,” that gives +1.
  • If you have the conversation with Memeskia about the Battle of Fort San Carlos, you get +1.

If you think there’s another moment where it’d be appropriate to give +1 to $west_exposure, or a moment to move the gevaudan/silver track forward, I’m all ears!

I gave it a try but I think I somehow managed to miss both of these sequences because upon reaching the Fair, the option “There must be a weakness we’ve overlooked” showed up.

Is feeding from Socialites in Memphis enough to be friends with the Spencer Sisters?

If you’re Southern or French (and not a priest), and choose Merchants in Memphis. Or Socialites, yes.

They have to be sending you a portion of their revenue to trigger the scene with them.

Otherwise, you can get it by having your STL Enterprise be Spiritualists and Mediums (but it’s a lot thinner of a scene).

Did you have a decent relationship with Eliot? You have to have at least a rapport of 50 for the option to be available.

Is it impossible for a German vampire, then? Because I was receiving a portion of their revenue.

I believe so, tough I couldn’t say whether it reached 50 or not.

I don’t know why it would be impossible for a German. The other requirement is that $werewolf_hysteria be > 3.

Ah, thank you very much, that was the issue. I had been trying to protect the Rule of Reserve at every opportunity.
Which, btw, reminds me. If the MC exerts himself/herself towards protecting the Masquerade from West, maybe there could be some form of reward»

Anyway, still didn’t manage to actually talk with West but I did manage to hurt him this time which was better than all my previous attempts. Maybe the issue was that I had summoned Praetor Carlos and he doesn’t give West the opportunity to speak?
BTW, this might be a stupid question but in order for silver to count towards West’s downfall, do we have to use it on him or is simply knowing about silver enough?

Well, if you summon Praetor Carlos, despite not being his childe, then he’ll be armed with a silver maul indicating he knows about West’s weakness to it.
It might be appropriate for him to inform a Tribune MC of it so long as the MC didn’t anger Carlos (such as what happens if the MC is his childe and trans)

Maybe with enough Charm or Status he could even give you a silver weapon. It doesn’t benefit him for his bait to not even be capable of scratching West’s hide, after all.

If you know about silver, you acquire bullets and give them to Hiram, regardless of anything else. There is a further $combat bonus if you get refined silver bullets, but not another $downfall point. And silver doesn’t make a difference if you yourself have a weapon (like, you don’t get two $downfall points for you and Hiram).

That’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to cogitate on how I could include it.

I noticed that a conversation with Hiram at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition is planned. Seeing that “Hagenbeck’s Wild Animals” was an exhibit there, perhaps a vegetarian MC could propose feeding together if they told Hiram before about feeding from animals?

and maybe while the blood is still running hot they could kiss or something idk

Ahem. I think this would be delightful because of COURSE my MC would fall for him only to later lose him, the way she lost Silas.

But seriously, though, Memeskia is a hot wolf man and I wouldn’t say no to kissing him either. Just let us kiss a few people, Jason! I think our vampires have hit puberty. Thanks! :DD

You can actually kiss Estefania and Jesse if you have a high enough rapport and feed with them.

Kissing a mass-murdering savage you mean? i think Memeskia’s personality would not be suitable for a relationship sexual or otherwise lol.
