Looking at the code, it seems to be possible to actually speak with West during the final battle.
Has anyone managed to pull it off?

Despite having Agility 3, Strength 4, Fighting 2 and a weapon, I still got the ā€œmeagre defencesā€ line when fighting West. Is that normal? I was hoping that Iā€™d at least be able to hurt him.
I mean, isnā€™t that Combat 12?

I think thatā€™s combat 10.

Fighting is (fightingx1,5) and I believe that a weapon adds 1 to combat.
So, 3+4+3+1=11 (I thought that a weapon added 2 rather than 1 hence why I originally mentioned 12)
Plus, I knew about silver, had BĆ©card with me and Praetor Carlos was hiding in ambush but I still got the ā€œmeagre defencesā€ line.
I thought I would do better.

you should use helper instead of carlos they will try to keep west/wotton of with torches thus extra damage to him

you can if your mc is career choice is criminal or german pankration, let sabine become the tribune and before facing west choose the helper and voila

At this point I just gave up on trying so hard to beat West. Takes away all the fun.

I had to juggle a lot of options and make some sacrifices but I think I finally managed to make a character I am happy with going into St.Louis.

Nope, lol. I think you need Intelligence, Technology and a criminal background? Iā€™d have to create an entirely new character to do that.

just make sure your haven at east st louis and have 1 tech and 1 pecerption
if your dominus is west he will actually confirmed looking for tryphon

I assume you mean your valet in St.Louis? Being nice to them generally prevents them from rebelling.
