I have a different kind of suggestion. Has anyone ever given any thought to new origins for our MC? I love all of the ones we have, of course, but it’d be interesting to see different paths as well. Here are some ideas that I have:
-
Latin American Revolutionary: Spanish, Illiterate, Focus on fighting and strength/charm
-
Redcoat Officer: English, Literate, Focus on fighting and charm/intelligence
-
Doctor: Possibly German (Only one German path so far, so why not?), Literate, Focus on tech and intelligence/charm
-
Napoleonic Veteran/Officer: French, Literate, Focus on fighting and Strength/Intelligence
-
Haitian Revolutionary: French, Illiterate, Focus on fighting and Strength/Willpower
These are just some ideas that I had while going through all the great paths that have already been made.
I think the most glaring issue with these proposed backgrounds is how they would almost certainly be unavailable to women.
That’s a fair point! I still think the revolutionaries could fit arguably in either aisle, but the soldiers do seem exclusionary. Maybe the female equivalents could be diplomats or even spies? Doctor could possibly be switched to “scientist”, which I believe would work with both (I only really wanted another tech based route).
Sorry about that! I didn’t mean to exclude in any way! I was just posting about some ideas that I had and was wondering anyone else had come up with any similar concepts. Sorry again!
Pushed a new draft. It includes my additions from the past two weeks, as well as fixing these bugs. I’ve added the Bowater-text idea to the TODO list.
I wonder how Sainte-Chapelle would feel if he knew that, in his time in New Orleans, all four of the core members of the court were heretics. Sainte-Chapelle is a member of the Freemasons and then recruited Jesse into the order, this presumably pseudo-Illuminati. Meanwhile, Estefania inducted my priest into the Children of Abraham.
My priest has since met Estefania again in St. Louis, where she revealed more to him, about how they believe that Ishmael is the progenitor of all their kind and are seeking his resting place to awaken him from his long torpor. Seeking lore about vampires and their origins is one of the driving motivations of my priest, so he will continue learning more about the Children of Abraham. Depending on how the situation develops, he may step away from the Children as advised by Senator Timmers.
It could have gone in another direction. Sainte-Chapelle could have inducted my priest into the Freemasons, though my priest would have probably nonetheless remained ambivalent about it all, even after being recruited.
Gender disagreement. The his in the following should be her before game:
To most everyone’s surprise, you have bested the young woman at his own game. She was as talented as they said, but you happen to have been the more skilled fencer.
You might want to tweak the cult stats. I had a discretion of 82, and still got whacked.
That is why I suggested a more scientific bent vampire might devise something which could clot blood, using their own in a dish…perhaps this could take west down another peg or two.
The explosive is a good idea, too
The cult attack is not based on $discretion, but on $exposure. You accrue $exposure through doing things that attract attention—things that give you a spooky, suspicious, or criminal reputation. But I’ve just upped that threshold to 15 from 12. We’ll see what that does?
Hi! At the latest update, the scene that displays the attitude of Jesse, our maker, and Estefania in vol. 1 seems to be bugged. The said scene display many variations of relationship dynamics that should not be possible in one sitting.
That’s cool. I’ll try to give it a run through later. I also need to recompile a list of minor stuff (spelling/code showing/etc.)
I also came across your Blavatsky entry. You did a great job of incorporating the material.
Another gender mismatch:
With this, Dido lays a hand on Apollo’s chest. “Apallah, she dinna mean nuttin’ by it. She be young, he don know no betta’.”
In this play through, the MC is female so after young, I think it should be she
Just a few more minor things/inconsistencies.
First, there was another instance of Dido being alive/dead at the same time. This occurs if you Carother’s decides to drink Dido’s heartsblood. Dragging in a captured vampire (Wilson, etc.) Dido is told to take him out, but later on the same page Carother’s mentions taking ‘care of her’. I can provide a screen cap later if you need it.
A bit on the cult front; don’t worry it isn’t about being discovered. The number change you made is perfect. In this case it was Del fighting with Amanda. One instance they fought, he killed her and I killed him. Later on a passage emerges where he offs her, and I could turn him into a vampire. I will try to get screen caps for this since I know this can be tough to track down. I’m only mentioning it in case you see it early.
Finally here are more minor things.
Original:
Later that summer, Amanda brings ill news. It seems that Hermann, the accountant, was skimming from your cult. Hermann, the child of German immigrants, was functionally Amanda’s second-in-command, dealing with much of the administrativia of the organization. Unfortunately, Hermann was confronted by undecided over this treachery, and committed suicide before facing your justice.
Suggestion: In the last sentence it has the name ‘Undecided’ when someone else (like Del) should be (it is only bolded above for emphsasis) This happens every time I go with a female German background character and do the cult thing.
Original: 2 more sentences related to the above where Undecided is used instead of a name:
She informs you that she intends to groom undecided to take Hermann’s place.
undecided is part of a new generation of your cult; it is good that they be given some recognition in it.
Original:
"Did I profit?
No, not like you did. Though, I suppose, I should have not expected more of you."
“Scorpions and frogs,” you reply
Suggestion: A quotation mark starting at the second sentence.
Original:
The at least four attackers, men and women, die during the assault. (You lose at least twice that many disciples.) Unfortunately, undecided dies in the battle.
Suggestion: 2 things here. The first sentence needs to be more clearer ‘The at least four attackers,’ is off. The second part is another ‘undecided’
The dominus’ eventually lose interest in MC (romantic) which is sad. Is West like this, Jason? What attracted him to St. Louis? Memeskia, MC or just vampires in general?
It is difficult to learn, but West is in St. Louis because of a very specific vampire. It is one of the true ancients, akin to a Methuselah perhaps. That one is Tryphon, childe of Olympias, childe of Consul Sostrate. Memeskia and Tryphon fought long ago. The result was inconclusive, with both ancients sinking beneath the earth to heal in torpor. While Memeskia awakened, Tryphon has yet to rouse from his long torpor, even now slumbering beneath St. Louis.
West was drawn to St. Louis specifically because of Tryphon, for his vitae is old and potent, an irresistible lure to a diablerist like West.
How do you learn that? I learned a bit about the ancients from Gudrun, but not about Tryphon.
Hm, well, if I understand correctly, in the process of choosing Tribune, one can speak with Memeskia and ask him why West is in St. Louis. If one has investigated Memeskia sufficiently, he will speak of Tryphon, though not by name, and the battle of so long ago. Given how the variables are currently set, though, it does not seem possible to have Memskia disclose this detail.
If one did somehow learn of Tryphon from Memeskia, they can meet Therese Maffi during the fair and ask her more about Tryphon. While she does not know Tryphon’s name, she reveals that he is of Sostrate’s lineage, along with the fact that Olympias, Governor of Athens, and Nikomedes, Governor of Paris, are both childer of Sostrate. It seems that Sostrate Embraced numerous childer before her Final Death in 1453.
Finally, one can exchange final words with West before killing him. If they have previously learned of Tryphon, they can ask West if he is seeking the ancient slumbering in St. Louis. West will confirm it, along with the fact that Olympias is Tryphon’s sire.
So, it turns out I only have four origin-stories for the kid so far. And, in fact, they’re all pretty hard to hit. You’re referencing Del, but I’m guessing you never see Del and the Undecided bug in the same playthrough.
Are there any other youths that you could imagine wanting to wreak long-term vengeance on the player?
And yes, screenshots of the other two bugs (Carothers/Dido and Del/Amanda) would be immensely helpful. I fixed the scorpion/frog one.
Thank you! I think I’ve fixed this? I’ll push a patch now.
So how do you manage to do that, do you have to get lore 4 or there any other way to get him talking like that ?
say what about lewis wotton given if the mc decided to kill west at the prologue during the battle of new orleans, the only backstory about him is west embraced him back at the early 18th century but nothing more than that
Now I want to know about Lewis Wotton! He lived in the lost Roanoke colony. Hmmm did West wipe out that entire colony? Jason… You have excellent characters. I love you, stay gold Pony Boy.
