Choice of Rebels Part 1 WIP thread

@Headhunter180 I can definitely Radmar being the traitor and Breden knowing so, that’d be a pretty interesting turn of events

@FortunesFaded thinking about it logically he IS the only one with absolutely no verifiable alibi, second, when asking Breden “whodunit?” she, for some reason, immidiately goes to Radmar, I never asked about Radmar though, I asked about who could and could not have done it, and she only speaks about Radmar, NONE of the others, that sent my alarms (or spidey senses if you will) wailing/tingling. And thirdly the game is making it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too obvious that its Breden, and simply by analyzing the quality of writing in this game you can tell that the writer would not do something that simple.

Breden the ugly traitor is dead in my game thankfully even if he is not a traitor he is a coward he could sing in torture and being sincere after the scare forest scene lol. i was like No other game with rape inside no please!! i know its stupid but this week i read two here Im rather paranoia with theme.

So i would kill him always about radmar i don’t trust him but i don’t trust noone, my worst fear its my father he clearly want sell me to empire he could have new babies. I want to conspire with nobles and let helots to rude labor they are so good i offered them a constitution; not harrowing ; not slavery. and education

But i considered them inferiors like many XVIII illustration philosopher.

@MaraJade well I don’t share your views on Breden but most definetely on the MC’s father (the asshole) he is certainly a very large suspect and thorn in my side. However he would be killed very quickly after giving you up by the Theurgy, so he would have to be very stupid (of course we already know that he is so…).

@Headhunter180 all good points. One thing I didn’t like about he game was, later on when you are discussing the traitor with Zvad, you have the choice to: mention Breden, mention Breden AND Radmar, or mention nobody; however you cannot simply mention Radmar

  • Radmar Millstone, physically powerful and short-tempered helot
  • Elery Skinner, brilliant helot strategist
  • Zvad of Whendward, outlaw and ex-mercenary
  • Kalt Swineherd, passionate and vengeful helot

Though most helots still don’t trust you, your popularity and credibility as a leader are slowly growing.

You are unpopular with your fellow aristocrats - those who have heard of your little rebellion, anyway.

In public, all Ecclesiasts revile you as a rebel and servant of Xaos. However, you are known to be personally devout, which wins you a small degree of credibility with the priesthood.

The few merchants who have heard of your rebellion regard you as a bandit and hope the authorities take care of you quickly.

@Marajade you don’t need to romance Breden. Choose Breden to be female, then you’ll meet either Simon or Kalt. (Probably Kalt knowing your preferences.) You might prefer them. Kalt’s rather bloodthirsty and murderous, although again I think they’re skinny. Simon’s extremely honorable.

@Alekce by sun-parched, I think Havenstone meant that he’s thirsty for the sun- as in he’s extremely pale.

I love this world and how expansive it is!

Wait, by choosing to be attracted to a same sex Breden upon first meeting the character, you are also opening yourself up to an opposite sex romances with Simon and Kalt which otherwise wouldn’t be available??? That is…bizarre. 8-}

@Amara Sun-parched means parched of moisture (by the sun), so dry, tanned skin.

@P_Tigras You don’t need to do anything with Breden. You can have Breden as a friend, or not even that, and reject any advances they make. I think the initial text does say you’re attracted to them, though? You can play it like you’re just attracted to all these wild and dangerous ideas of rebellion though. (Or not even that.)

Kalt/Kala and Simon/Suzanne’s gender is the opposite of Breden’s. They’ll have a crush on you. So while there are gender flips in there it’s not the expected everyone is what you’re attracted to. That’s good if you’re bi.

I WANT a noble lol no a helot. I understand many of you are American, but aristocracy blue blood until few years ago. Don’t go for the world marry romance first sun burned peasant she found in the forest . The men could have bastards who never be really nobles. To be a noble baby you need another noble.
It’s not that now i hate commoners Im a commoner my self. But if i rp a noble who want to be noble and don’t considered a whore for all nobility, I couldn’t go kissing all peasants i know in forest or anywhere. When the rebellion has nobles i already have some interested in the wonderful stat system. I WANT one to have little nobles, don’t have to be a romance, maybe only political necessity. But a pretty educate noble with decorum and art with political…that men i could kiss him forest or not but not in first 5 minutes i need a good dinner first Im not so easy =))
Edit fairy so i could be bisex the text is very clear or boys or girls lol. I need a baby in a future game lol. Also yeah game in the horrible forest scene describe like Tomas in Choice of Romances You has totally attracted to the ugly helot you Has To i mean there all is like Tomas mind control. Thank goddess you could don’t kiss him if not i will yelling for centuries lol

@Marajade Well you could be playing as a Helot.

Choose for Breden to be female. That then means that if you’re good enough you’ll meet Simon, not Suzanne. Simon is a noble, a blademaster, he only wants to join a just cause, and he has a crush on you. If you choose the bad options, and are more destructive Kalt will join instead.

You don’t need to kiss any peasants though. The game doesn’t force you to. You can remain chaste. Even if you’re in a relationship with Breden you can choose to remain chaste.

Also, try kissing Breden that first opportunity you get. Breden’s reaction may surprise you. It’s really believeable for if you try to kiss a stranger you’ve just met where there’s a large power difference between the two of you. It also makes romancing Breden in the future a little different.

I never got the impression that Breden was like Tomas. But then I was happy enough to go along for the ride, understanding that the main character wasn’t me, that they react different from me. Still if there’s enough people who have problems with it then there’s definitely a problem there.

@FairyGodfeather of course i could play like a helot i only choose don’t want to. I prefer rp educated charming politicians its not credible that i was educated and refined being almost a slave. Im trying to follow a coherent storyline like a rp. And about Breden he seem ugly for me so i prefer don’t kiss him never in life also i hate all his Im perfect and then transform in a coward rat, and probably a traitor. So i kill him so happy to don’t see him again.

A noble romance could be interesting for commoner to the different of castes in love maybe he she has To marry another noble for politics,

@MaraJade, I’m enjoying your feedback, it’s very helpful. But to get the power dynamics in your first encounter with Breden back on the right foot, let me just reveal that there’s no such thing as mind control Theurgy. So this isn’t in any way a Tomas situation. Breden has every reason to be wary of you, not vice versa, which becomes explicit if you do try to kiss Breden.

Here’s what I was trying to get across with the flashback passage:

  1. Breden is of the/a sex you find attractive.
  2. S/he’s the first person you’ve ever heard openly denouncing the Way Things Are, which is intoxicating.
  3. However, it’s your choice – the reader’s – whether you wanted to take that in the direction of romantic attraction or just (initially) a need to keep talking. Once the rebellion is underway, you don’t “need” Breden at all and can either be a lover, friend, boss, or enemy.

@P_Tigras, whatever sex Breden is, Kalt/Simon will be the opposite sex and have a crush on you. There’s no “otherwise.” Personally, I prefer games that establish attraction/orientation this way to ones that flat out ask “do you like boys, girls, or both?”

@Havenstone my father has friends who where in jail for political stuff in Franco regime. The first they tell you its they never trust someone to eager to tell how bad thinks in regime are that’s the spies 99’9% time. But ok i take it like my girl is complete drunken to give her self to first low man she saw in forest . More when he knows who i am.

Maybe my main issue is he represent no only physically, all i hate and considered ugly
1-Physically unpleasant.
2-Much noise about nothing. He is to proud of himself , Shut up! you still being a ragged beggar so don’t oversell yourself. Like how you this and that.
3. A miserable coward his response about why he don’t do anything? i was scared. No shit?!
I lost all my privileges but he is scared !! no Im perfectly ok. Thanks for asking . He almost admit that he sing like a chicken lol . Now when i don’t trust him he menaces me and my dad like a bully. Die horrible person!!

But i like his kiss answer is well done and accurate. But i never want touch him again aggg…

Put a pretty noble please, Im begging you. or just a noble for babies.

i found a error line 684: invalid gosub no return has being placed

@Havenstone I understand your reluctance to ask the reader straight out their sexual orientation, but the wording of the text upon your initial introduction makes it pretty clear that the protagonist feels an immediate pang of attraction to Bredon. The reader has no choice over whether or not they’re attracted to Bredon. If the reader is not bisexual, and regardless of whether the reader is gay or straight, it would thus be discomfiting to select the sex to which the reader is not attracted for Bredon. Not everyone is bisexual or pansexual.

Furthermore, unless they read these forums or read through your code, most people playing this game will never even think of making Bredon the sex to which they are not attracted, and thus they’ll lose out on the Simon/Suzane and Kalt/Kalla romances unless they happen to be bisexual.

Heck, I’m seriously tempted to do something that I never do, edit your beta code to give me the control I desire over my character’s sexuality while still enabling a potential romance with Suzane, ie. make Suzane the same sex as Bredon.

I have to chime in agreement with @P_Tigras et al. I definitely prefer not being explicitly asked my orientation and basically the story played out to my preferences, but it just in addition to the objections raised, I think it’s generally a mistake (albeit an often made one) to dictate to the player who they’re attracted to.

And then, later on you do end up basically asking the player (are you bisexual y/n), anyway. I understand every choice you ask of the player slows things down, but I think a preferable logic/order for choices would be:

(Brenden shows up)

  1. Are you feeling sexual attraction or just political sympathy?
  2. What gender is Brenden anyway?
(second character automatically opposite gender of Brenden)
  3. Are you attracted to him/her?

Or alternatively, you could let the player set both characters’ genders, but I can think of valid reasons you may not want to do that, and I think the previous should eliminate most objections.

And then my personal preference would be to leave the question of whether you’re generally attracted to men/women out of it as essentially irrelevant.

@P_Tigras i totally agree i choose him boy because text clearly sex you are sexuality attract to a boy b a girl . So there is no a answer about my sex option? then what is it only a minor aesthetic change about Breden ?

Im just too stupid to understand how character development is in this game. @Havenstone could you clarify the start of rebellion. First i though you was trying to mind raped my girl then i discover than choose Breden sex to be attracted don’t have to be with sex and you are what? bi hetero?? most confusing prologue ever lol
