Choice of Games and Hosted Games Recommendations -- Consolidated Thread

Brimstone Manor and Social Services of the Doomed have demon ROs, although they’re not particularly evil. The Soul Stone War and A Crown of Sorcery and Steel have wonderful villain antagonists you can romance. I haven’t played Samurai of Hyuga, but I understand that it does too. If It Please the Court allows you to romance an enemy spy. There’s Darcy in Professor of Magical Studies, though he’s more an asshole than actually evil.

Any free games? I don’t care if it’s one of those games where you have to wait in between chapters.

I haven’t updated this list in a while (anyone else is welcome to do so though!) So there are a few more free ones about like Zoopocalypse which was released more recently.

You can also do a choicescript search on itch.io which will bring up some extra games, most of which are free over there.

There are a few more unpublished ones on dashingdons and IFComp but require a bit more searching to find.

This thread is also worth checking out (not all are choicescript, but the ones that aren’t are similarish like twine or ink.) Twine & Other Text-based Interactive Fiction games recommendations from Itch.io

Can someone recommend me any WIP that’s been consistently updating at least once every one or two months? I totally get why it takes longer for WIPs to get updated I just want a more consistent reading experience if possible.

Is the hosted game cat any fun or little brain big jars? They seem fun but I’d like to know from someone who’s bought them.

Cat?

Choice of the cat? is that not a choice of game?

Yes. Not a Hosted Game.

Ok so are they any fun lol?

Choice of the cat is fun. A lot of the choices involve being nice vs mean to your family, and I don’t have it in me to be that mean, but it was still fun as a funny fluffy little story. Best for cat lovers.

I’m curious what recs yall have for romance, preferably complete but WIPs are great oo (gotta support other writers!)

I have really enjoyed Fallen Hero, I the Forgotten One, Mind Blind, Vendetta, and Bureau among others. Honestly though I’d just like a few romance options that feel very memorable. Hard to distinguish why the ROs from these series are so memorable when a lot of others tend to just… blend together… but these come to mind for me first. (I swear the superhero theme is coincidence, I just think these all are well written :skull: ) I really enjoyed Creme de la Creme and Royal Affairs too but I think when there is too many ROs it can really overwhelm my pea sized brain.

Response to @zhirzzh :
Ahhh! Thanks for the recommendations! I do think I read Tally Ho and Jolly Good, I don’t think I ended up finishing the later though. I think I’ll revisit soon… Evertree I bought on release and haven’t finished either to my recollection… I tend to have a bias for masc or nonbinary ROs, though I can be interested in women ROs if they are well written enough (Argent step on me please).

Other than the ones youve mentioned:

The ROs in Tally Ho and Jolly Good Cakes and Ale are really solid and distinct. They each have fun little side plots that give them character development and stop them from blending together even though there is a decent number of them.

Evertree Inn only has two ROs, who are very different and are well developed. There is some RO creep through the series, which might get to be too much for you, but they all stand out as characters.

If you like either of the ROs in Pon Para, it is really good, because you spend a ton of time developing your relationship with them (whether romantic or platonic) so they feel like very real characters. There are only 2 though, and unlike Evertree they are gender locked, so if you prefer one gender and don’t like that one, you are out of luck. I was very invested in the female RO, but found the male one extremely annoying. Like Evertree there is some RO creep in future games, although this isn’t super developed in the second game.

Passenger has a fun group of extremly different ROs, including a single mom, a space alien, and a cult leader, and they are all pretty well developed and fun.

I remember enjoying Choice of the Cat quite a bit. Its been a while and I might have been enjoying it so much because I role-played as Clawed while he slept on my lap. Don’t remember many details but he definitely messed with those poor humans

In recent years, I’ve become a fan of political intrigue in video games. I really enjoy when there’s the option to build a power base, as well as use your assets to influence the events of the story. My questions are this: which CoG games (Hosted Games & Heart’s Choice included) do you believe have done this the best? Why? If you don’t think highly about how games have handled this aspect or otherwise have better ideas on how it should be done, explain. I’d love to hear your responses.

Affairs of the Court
Choice of the Vampire
The Day After Ever After
Faerie’s Bargain
If It Please the Court
Parliament of Knives
Royal Affairs
Their Majesties’ Pleasure
The Vampire Regent

2 posts were merged into an existing topic: Hey, what’s that game? – A thread for identifying ChoiceScript games

Ive pretty much read quite a bit of both Hosted and Choice of Games, games…but I do love rereading stuff. Any suggestions?

You do love rereading, or you don’t?

Either way, what are some of the games you’ve enjoyed most so far, and what did you enjoy about them? Are there particular themes or genres you especially enjoy (or avoid)?

I do love reading. Sorry if it came off otherwise. I love stories that involve drama or intrigue like Agent 180, Relics, and Cliffhanger, stories where you’re not human like the Vampire Masquerade ones, and super power ones like Wayhaven Chronicles and Hero Project.

Basically anything other than real life. I’m already living it. Zombie ones are good too. These stories just make me feel involved. I like that feeling. I like it when I feel I am the MC. I’m into RPGs like the Final Fantasy games.

I hate real life which is why I’m glad I found Choice of/Hosted Games. I simply just read practically all of it and am looking for more stuff like this. It’s just that I read all of it. I think I’m addicted ; )

Thank you for replying to me.
