So, to start off the discussion, characters are obviously mixed and varied, specifically written in their own way to give them a unique sense. In a lot of writing and media however, there is a clearly distinct trait that each tends to fall back on (be it due to their personality, background, training, etc), and of these, I’d like to ask: Which ones do you see a lot? Which ones do you believe are typically portrayed well - and which ones not? Any specific characters come to mind when you think of these archetypes? Are there any you’d like to see more of?
I personally find the use of these archetypes (sometimes) enjoyable, as it gives me a clear distinction of just who they are on a basic level without providing too much detail, so I know who I’m dealing with a little bit before attempting to understand them more, but that’s just me! What are your thoughts?
