Blood For Poppies (Public Beta Test Now Live! Game Complete! 10/9/20)

@Lyanna

Ah. I see. Do you remember if that’s in chapter 3 or chapter 4? Do you mind being a little more specific so I know which scene to go look at? Thank you!!!

@GloriaRose

Thank you! I’m glad you like Kel. Since there are only three love interests I worry about people liking them. Although, adding more love interests wouldn’t work with the plot since that’d be too many characters in a story that’s supposed to feel claustrophobic.

It happens in chapter 3 when you tell Ashton or Kel you like them. It’s the reason I can’t start a romance with Ashton I think.

All right. I figured out the problem that’s causing that scene to trigger when it shouldn’t. I just got some variables switched around. durrrrr It should work now, but it if doesn’t feel free to let me know.

It may have caused you to be able to not romance Ashton, but it’s also possible you’re trying to romance Ashton with a female character. He’s gay. I think I need to go back and be clearer about his preference, as a few other people have made the mistake.

I knew he was gay. That bug was the only problem, but it’s fixed now ^^

Excellent. Thank you for bringing the bug to my attention!

@LacetheDisgrace I still seem to be experiencing the same bug as Lyanna in chapter 3, no matter how many times I replay that scene, but other than that I really enjoy your game so far. :blush:

Thank you for letting me know! I’m going to have to sit down with this thing and see what’s up. I’ll have it fixed soon.

Ashton’s picture doesn’t show (Kel’s does though)

Wow. I love it! We are all caged in a way and we struggle to get out everyday and this game explores that in a whole new level! I love the illustrations of the characters too. I didn’t interact much with anyone else besides Carmelle (who I love! So fun trying to win the heart of the heartless girl). I certainly hope to see more of this. Great job!

Thank you very much. Your support warms my heart. :slight_smile: I’m glad you enjoyed this! Carmelle is someone you either love or hate, haha, but I’m happy you like her.

I know I sound like a broken record here, but I’m slowly making progress. It’s not abandoned, just on hold while I deal with other and more pressing deadlines. I’m hoping that this summer, I’ll get a break to really sit down and get a bunch of it done. The goal is to finish and release this ASAP while still maintaining its quality (of course).

I’m aware that there are some bugs that you guys have been so kind to point out, and I assure you, I’m squishin’ 'em.

UPDATE 4/3/16

http://dashingdon.com/play/LaceTheDisgrace/blood-for-poppies/mygame/

So, the biggest change is that I added a mechanism that allows you to skip the first two chapters of the game and go directly to chapter 3. Initially, it was meant to make testing an easier process for me, but then I realized that players may appreciate it. You can use the mechanism to set necessary variables and all that.

Some notes for those playing chapter 3 and 4:

  1. If the MC “accepts their fate” (specifically “accepts their fate” about their demise) then the game ends, as I haven’t written this part of the game just yet. You’ll find way wayyy more content by attempting to fight your looming demise, especially if you decide to do so through cloning.

  2. In order to open up the special conversation with Doctor at the end of chapter 3, you need to have a loyalty of 5 to the Doctor. I did manage to get a loyalty of 5 with Doctor. However, some people have found it difficult to get this level of loyalty. I’m looking into it presently, and it’ll be easier in the future. For now, the MC should be very deferential, forgiving and “kiss ass” to Doctor to accrue loyalty.

  3. Romances are now fixed! Before, there was a pesky bug where Ashton and Kel would react to the MC as if they kept Carmelle’s corpse around, which precluded romance with them. It seemed to work properly when I ran through it.

As always, report bugs and enjoy! There’s way more stuff I need to add and tweak (including adding a pic of Doctor), but this is it for now.

I’ve been following this WIP since it was first opened and is still one of my favorite WIP’s. :sob: (Also, it got me into the song by Garbage)

Also, I found something along the way. If you skip ahead and begin the romance with Kel and finish asking him what the others will think, the action to “ask about the others” won’t disappear.

The update is great, by the way!

@TruMaknae Awwwww thank you! Oh right, that’s a pretty easy fix. That I turned at least one person onto the work of one of my favorite bands is probably the best thing I’ve heard all day, haha. The song is actually about war and the specific symbolism poppies possess in Europe, but the phrase “blood for poppies” evokes such a nice, moody image for me that I had to use it as a title.

@allhumansreadingthis I’ve had some other bugs, (particularly in the last section dealing with cloning and cloning activities reported to my by a wonderfully helpful individual that I’ll sort out. When those bugs are fixed I’ll post again so everyone knows.

If I’m being honest, I got an Arthur Arden vibe from him. So, naturally, that’s what I imagine he’d look like. Here you go: http://my.xfinity.com/blogs/tv/files/2013/01/AHS_EP207-DarkCousin-Scn9_0089.jpg /

It’s an apt comparison, although unintentional on my part. Arden was one of my favorite things about that season of AHS. I’ve always found flawed mad scientists interesting. I support that image of him.

So, I’ve been so obssesed, I’ve made fanfiction for it. It’s something I’ll never post of course but I felt like I should tell you of my obssesion with this.

Omigoodnesss! Yay! You made my day with this. As someone who has always loved fanfiction, it means a lot to me that I’ve inspired some. Feel free to send it to me so I can fangirl over it without sharing it with the world, but also feel free to keep it to yourself if that’s more comfortable. But, thanks for letting me know.

Don’t get me wrong I love this game. But you should rename it “the protagonist gets dicked arouND until they die”. Still big fan!

@undead Nah. You aren’t wrong at all lol! It’s an oppressive, hopeless situation. In the parts I’m working on now the MC has more agency and is able to turn the situation around, but they need resources and allies first. Hopefully it’ll be satisfying for players to finally be able to work toward something (escape, revenge, etc.)
