April 2026 Writer support thread

I got a lot of writing done tonight, and I think I can finish Chapter 4 before the end of the month after all, provided I have time tomorrow. Testing will probably take me an extra week or so before it goes live, but I’m happy with my progress, and I should have more time in May (at least until the end of the month). This is a really fun and exciting part to write, and I hope it will be to play as well. It’s beginning to look a lot like fishmen…:

End of month update:

:white_check_mark:

I did have a mini panic when doing this as originally I was going to put it up on COGdemos, but my rather liberal use of gosub_scene meant there was way too much network traffic, so had to figure out how to go through the compiling route. This thread saved my sanity!

Only have a couple more hours of April left in my part of the world!

April has been a whirlwind. I’ve had two different week-long trips away from home, and just started a new contract gig that I’m very excited about (almost finished my first week, and enjoying myself a lot so far). I’m tired but invigorated at the same time. All of this has meant I’ve not done a lot of secret project writing, nor have I been as active online (that’s possibly a positive-ish thing) but I’m squeaking one more workday in today and will hopefully make a bit of progress. Every little helps.

…sometimes I wonder if the reason I’m writing space opera is simply that I like drawing uniforms so much that most of my cyberpunk illustrations end up looking more like dieselpunk instead.

@LeannaMandragoran are you taking the support thread for May? If yes, great. If not, let us know so that someone can volunteer to take over.

Sometimes I wonder if it would be a good idea to turn off the intellisense in VSCode…

But then again… maybe I could work with it

Alright, so I didn’t reach my goal. 11,798 words total, didn’t introduce the character I wanted to.

I am however considering the month a success - I’ve had to start a massive amount of life admin, and that’s basically taken over my free time. I was doing pretty good up until then, so yeah… That’s a win. Can’t control what you can’t control.

A chart!

If there are no objections, and if nobody attempts to create the May thread within the next two hours, I’ll create it. If anyone wants to create the thread, feel free to raise your hand.

I did this! I just posted it like two minutes ago, but it’s still April for me, so I met the goal!

(Edit: I feel I should clarify that the excaimation points are becuase it’s the first month in a while I actually met my monthly goal.)

Alas, I only wrote about 13k, but I also basically took a week off to do edits and plan out what I wanted to do with part B. So my wordcounts that week were low. All in all, I’m pleased.

Two out of two. I’m satisfied with my progress. See you all in May :waving_hand:
